Emotions make music alive. Without them, it is simply a constructor. It can be well made, harmonious and correct, but dead. The music of Noonehoney is alive and sincere. Hearing the voice of Elena, you distract from everything and plunge into the song. The Konstantin's music abounds with various samples and melodic accents, that makes it truly profound. Noonehoney is a duo, which will be a discovery in Russian music. And although they have only recently begun their career, they have already released an album, and started working on the next one.

Page 4: Slovo 24 (english language)

Your duo appeared on the scene in 2013. What was before? Tell us, please, about your solo work and participation in other bands.Kostya: I started with grunge, then moved to the psychedelic, post-rock and shoegaze. After I started doing indie rock . And then came a noise and trip-hop. Until Noonehoney I had experimental electronic project called broken f.Lena: Before Noonehoney I was in search. I played in very heavy styles. DSBM, Doom, Funeral, Ambient. Later, I tried to run away in jazz and even pop music. Then there was a period of calm, when you could just form your own idea and send it into the space. The space probably heard me, and now I'm singing in Noonehoney.

Electronic music, which combines several different styles, is usually named "experimental". What is your attitude towards it and how do you rate this plast of music in Russia? We have a good attitude. People are looking for themselves, try something. While you want experimenting – dare doing this!

According to your mood, in my opinion, your music, is closer to trip- hop, though not quite fit into its framework in terms of the sound. How do you define your style? It's just trip-hop. Just electronic music. It is a mixture of trip-hop and broken f. Sometimes we just think to this music and sometimes dance and jump:).

In the album "Even Space" I liked the combination of the "cold" emotional music and live vocals. In my opinion, this is the perfect combination. If you remove the vocals of Elena, the music will be perceived quite another. Voice sometimes merges with the music, and sometimes it contrasts that makes the atmosphere of the disc deep and diverse. Tell us, please, about the idea of the album. After the phrase "If you remove the vocals of Elena...", we thought long how to answer this question:).When we met, we were ready to cooperate, each of us brings in music something own. We did not want to play anything definite. We wanted to play, what was in ourselves. Kostya makes cool cold samples, but his melodies are often positive and good. I, on the contrary, can sing very gently sad themes.

The album concept arose spontaneously during the work, or was thought out in advance? At the initial stage, we just prepared material. Kostya wrote music that reflected his state at that time. I described what I was worried then.Later we saw that some of the tracks had something in common with others. We combined them into one album. Tracks that are not included in it are not bad, they are just other. And we had the idea to combine them into another album with the addition of some live instruments.

Thus, these tracks from the album "Even Space" have common features – search, experiment, rejection of the past to the future, hope. This is reflected in the melodies. This is reflected in the texts. That's how we felt when we created a new project. Carefully, with an eye on the past, but a positive attitude towards the future.

In most cases, the manner of performance is influenced by music. But sometimes the author creates his music under the influence by the manner of execution vocalist. How is it in your duo?In our case, the music affects the manner of performer. Kostya brings music, I ask him what he felt when he was writing it. And after that we start creating vocal lines and lyrics.

The obvious question, but still: why did you decide to write lyrics in English? Tell us, please, about their topics. We liked most English-speaking musical groups. So we decided to continue the trend.

In an environment of electronic music some Russian teams have achieved fame in the West. Often they are even more famous in the West than at home. How do you assess your own opportunities for promotion abroad? Now we are not engaged in the promotion abroad, but looking forward to it. We need to work and work. But more importantly, we must to plunge into the musical environment.

Today electronic music gives many technical devices for creation. There are computer programs, various synths and plug-ins, as well as analog devices. Technological advances are certainly good. But you can often see a situation where young musicians use a lot of different equipment, but they don't create anything interesting. Where, in your opinion, is the verge between necessary appliances and unnecessary toys, which just distract a person from working with his own music?

Verge is in the head. You can mindlessly use different devices and get the appropriate material. And you can use simple things to make something original and cool.

Tell us, please, about the collaboration with the label Cuntroll.Cuntroll, namely Mark of the project Paradeigma, is one of the few in Russia who promotes trip-hop and abstract hip-hop culture. He combines them into one large community, prepares a variety of activities, cooperating with the already known groups such as Flunk, Elsiane, Hidden Orchestra. He does all to draw public attention to this area, as well as to find new names.

There are not so many labels of this kind in Russia. Why? To what extent do musicians need them today? And how do you refer to the prophecies of the death of the labels in the relations of development of music distribution in the Internet?Label for little-known teams is community of musicians and producers. It's a commonwealth. We

think that they will remain, because sooner or later the musical movement will be united by common interests.

