1. Analysis of the Sediment

Samples of the sludge will be extracted from the sediment of the waterway for laboratory analysis and tested for content of contaminated particles. Material that passes lab analysis can be spread on a field as a substitute fertilizer. If analysis determines that contamination levels are too high the material must be transported to an approved dumpsite for disposal. The disposal site must be determined according to current local laws and regulations. Our ability to separate the water, leaving only filter cakes, makes transportation of the material possible and easy.

Aquarius Water Management AG offers a unique mobile and complete sludge processing plant, the

2. Survey of the Bathymetry

As a general rule the volume of the sludge to be removed has been determined by the customer. The bathymetry will be established using suitable measuring instruments, specific to the location, to confirm the volume of the sludge which was dredged. Bathymetry results will be computer analyzed and visualized on a printed report (see below).

3. Dredging operation For many years Aquarius Water Management AG has specialized in cleaning small and mid-size waterways worldwide with a variety of machines. In many cases the ideal machine for this kind of operation is the Aquarius-Amphimaster amphibious vehicle. Aquarius-Amphimaster amphibious vehicle's features:

• versatile, highly manoeuvrable, light-weight and economical • amphibious drive allows operation at shoreline as well as in

the water • low ground pressure of the tracks allows driving on a golf

course fairway without leaving marks in the grass • dredging, excavation and more operations with various

accessories can be accomplished with this unique vehicle

Schematic Drawing of the Plant

A sludge processing plant mainly consists of the following machines and equipments:

The dredger Aquarius-Amphimaster pumps the water with sludge content into a 1. Separator for course material e.g. 5 mm, then the material flows into a 2. Cyclone with a separator for fine material, e.g. 0,2 mm, then into a defined number of 3. Clarifiers and from there the water flows into the 4. Water station where the quality control of the water will be executed. Then the sludge flows from the clarifier into a 5. Dewatering station, where the endproduct is piled as filter cakes It is important to know that this mobile, sludge processing plant will be offered in modules and adapted to local requirements. The model Aquarius-MudMaster M-180-BP, described in this brochure, shows an example of such an installation. Hereafter the system is explained in detail.

4. Separator of Course Material The dredged sludge will be supplied into the system by the Aquarius-Amphimaster amphibious vehicle, transported through hoses and deposited in the separator for course material. The 5 mm screen diameter can be adapted according to specific local needs. The course material will be transported to a sorting station by means of a conveyor belt, where particle sizes of 5 mm und 16 mm will be separated. Further screening will separate the stones with a particle size of 5 mm from the organic material. These course materials can then be washed and reused.

5. Cyclone and Separator of Fine Material After large particles have been removed, the water and the sludge will be pumped from the separator of course material into the cyclone. There they are separated to a particle size of 0,20 mm. The sandy material of a particle size of 0,20 - 5,00 mm falls onto a fine screen with a mesh of 0,20 mm. The photograph shows the combination of the cyclone and the separator of fine material (sand dryer).

The screened sand can be cleaned and reused, if required

6. Clarifier The water and fine sludge will be pumped from the fine material separator, by adding a floculant, into the thickener station (clarifier). The water will be separated from the sludge and then pumped into the water station where quality control testing will be executed. The thickened sludge will simultaneously be pumped into the dewatering station.

7. Water Station with Quality Control The water that comes from the clarifier will be regularly analyzed for quality control before being pumped back into the waterway. In the photograph below, the container on the right hand side shows the water station. The container on the left hand side is the quality control station. The following parameters will be analyzed:

1. pH-value 2. Content of oxygen 3. Conductivity 4. Turbidity 5. Temperature

8. Dewatering Station The final step ends at the dewatering station. The thickened sludge flows through the dewatering station. The remaining, almost dry, sludge is now processed and falls finally into an extruding screw and from there it will be transported by means of a conveyor belt onto a pile or into a container. These „filter cakes“ can be easily transported over the road for disposal. The measured dry substance reaches a level of 70 - 75%.
