Summer Term 2018 Small Groups
Whether you’re new to Bristol Vineyard or have been part of the
church for a while, small groups are a great way to connect with the
community and feel ‘part of the family’.
We try to offer a selection of small groups that cover a range of
themes, such as bible study, activity, outreach, training/equipping or
geographically based groups and each small group will incorporate
the following in some way:
• Accessibility/inclusivity – allowing newcomers and those unfa-
miliar with church to integrate quickly and easily
• Creating community – this could be the church community as a
whole, localised church communities or local, non-church com-
munities.
• Discipleship – which we understand to mean: intimacy with God,
growing in Christlikeness, loving people within the church and
loving people outside of the church.
This brochure gives details of all the groups starting in January 2018
and you can reserve a place right now! Decide which group you
would like to join and then either sign up at church or contact Karin
in the church office (details opposite) to book your place. It’s first-
come, first-served.
Thank you once again to everyone who has volunteered to lead a
group. The system only works because of the time and energy you
give.
Adam
How it works:
• We meet in groups for twelve weeks at a time, and our twelve-
week groups run three times a year.
• Sign up from Sunday 25th March onwards – either at church or
by contacting Karin at the church office on 0117 373 1414 or
email [email protected]
• Sign up closes on Sunday 22nd April 2018
• Each group has a capacity limit so make sure you let us know
early which group you would like to join
• We will try to let you know as soon as we can if there is a place
for you in a group. This will give you time to select a different
group if your choice is already full.
• Some groups will run each term and the existing members of
that group will be given priority when choosing to re-book for
the subsequent term.
• Your group leader will confirm a start date for the group but
groups are due to begin w/c Monday 23rd April 2018 and end
w/c Monday 9th July 2018

There are moments in our lives when we cry out inwardly, “I don’t care what anyone else
says; there has to be more to the Christian life than this!”
If that sentiment strikes a chord, this small group may be for you. We’ll be using Ruth Haley
-Barton’s book, ‘Sacred Rhythms’ to consider this question, to get in touch with our God
given desires and longings and to explore practices which will enable us to deepen our
spiritual journey.
Each week we will discuss a chapter of the book and then try out some of the suggested
practices. We will of course eat lots of cake as well!
You will need a copy of the book which we can order for you or you can buy yourself.

Name of Group: Running Club Summer All Age Group Leader: Ralph, Rachel, Taya & Erin Davis Who is it for?: For adults and children who have a current interest in running, who can comfortably run at pace 6k without stopping (“or moaning” – especially the adults) and would like to maintain but increase this distance over the summer months. You will need running shoes and defi-nitely a sense of adventure. Day of week and time: Thursdays 7.00pm Venue: 9 Court Road to start with, then various locations Capacity: No limit Weekly contact: WhatsApp
To encourage each other in the pursuit of maintaining 'fitness' whilst extending our own personal distance goals. Exploring different routes both locally as well as some country runs starting from different points. Yes, we pray, a good chance to have a breather and focus on our amazing God.
‘That's the thing about running: your greatest runs are rarely measured by racing success. They are moments in time where running allows you to see how wonderful your life is and who you are in God…’
Come and join us.

Name of Group: Discovering our Jewish roots
Group Leader: Ian & Claire Nelson; Sue Howard & Martin
Stanistreet
Who is it for?: Anyone
Day of week and time: Wednesdays fortnightly 8pm Venue: Redland Capacity: 10
We have Abraham as our father (Romans 4:16) and Jesus as our Lord. We have been grafted into the Jewish tree, but how well do we understand the tree and our roots? In this home group, we will explore questions such as: What does the Sabbath mean for us? What are the feasts all about? What was the Jewish context of Jesus’ ministry on earth? The evenings will include worship, prayer, teaching and discussion, and a ministry time, all in a relaxed atmosphere. We would love you to join us in this exciting exploration of ancient, contemporary and future contexts of God’s plan for His people as given in the Bible.

Group Leader: Rebecca Kishtainy
Who is it for?: Anyone
Day of week and time: Mondays Venue: Totterdown Capacity: 8ish
Do you find it difficult to read the Old Testament? Do you find it diffi-cult to reconcile Old Testament events and language with the New Testament? Would you like to join a book club style group reading ‘The Epic of Eden’ to-gether? This book by Sandra Richter is described as, ‘a closet decluttering exercise to give hangers for facts, with timelines to put them on and fills out your wardrobe with knowledge and exciting new perspectives’. It’s available on Kindle and I also have a spare copy. There are 9 chapters so we can meet weekly with a couple of breaks any weekday even-ing other than Tuesdays from 8pm. Happy to see what works best for others.
