Small Allegany County Community Newsletter Allen Outlook FEBRUARY2015 Picture taken of an open field on the Middle Road Tired of Winter? It is so easy to complain about the cold. It is the topic of every conversation. Plowing and shoveling; some days it seems like an endless task. We are eager to hear the weather reports, hoping for a well deserved break. Our “January Thaw” had come and gone in less than 24 hours. With the thermometer having difficulty earning double digits (above, not below) I’d like to mention a few positive things. Back in the day, before I was born, my parents have pictures of snow banks as high as the telephone and electric wires. So, when we get a foot of snow; do we really have the right to complain? Mom and Dad were snowed in for the better part of a week on numerous occasions, with small children and a working farm. Now, that’s a struggle! With many thanks to good neighbors, everyone weathered the rough times. Take the time to appreciate the beautiful sights around the countryside. Everything looks white washed clean, birds are eating from the feeders, deer and turkeys are foraging in the roadways. The sunsets are beautiful. The snow sparkles like diamonds in the moonlight. A time for baking and comfort foods with family gatherings in a warm and toasty home. Having said all that, if you still don’t feel inspired… Spring is only six weeks away.

Tired of Winter?