Now you are working on new songs. Will they be included in the next album? And when do you plan to release it?Yes, we are preparing a new album, and this time we decided to start with an idea. All songs are united in a single concept. In the first album we had to discard all the old, to experience it, to feel and release. Now, when we did this, we are ready to show ourselves. It is too early to tell about time of release, because in addition to working on the songs we're shooting a video and preparing for the concerts.

What do you know about Iceland? That's right - Bjork. Someone, of course, remember the unique nature of this country, but they are unlikely to be able to say much about this very distinct nature. But every who listened to Bjork's music can tell clearly about it. Even compared to other well-known Icelandic musicians, such as Sigur Ros, Olafur Arnalds or Qurashi, Bjork stands out. She became one of the most important persons in the world music of the last two decades. You can remember about Bjork as wonderful actress and a beautiful woman. But even so, one way or another, it is associated with her music. Her music is not just unusual, it always reflects her own world. Worlds of other authentic singers can be described as "internal", telling about love, longing, melancholy and other feelings, in reality elusive, but at least it has a name.Bjork's world don't fit these standard names. It's difficult to write about it by words. And it requires a special perception on the part of the listener. That's the reason why you do not hit in unison with her music. That's kind of the song once gave you the shivers, but now it's just a good song. A year later, it again awakens

something in the soul, but something quite different than before.Bjork's music is difficult for frequent listening. In this case, it becomes the background, it loses all its complex nuances, accents, placed invisibly and requiring the attention of the listener. But perceiving it carefully from time to time, you will make a holiday for you. That is, Bjork will create them for you.I always thought that is very difficult to create videos for such music. This music requires some special imagery, and therefore fantasy able to generate it. But you cannot go too far with the game way that instead of impressive video does not get a kaleidoscope of primitive images generated by stereotypes of mass culture. So many Bjork's music videos are good, but difficult to understand. And it demand to dive into them further, parallel immersion in her music. It generates new contexts. Although it is likely that we, the audience, will generate them. The video itself and the music just give us that opportunity. Or doesn't give, if we do not need it. And do you really need Bjork music? Listen and think about it.

It is difficult to speak about this singer without trepidation. Bjork is beautiful! Her voice is beatiful! Every new album by her is an event. Needless to say, that «Vulnicura» was no exception.Bjork's albums are melancholic. To some extent. They are always deep. About the depth of music we can talk endlessly. But you must admit that the majority of popular hits will not be named such. They are momentary, joyful, easy. We listen, dance, watch the videos and turn them off. After several auditions, they already evoke boredom.Deep music is that created with pain. It has a complex emotions: love, or spleen. Is Bjork's music melancholic? Unlikely. But love in it splashes over the edge.Bjork tends to make large-scale compositions. It's always been in her music and through time it progresses. Violins, keyboards - all of them create a melody of simple harmonies. But this music is like a rising storm.

And from year to year Bjork need less to create music of such a grand scale. It seems that using one note, she can change the perception of the entire song.Album «Vulnicura» greets us with tense, as if preparing for something terrible, wind instruments. And throughout the album they support this background. A violin, always of plaintive sound, makes this album so that you are not relaxed. That you are listened, penetrated through the dissonance that Bjork carefully used in their music. Drums are electronic, are not live. They played like a "close" with "symphony" part of the album. And then there is the voice of Bjork. It put everything in its place. No dissonance, no drums, no wind and string. Nothing escapes from the authority of the singer. All of them are connected by her voice. And gets the listener far beyond just music. «Vulnicura» is a modern shamanism.

Over the time music albums all become alike. There are very similar. Not because the musicians lose their original ideas, but the memory of listeners becomes full of thousands records. And if you listen to one genre's albums, then you cannot get rid from the feeling of deja vu. No matter how wonderful new album will be.Actually, not originality makes music favorite. On the contrary, it becomes such, getting into a very narrow framework of favorite. Something like that, what you have heard, and that you very much affected at one time. And now you heard "copy". The copy, which was able to convey all the essential and very important emotions. You cannot come off, and you'll listen to it any more new discoveries. The album, about which I'm going to write, is completely different. It is new. New, not only by the release date, but also with sound. And most importantly, it's new by its idea.

