    I RAN INTO SUPERMAN !:An Anecdote“WHAT IS LOVE? “The more we come out and do good to others,the more our hearts will be purified,and GOD will be in them”,mentioned Swami Vivekananda about LOVE.

    Everybody would’ve had at least one childhood-hero who was so lovable.As for me,I could think of none but Superman.As a child I’d always been spellbound by The Man of Steel.He was super-strong,could fly at superluminal speeds,had a captivating charm,a swell suit,a pretty girlfriend and whatnot.Gosh,I thought he was so cool!He was my ultimate hero.He was all that I could ever aspire to be. Anyways,that never came about. Now that I make out all this in retrospect,I find that may-be it was the sense of value,pride and accomplishment in that wide-eyed-me,that required me to be Superman.But,very recently,I had this life-changing experience that forever altered my simulacrum of Superman,my attitude on the world and my perception of Love.The event goes like this:On my way back I witnessed something,that I consider,till this day,to be nothing short of a ‘vir-tual miracle’.I saw an old man by

    the same sidewalk,who was by his looks,not so sumptuous himself.He was earnestly passing on a food-packet to this aforesaid beggar!He had an altruistic smile,thanks to the relish he had seen on the poor vagrant’s face!I could gaze at this selfless,magnanimous deed-of-love only for a short-lived instant,as my dad drove over the bridge.I genuine-ly wished I had been this bighearted and empathetic,with a true sense of purpose.Back home,I reckoned with this experience over and over,for a hundred times.This gentleman had broken my spell of expedience,that had till then rendered me fouled-up.But two things became abun-dantly clear:”Plain LOVE can do Marvels”and,”LOVE,like GOD,is om-nipotent and omnipresent”.I had realized my childhood dream:”I fi-nally met Superman”,only that,this time the very definition of the watchword ‘SUPERMAN’ had itself changed.I hereby commemorate those im-mortal words of Mother Teresa”Not

    Developers say they are less than a year away from deploying prototype satellites that could someday soon broadcast free and universal inter-net all over the globe from high in orbit.The “Outernet” proj-ect being bankrolled by the Media Devel-opment Investment Fund (MDIF) of New York is currently in the midst of conduct-ing technical assess-ment of the project, but say by June they hope to develop test satellite in order to see how long-range WiFi would work if beamed down by a tiny 10x10x10-centi-meter payload called a CubeSat. If all goes as planned, a test CubeSat will be sent into orbit next January, and within a few years there could be hundreds of simi-lar devices circling the Earth and send-ing back down in-ternet signals. Once that is accomplished, countries that largely censor the web — like China and North Korea — would be hard-pressed to re-

    strict internet access without also going into orbit. “We exist to support the flow of independent news, information, and debate that people need to build free, thriving societies,” MDIF President Peter Whitehead told the National

    Journal recently. “It enables fuller participation in pub-lic life, holds the powerful to account and protects the rights of the individual.” To accomplish as much, though, MDIF is facing a rather uphill battle, at least with regards to funding. Funny enough, sending hundreds of tiny WiFi ready satellites into orbit isn’t as inexpensive as one might imagine. Syed Karim, MDIF’s director of innovation, told the Na-tional Journal’s Alex Brown that it would take only three years and $12 billion to get the project up and running. But “We don’t have $12 bil-lion,” Karim said, “so we’ll do as much as we can with CubeSats and broadcast data.” “Broadcasting data,” Outer-net says on their website, “al-lows citizens to reduce their reliance on costly internet

    The World’s Greatest Challenge TodayToday the threat of terrorism is be-coming more and more serious. Ter-rorism is considered the greatest threat against the safety of the world, and especially the USA, today. The ex-tent of the terrorism has increased sig-nificantly over the last couple of years, since the terrorist attacks against the US on the 11th of September 2001. After these attacks former president of the US, George Bush declared a war against terrorism. There are various opinions about what can be defined as terrorism. Be-cause there are so many situations that can be defined as terrorism, it is be very difficult to find an exact defi-nition. Many countries have different definitions, and the definitions have also changed over the years. Not even the UN has managed to agree about one common definition. In short we can say that terrorism is some sort of attack at civilians to achieve a political goal. Terrorism has existed for many cen-turies, but in the last couple of years the attacks have become more exten-sive and the devastations has become greater. In the future scientists expect that the terrorists will carry out ac-tions with weapons of mass destruc-tion such as chemical, radiological and biological weapons. The war on terrorism is a global cam-paign led by the USA.

    Around the globe there are various terrorist organizations, all with differ-ent goals and reasons for their terror-ist-activities. The most known group today might be the Al – Qaida which origins form Afghanistan,

    When your pen drive gets attacked by a worm (VIRUS), processing of folders is highly affected. This means that the folder becomes hidden and the hidden option is disabled from “Properties” .i.e. you cannot make it visible again. Now the entire folder in your pen drive is converted into shortcut.

    A solution to this is, just open any window go to Tools->Folder Options/Organize->Folder Options ->View tab -> Show hid-den files ->Disable “Hide protected system files”-> Apply ok.

    Now go to your pen drive all the folders are visible now but still you cannot disable hidden attributes. To check it, right click->properties.