Page 10: Slovo 24 (english language)

In pursuit of originality often musicians are immersed in the depths of experiments in which they forget about harmony. About warmth of music and about it appeal. Indeed, in the history of music were (and are) many very good albums, which present unusual and interesting musical ideas. In addition, it can have good lyrics. But the problem is that you listen to them in tension. These albums are like a scientific book that is interesting and useful to read, but the reading process can hardly be called funny. Alas, this is the other side of the "coin of experiment". But again this is not about the album "Polyusa".What you will hear on this album? You will hear the music that has to appear in Russia long ago. Every country should have its own good music designed for a wide range of listeners. Music that can unite audiophiles and people who's not too deeply immersed in the world of sound. For several decades, the role of this music in Russia play "popsa". Is it possible to call the music? Unlikely. But the endless wave of advertising garbage in Russia and has not appeared music that could be described as popular without negative connotations inherent in the russian word "popsa". There were attempts to create it. Let us remember the same Mihey or Linda. But there were just a few examples.Karsa with her album "Polyusa" shows an example of such music in its modern form. Of course, in the past year in Russia there have been other examples in this direction. In particular albums of Naadya. But the "Polyusa" is another. And now is the time to say about it in detail. What this album is special, important and very good.Karsa created a fusion of hip-hop and vocal music. I will not even try to define the vocal component of the disk within the scope of any one style. Just imagine the music, which is basically constructed in accordance with the structure of the hip-hop beat. But it sounds soft, melodious and very harmonious. If hip-hop is often makes monotonically shake his head to the rhythm and bass beat, the instrumentals album "Polyusa" sound smoothly. This is achieved not only through music, but also because of the

rhythm. Rhythm throughout the whole record is shed naturally and naturally, without forgetting its primary task. That is not opposed to the rhythm of music, and is closely connected with it by the sound of percussion instruments, their softness. Like every instrumental prepares us to a sharp jump, and by rolling takeoff. But we will never leave the ground, if not vocal component of the album. Karsa bring this feeling of lightness, a feeling of flight by her voice and her lyrics. Therefore, if we can called "Polyusa" light album, that in the first place, not because of the absence of some aggressive guitar riffs and bass in its sound. But thanks to this feeling of flight, which it gives.I like how Karsa sing. Her manner. I think it is perfect to her music. Perhaps because Karsa makes the music herself. So all of her songs are a holistic images of the words and feelings. What Karsa tells in her songs? I'd say that she sing about love. In the all-encompassing sense of the word. About love for people, the love of the world, the love of life. And at the same time Karsa sing about freedom, without which it is hardly possible love. On the support of loved ones, without which it is not easy to live with. On faith in their own strength, without which the world seems unapproachable and dangerous. Karsa writes the lyrics, filled with images. Such lyrics, and even in this performance, did not immediately perceive verbatim. First, you listen to the voice and music. And then you start to try to understand the specific phrases. With each new listening constructing additions more and more pieces of the puzzle. Therefore, I want to listen to the album "Polyusa" again and again. And because I want to feel its lightness. And the melody. But you already knew. And I think you want to make this for sure. And rightly so - the album "Polyusa" is worth it! Remember what I wrote at the beginning of this review about your favorite music, and new music? So the album "Polyusa" is the new music that could easily become your favorite!

For creative person ambient music opens spaces, where boundaries are lost. You are not limited by musical harmony or rhythm or chord structure. It's nothing. There are just a sound, which, as in life, flows and lives its own life. It itself creates numerous echoes in reflection and collisions with other sounds. As long as creator, author must run these sounds in their idea.Robert Rich produces albums for many years. And of course they are very different. Its ambient is soft and joyful, the dark and quiet.«Filaments» is an energetic album. In its sound all move through ranges and constantly changing. This is not the ambient background, lost among the sounds of the room. No. «Filaments» fills the whole room. And the listener is at the center of this music. In the center of this world. Like in the jungle, where all sides give sounds by unknown beings.«Filaments» is an album of his time. It has a lot of electronics. It has an atmosphere of doubt and tension. But there are moments of peace and quiet. This is our modern world, where madness is growing, but it is still the corners of peace and tranquility. Refuge for people fleeing from savagery. «Filaments» is the border between these places and squall of the coming wave.

A native of NY born in the 60's Skeem was raised within the teachings of Mighty Zulu Nation & Hip-Hop Culture. Originally a B-Boy rockin with crews like Nasty with Rock, Come Off Brothers (C.O.B.) & Just Class; Skeem was able to travel outside the NY Neighborhoods spreading awareness of a culture in its infancy stage. A longtime Hip-Hop advocate & Member of Universal Zulu Nation World Council Executive Team he continues to support Hip-Hop projects worldwide. Skeem is co-owner of AmaZulu Apparel and Director of Operations for UZN_MCA a non-for-profit Multicultural Arts Foundation aimed at educating, supporting and addressing cultural diversity problems within our communities through the Arts.

Page 13: Slovo 24 (english language)

When you were a teenager, how did you see hip-hop?I saw Hip-Hop as a way to escape from the violence, drugs and everyday demons waiting for us out in the streets. A way to find acceptance without being a gangster or stick up kid. It truly challenged those that heard the calling to find our identities, create and inspire.

Could you then foresee the changes, which occurred in hip-hop over the years? The positive vibe and sense of ownership; like this is our thing kept me believing Hip-Hop was larger than we at the time could really imagine. As for the transformation in styles it's like all groundbreaking movements in where every generation has its own way of expression. Has industry tainted its purity? Only part-time fans of the music will agree. The true Hip-Hop Advocate will not agree. Hip-Hop has a greater influence today as a cultural movement, and the music associated like RAP is such a small part of the bigger picture. I couldn't foresee the changes, but knew in my heart it was not going anywhere. Something so powerful will adapt with the times and like all things change is inevitable.

Tell me, please, about your hip-hop projects, the ones you realized before and the ones you are working at now.As a young b-boy in the early 80's I had the opportunity to travel, perform and teach the artform. I performed in big arenas, local festivals, music videos and night clubs as far as Korea. Today I'm more of the supporting role; advocating for UZN & Hip-Hop. Trying to teach the lessons I had the privilege to learn at an early age, and share the knowledge given to me by Bambaataa and other influencial UZN Leaders. Doing exactly what UZN & Hip-Hop thought me as a youngster; teach, inspire and create oppurtunities for the future of our culture.

How did the Universal Zulu Nation change your worldview?A kid growing up in NY having the opportunity to travel, perform and find common ground in lands he or she never knew existed was mind blowing. That's something you keep in your mind forever. As I aged those images remained, and gave me a healthy respect for those areas I traveled then, and the new regions I have the pleasure of interacting with today. It takes a powerful entity like Hip-Hop Culture & the Universal Zulu Nation to show us we are not different in fact we are quite the same. Our communities suffer from the same plagues, injustices and challenges regardless of location.

The Universal Zulu Nation includes many different people from all over the world. Each of them has his own views, cultural traditions and beliefs. Sometimes these views confront each other. But people stay together and cooperate in spite nuances. What, in your opinion, does unite all the Amazulus apart from hip-hop?I truly believe we are all ancestrally connected the very force that drives us to be AmaZulu is the force that ties us together. We are not here by chance, we are destined, we are on the same path and that's why we continue to power forward regardless of external differences.

People, who don't know much about The Universal Zulu Nation, often think that it unites only hip-hoppers or represents a "mystical" organization. How would you dispel this myth communicating with such people? If you were to ask me this question 20 years ago the answer would have been long winded. Today I simply tell our brothers & sisters on a global scale to seek the knowledge, learn by research and don't expect someone's truth to be your own. I can only speak for myself to truly understand UZN, its mystical aura and all its intricacies go to www.zulunation.com. Take the time to research our rich history it will be both educational and inspirational.

How do you see the difference between myth and science? Many Amazulus are really interested in ancient mythology of different ethnics: African, Asian, European and etc. Some of them think that myths are knowledge. Others talk about the faith that you cannot prove scientifically which has mythology. What is the difference between mythology and science? And can one consider mythology as knowledge, or knowledge must be checked and proved scientifically? One can only conclude by researching all works regardless if at present time you believe it to be truth or not. My belief is irrelevant if you have not done the research to find the answers to questions you seek. Knowledge is truly a powerful thing, and knowledge sharing is the tool in which we can become the wiser. A one sided discuss leaves those engaged at square one, so I guess in short study what sparks your interest and the answers you seek will become clearer. See link below:http://zulunation.com/knowledge-science

Tell me, please, about the development of the Universal Zulu Nation. What are the most important events occurred from that time when you became its member? How was the Universal Zulu Nation spreading around the world? This is a great question because it really shows the diversity and range Zulu Nation had and continues to have. You can ask this question to 100 different members, and no two stories will be the same. I was introduced to Mighty Zulu Nation by King Soul & The Great Pozo in The Bronx 1980 during a bboy cypher. Some of today's legendary bboys were rockin together in the park that day. They invited me to a jam where I