    So got to Run (Win+R) ->Type “cmd”(eg.E: ). Now type at first as “attrib –s -h “. Now all the files in pen drive is visible by removing all attributes. Then process the command for individual folders byAttrib –s –h

    Wireless-Vision (Wi-Vi)If Google Glass isn’t enough to get you worried about technology, how about a device that can see through walls using Wi-Fi?Researchers at MIT are experimenting with a system called Wi-Vi, which they say can track moving objects through walls by using the inexpensive, nearly ubiquitous wireless system. Wi-Vi could be built into a smartphone or a special handheld device and used in search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement, according to Dina Katabi, the MIT professor who developed Wi-Vi along with graduate student Fadel Adib.She thinks consumers might use Wi-Vi in many emergency cases too. For example, someone walking outdoors at night who thought they were being followed might use it to detect a person behind a fence or around a corner.One of the major difficulty in this technology is that, the display has very low resolution today, more like a radar tracking an airplane than an X-ray show-ing details.Katabi and Adib are working on higher resolution and the system might someday show recognizable faces. Before then, society might want to de-velop policies around how it could be used.

    “Like all technologies in the world, it depends on us how we use them,” She said.

    Wi-Vi works by sending Wi-Fi radio waves through a barrier and measur-ing the way they bounce back. It’s similar to the way radar and sonar work, but without the expensive, bulky gear and restricted frequencies that radar requires.Every time a Wi-Fi signal is reflected off an object, the shape and makeup of that object affects the signal that comes back. But when Wi-Fi hits a wall, most of the signal gets reflected off the wall and only a little bit of it reflects off the people on the other side.To get around this, Wi-Vi transmits two Wi-Fi signals, one of which is the inverse of the other. When one signal hits a stationary object, the other can-cels it out. But because of the way the signals are encoded, they don’t can-cel each other out for moving objects. That makes the reflections from a moving person visible despite the wall between that person and the Wi-Vi device. Wi-Vi can translate those faint reflections into a real-time display of the person’s movements.

    The key benefits of Wi-Vi over current ways of seeing through walls, such as radar and sonar, are cost, power and size. At the heart of the technology is its encoding scheme, which can be im-plemented in silicon. Wi-Vi could be built into a cellphone soon, and for not much more than the cost of a regular Wi-Fi module, she said.

    “All the components we use are ones typically used in a Wi-Fi handheld device”.

    Because of its underlying technology, Wi-Vi also wouldn’t repre-sent a big drain on batteries.Bringing wall-penetrating vision to handheld devices could open up a lot more uses for it. Current radar-based systems used in the U.S. military are so big they need to be transported on trucks.Wi-Vi’s capabilities might also help searchers find people trapped in collapsed buildings after earthquakes. Police could use it to de-tect the number of people in a room and their movements, pre-venting an ambush when they raided the room. Used with a gam-ing console, it could allow players to walk away from the console into another room and keep playing the game.Because of its low resolution, Wi-Vi could actually enhance peo-ple’s privacy rather than violating it. Thus this technology may attain a huge success in near future.

    HIDDEN SECRETS OF PYRAMID

    T he Giza Pyramids, built to endure an eternity, have done just that. The monumental tombs are relics of Egypt’s Old Kingdom era and were constructed some 4,500 years ago.

    Egypt’s pharaohs expected to become gods in the afterlife. To prepare for the next world they erected temples to the gods and massive pyramid tombs for themselves—filled with all the things each ruler would need to guide and sustain himself in the next world.

    Pharaoh Khufu began the first Giza pyramid project, circa 2550 B.C. His Great Pyramid is the largest in Giza and towers some 481

    feet (147 meters) above the pla- teau. Its estimated 2.3 million stone blocks each weigh an average of 2.5 to 15 tons. Khufu’s son, Pharaoh Khafre, built the second pyra- mid at Giza, circa 2520 B.C. His necrop-olis also included the Sphinx, a mysterious limestone monument with the body of a lion and a pharaoh’s head. The Sphinx may stand sentinel for the pharaoh’s en- tire tomb complex.

    The third of the Giza Pyramids is considerably smaller than the first two. Built by Pharaoh Menkaure circa 2490 B.C., it featured a much more complex mortuary temple.

    Each mas- sive pyramid is but one part of a larger complex, including a palace, temples, solar boat pits, and other features.

    Building Boom The ancient engineering feats at Giza were so im-pressive that even today scientists can’t be sure

    how the pyramids were built. Yet they have learned much about the people who built them and the political power necessary to make it happen.The builders were skilled, well-fed Egyptian workers who lived in a nearby temporary city. Archaeological digs on the fascinating site have revealed a highly organized community, rich with resources, that must have been backed by strong central authority.It’s likely that communities across Egypt contributed workers, as well as food and other essentials, for what became in some ways a national project to display the wealth and control of the ancient pharaohs.

    Such revelations have led Zahi Hawass, secretary general of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities and a National Geographic explorer-in-residence, to note that in one sense it was the Pyramids that built Egypt—rather than the other way around.

    Google unveils plans to pro-duce a new device called smart contact lens. The company’s Google X lab just teased a smart contact lens on its blog that is meant to help diabetics measure their glucose levels.The company says it is currently testing prototypes of this con-tact lens that use a tiny wire-less chip and a miniaturized glucose sensor. These chips are embedded in between two soft layers of lens material.In its announcement, Google notes that scientists have long looked into how certain body fluids can help them track glu-cose levels. Tears, it turns out, works very well, but given that most people aren’t Hollywood actors and can cry on demand, using tears was never really an

    option.According to Google, the sensor can take about one reading per second, and it is working on adding tiny LED lights to the lens to warn users when their glucose levels cross certain thresholds. The sensors are so small that they”look like bits of glitter.”

    Google says it is working with the FDA to turn these prototypes into real products and that it is working with experts to bring this technology to market. These partners, the company says, “will use our technology for a smart contact lens and develop apps that would make the measurements available to the wearer and their doc-tor.”It’s worth noting that other compa-nies, including Microsoft, have previ-ously shown similar lenses. Until now, though, it doesn’t look like there are any smart lenses available in the U.S. yet. Given Google’s reach, however, it may just be able to find the right partners to bring this technology to market.