saw Cold Crush, Rayvon, Magnificent 7 and a few others performing at a place called Studio 125 or Randy's Place. At this point in time Mighty Zulu Nation had been around for approx. seven years. These AmaZulu's told me about the origins from Black Spades, the Organization and Mighty Zulu Nation. That one day changed my life as I went from feeling the gravitational pull of this movement to being an active participant. Now to say there was a single most important event would be impossible. Every Zulu Nation event regardless if it was Bambaataa, Cold Crush, Rockwell or any local performance was important it was our thing to enjoy. See the culture was still in its infancy, so everything was a building block and truly Fresh. It was those days that spawned the invasion as we got noticed outside of NY, but even that alone was not the only avenue of growth. Some people forget to pay homage to the ones bold enough to venture outside of our playgrounds. The few not from our neighborhoods, but at some point were exposed to the movement. See it was with their help that when things bled into those areas they kept the relevance going by advocating for us. A marketing and distribution source we were unaware of at the time. Their performances were pivotal as well, because it kept the conversation growing and the movement spreading beyond our neighborhoods.

Re-pac is one of the best Russian freestyler. A participant and winner of numerous battles, has earned a reputation for his standup biting rhymes. Today Re-pac often appears as a judge of such events and mostly works in the studio for new tracks. Re-pac told our magazine about freestyle and changes in the creation work.

Page 16: Slovo 24 (english language)

First of all, you are known as a freestyle master. Let start our conversation with this aspect. But you first started writing lyrics, and then began to try freestyle? What attracted you to freestyle? For me it was always fun. I love rap and freestyle. Probably, it attracted indeed. And over time, it became enjoyable for people who listened to me. Now it happens that freestyle kicks ass better than tracks, because of its high level and the "here and now" effect.

With the development of your skills, what problems were encountered and how they were solved? After all, there are some key points in any process, something like stage. Tell us, please, about your freestyle skillz growing? At the beginning: explicit, filth and expletives also the absence of rhymes. It's hard to think of a rhythmic structure of freestyle when lines are not associated with each other. When it turns to rhyme and can do it relatively quickly - the second problem is the lack of meaning in the text - too much milk-and-water. I try to change the freestyle flow to slow down the information flux watching the reaction of listeners and make pauses when I see that it's hard to understand for them.

However, the most important thing is to do something meaningful and rhymed, maintaining the maximum concentration, which sometimes needs the right mood.

Among the huge number of batt les you participated, which were the most difficult, and which the most interesting? Or the most sophisticated are also the most interesting?During online battles generally you know the opponent for the round, there is a certain subject, you write text in a short time, looking for a beat, studio, trying somehow to impress the judges and drive out the opponent. All the fuss filled life with different emotions and expectation of the intriguing results. I have not participated freestyle battle for a long time, I'm interested in carrying out and monitoring, to help and ensure the strongest final round. If the participants are solid - it is for me like a battle of wits and charisma. Now is popular "Slovo"-format battles, where is necessary to memorize a large amount of text and to "bring down" an opponent without a beat. I was participated in a similar once. Not so pleasant experience.

SLOVO #24 HIP-HOP

016

Page 17: Slovo 24 (english language)

Tell us about your freestyle school. How does the school help to speed up skillz in comparison with self-education?Freestyle School is a creative space for rhyming and rhetoric. There is a set of exercises that can be performed without any special rap backgrounds, and battles, where the best performers demonstrate their level. Participation enables not only to do meaningful standup rhyme, but also to strengthen self-confidence, learn to defend your point of view. And, of course, to find like-minded people. This is perhaps even more important.

What do you think is it possible for anyone to do freestyle if to work on? And what are the key factors for progress?Last year, I did master classes not only for beginners, but the company directors, actors. Someone just for fun, someone to develop. If people have the desire and time they can learn everything they want.

There is "The King's Speech" album in your discography consisting of battle tracks. What is the dif ference between this a lbum from the "ordinary"? Is such an album in-demand?There are ten tracks from the ninth official. We decided to make a few hundred copies as a keepsake. The result was more mixtape than an album and diverse enough in my opinion. About the demand it's difficult to say

something. I was known for some purely as Battle MC, and for someone this work is the best of what I was doing.

Do battle subjects limit you as a lyricist? There is always your own interest and subjects can meet it, and can be very far from it.Battles subjects limit, and now I do not associate myself with the battle rap. Over time, it became not important for me. I associate myself more creative rather than destructive.

If we talk about the present level of freestyle in Russia and the world? What about the level of Russian freestylers? It is difficult to compare with foreign freestylers, since I do not watch for this, and have not enough language level to assess. About Russian freestyle I hope that will do something to help promote this movement in Russia.

In the US freestyle battles are very popular and profitable. But here, with a few exceptions, it still remains a subcultural phenomenon. Why?All in good time. Subculture is still evolving and now has become a solid business. After childhood diseases the product will be better and more interesting.

MCs are increasingly turning to classical poetry, trying to put it to beats. What do you think of these attempts? What is missing in such experiments? There is "RE: poets" by Nahum Blick for 5 years. And I think that this experiment was just enough. I used to listen. "Beat Poetry" by Slovetsky and Gruby Niotkuda perfectly performed verses of my favorite poets. During the creative I used to memorize the classics to force the brain. When you learn by heart poems and read dozens of times, new meanings are disclosed. In general, the classics have a lot to learn. For example, Brodsky punchline: "Do not go out of the room, not to make mistakes. Why do you want the sun, if you smoke shipka? "Shipka" and "The Sun" are cigarettes brands. Cool! Isn't it?

Last year you released "To pieces" EP feat. Lisa Small. Tell us, please, about your collaboration and this disc.It so happened that all coincided, and we recorded this release. I have collected enough texts for release such a work. Lisa gave impetus to create such songs.

When we were in Moscow, the hall was full of young ladies who sang the chorus and asked to perform "To pieces" encore. It was very funny, well, Mom appreciated.

Tell us, please, about your present projects.Finalizing the on-Air. It will be a show with electro music. Doing a tribute to the classic hip-hop feat. DJ Topor. A short while ago clip to be released. Doing mysterious rites so as "Hip Hop Academy" to be released, finally. I've got a couple feats with Munstar and ZKMN. Hope this year all three will be released, but keep in mind new things.

D-Kay Drummasta for Russian hip-hop man outside the box, because it does not fit in most of its standards. He looks at the hip-hop in his international understanding. Interested in a classic and is not afraid to experiment with different genres of music. Perennial creativity has led to some interesting developments that can be heard in the produced D-Kay Drummasta albums. But on his solo releases, he also does not forget. The newest of them - "TRIANGLE" gathered many distinguished guests from both Russia and the United States. Record was without exaggeration on a global scale! And the D-Kay Drummasta appeared on the album not only as a producer, but MC.

Over the past ten years, have you had a lot of projects. And on top of that time came your producer activity. Tell us, please, about the development of your creativity.I have said many times that I do more bits than releasing tracks, because it is faster and easier. And over time, and it became my source of income. It so happens that I have produced more people than produce its own material. I partially produced several albums and EP underground artists. Then, together with CURLYROCK electronic album released under the name FREEZEE DEE. After that, make a joint hip-hop album with the band 4BLOCK, and a year later, already in 2014, released his album "TRIANGLE", where full-scale presented themselves MC and producer of all the tracks.

Once you are in the network rather critical spoke about the general level beatmaking in Russia. What is, in your opinion, is the main problem? The problem is that in Russia everything fit stereotypical. While in the West are not "allowed", then begin to create, with something similar. Even those who consider themselves progressive, make tracing. This tracing with Flying Lotus, for example. This is a

very shameful, I think. While the creators will not be creators - free in every sense - no development and identity in full will not be.

In my opinion beatmaking the former Soviet Union in the past 5-10 years has made quite a big step forward. You cannot say about rap. Although they have a common problem - the lack of knowledge about the world of hip-hop, and, accordingly, down plank on which they focus. Rappers concerned, first of all, because even for the novice beatmaker need at least some level of technical knowledge in the field of music. And people even learn something. But for the microphone are taken at all without any preparation, without ideas, and just to make a copy of a copy of a low-grade fashion. What do you say?Five-ten years, it was a shame really will not move, given the speed of the Internet and the development of resources. But it should be noted that, as I said above, this progress a bit ephemeral. I must say MCing too advanced. Just progress beatmaking too overvalued. But agree - MC become lighter than the producer, so low-level product among MC than among beatmaker.

"TRIANGLE" became your biggest solo debut. Debut, which gathered a lot of foreign and Russian MC. Tell us, please, about the work on the album. The work was long. Basically it consisted of waiting verses participants. Instrumentals made by themselves for most of my creativity. I procrastinated on this album are those which I myself like the most. The texts were written in different times, for three years. Shortly before recording a track Guilty Simpson I lost my verse and wrote a new one, and actually get better. The rest was all according to plan. REDD album myself, and did not bring the level of information to commercial gloss - I just came to the door of opportunity and experience, and decided that the best the enemy of the good.

When ready full album itself, eliminating the need for organizat ional work. In the case of "TRIANGLE" you not only had to work on their own creative part of the drive, but also to coordinate a lot of invited guests. How difficult was it to collect all MC on one CD?It is very difficult. And basically it came to Russian representatives. The biggest story was with a party on track with Guilty Simpson. Initially it was supposed to be L'One, who after long postponements decided to just give up, despite the fact that it might be a featung with one of his favorite artists.

Nel refused Zhara dealt album, Smoki Mo wanted me to not read on this track, and I have refused him. Slovetsky came from, but to no avail. And in the end I serendipitously, found someone who really fit there better than anyone who really captured the soul of the international hip-hop. Many times I was grateful to him and to the fate of the track "wait" was his. This is Bess from V-Style.

Do you work with a variety of genres of electronic music. However "TRIANGLE" not much inclusions of other genres. This completely hip-hop album. But the album with its own sound. Tell us, please, about the sound of your music. What are its recognizable features?I would not say that I am an electronic musician. I'm just a big fan of hip-hop Detroit schools, the sound is influenced techno. The album is very clearly hear the influence of people like Black Milk and J Dilla. Their little electronic incarnation. I must say that the composition of the Western participants in Michigan is 50% of the album. They feel what I'm doing, and I, in turn, inspired by the fact that they do. For me, a great achievement that the MC heard me closer to myself sound.

Search your sound for every musician is very important. That helps to find it? And in some cases, it all comes down to endless and fruitless experiments?Inspiration around every objects and phenomena, you just take a closer look or go for example to the other side. You should never do hip-hop, listening to hip-hop. Never have anyone to repeat. You just need to do something that sounds! Fruitless experiments are when they are not laid no sense. Used technique for the reception. Or when a person has no taste. The best way to do something new - this is to make music as if you had never heard music. That's a real experiment.

And more about the experiments - you work with different genres of electronic music. Tell us, please, about them. Why did you choose to certain genres, and how they interact with your creative ideas?Again I say that nothing do not limit yourself. I already know from others that this is some kind of genre.

Tell us, please, about your production center ADVANCE HOMIE LABEL.Initially, it was something like an indie label. With a set of artists and the slogan "we - the team." The aim was to gather qualitative artists/producers in different niches of hip-hop and even partially in electronic music. When I realized that we are not quite the team and not any body, I just decided that everything made by me,

will go under my name and founder of the engine of all this brand. AND ADVANCE HOMIE LABEL - it's just a studio and the epicenter of all that can be obtained - knowledge, music, events, advice connection with all those who need it. That is in fact the producer and educational center.

What projects are being implemented as part of the center? As part of the outreach activities - is live on radio BEATS FM, which resumed after repair studio, participation in lectures related to hip-hop and all its elements, with the support of friends and former members of the label. And of course the studio work.

What was the reaction of the audience to the album "TRIANGLE"? How do you evaluate your music and your recitative? The most wonderful reaction, which can be in this country in the field of hip-hop - it comments on all known portal. But me they are not confused. We have with other artists out there who are published, we love to measure those on whom fell a larger volume of dirt. If the order - Productions was absolutely positive response.

Me as MC appreciated a little less people, because in their style, I was a bit far from the standards of Russian rap listener and besides, I decided to give the maximum diversity in the supply and receptions. Write different techniques. At some point the comments they made me think even a little, and I listened to the album once again (I really do not like to do with your material) and realized that I was not in vain satisfied MCing own level. It must be on something to work, but not to the extent as the well-known commentators advise the portal. And of course, many would prefer to discuss my appearance more than the material itself.

As far as today, people are attracted to international cooperation?I would say that the boom. After the start of my project on this type of cooperation have reflected many of hip-hop. I began to do some kind of starting point, or simply it was in the air - I do not know. But I would say that this is the only way to get Russia as a country in which there is a hip-hop at the international level, even bypassing the language barrier. I must say, in other styles of music, particularly in the electronic, one no longer thinks about it - just do it. Long and well.

Previously, each joint track with foreign MC surprise and became news. Today, although not much more beyond, the listener perceives such tracks more calmly. How Come? This is the result of

the closure of the majority of students (and performers) Russian rap in their own niche?I would not say it quietly. I would say that someone is still - and so will all the same. Mass we do not know who those people on the international featuring. Therefore, it seems that calm.

What are your creative plans for 2015?In 2015 it is necessary to renovate and re-open my studio. Make EP, without the goal to prove something hip-hop, and just for yourself. I think he's much like it. There will be more than what is considered fashionable or pop - who as call - I just did what I like. Some material was generally made in 2011, even before some of the fashion trends of today. There you will track with the LSP. We ought to take a ride on a tour of Russia and, hopefully, Belarus. Side by side with Dj N-Tone, and perhaps even in parallel with my father. In general, the year will be interesting and I hope that it will be the year of harvest. I sow a field long and carefully - it's time to enjoy the fruits already.

It includes an impressive number of respected DJs, MCs, writers and b-boys from St. Petersburg. Papalam MC is a prominent representative of street flava. In addition, he is interested in sound engineering and music producing and is gradually gaining prominence in this field. But many people know him primarily due to the translations of films about hip-hop in the framework of the project QUEENSxPAPALAM. The translations found its fans across the whole Russia, and this contribution of Papalam MC to the development of hip-hop culture in the Russian-speaking environment is difficult to overestimate.

Page 24: Slovo 24 (english language)

How did you start your way in music? How did you find yourself as an artist?I do not know why it can be concluded that I found myself as an artist - I am constantly in the process of search. I am looking for something, sometimes without knowing what exactly: different sounds, different styles, different genres. I like to try and experiment with new things constantly. I like the songwriting process, and the process of mixing and mastering. I think this is as well a kind of art, I like it.

Tell us, please, about Cash2Hash Click. Is it a team, a group or just an association of people who think in the same direction?I myself cannot say what it is, really. Originally it was thought to be one thing, eventually it transformed into something quite different. But this is a group of people, of course, definitely thinking somewhere in the same direction, somewhere differently. It is clear that all people cannot think in the same direction. Now, let's say, it's a conditional association, and it's just parties, where we can all get together to sing songs, to cry into a microphone and have fun.

When did you first start to translate the movies, what pushed you to take this step? There were so many cult untranslated films, I thought, why don´t I make translations of them? At that time, for me it was just a fun, I liked simulating the sound of 90s single-voice translations. When I watched the video on tapes, I liked all sorts of phrases like "hey, you shit-bastard, come, come here", and stuff like that. But now I tryto do it more professionally.

What you are guided by, when you get to the translation process? You get a lot of wishes and, of course, you filter this information strictly. What

challenges do you face when it comes to the translation process of the next film and the organization of this show in public?I am guided by the fact that I like, and what number of views can be achieved. And yes, it happens that I firmly filter the information because there are films, which I do not want to translate. There aren't special difficulties. Many people ask whether it is possible to organize the show of films, but very few do it. I do not understand that really. In fact, there is nothing easier than to organize the film exhibition. Everybody benefits from that, including the place where you do it. And it does not necessarily have to be a cinema. People constantly ask me how they can relate it with a cinema? Just go to any bar, club, where there is a projector, and make evening show. A certain number of people will come necessarily, even if your town has only ten thousand inhabitants. Rappers should be probably everywhere.

What do you devote most of your time now to? Is it translations, recording new material or organizing events? In fact, I dedicate my main time to "doing nothing", just chill. But still, of course, translations require much time.

What do you wish the artists, who experience so called writer's block?Just go through it and move on. Everything is cool! I tried answering honestly. Peace for all!

When was the turning point in the life of “Ulis”? Apparently it was in the late 90's, or rather in the early 2000s. But never the fracture does not occur simultaneously, it is always growing, based on changes in reality and in the people. Ulis started playing harder, but at the same time began to fade the feeling that gave the old records of this group. A wonderful feeling. Sense of hope.Ulis is forever associated with "Radio Liberty", "Land of the long white cloud" and "When the empire will disappear". This again are songs of its time. And now they sound with a certain melancholy flavor, because the empire is still there, and still seeks to destroy even the freedom that on the radio, not to mention the fact that in reality we have not found even a necessary minimum of freedom. But Ulis gave not only hope for the future. And they gave a sense of inner freedom, here and now. And it continues to give the feeling of those who are now able to feel the songs by Ulis in early 90s. Time passed, and Ulis changed. It was a logical change, but somehow the same Ulis still sounds in me. The country is the same - "of the long white cloud".

And what does it mean? So it's not just nostalgia, but a memory, and the lessons of history, which are reflected in the music. After all, culture is not only a mirror, but the engine of society. It is time for the new songs of freedom. And empire sooner or later will be destroyed under its own weight. If someone says that we have too much protest songs, let him think over their content and quality. Unfortunately, over the past fifteen years we have not so many songs interesting and profound in content and worldview and its reflection. We have in Belarus more easy smooth rock, which teenagers like. They relax with this music. And well, let it be. But probably there is no rock music to which they might think. And all this entertaining rock reflects only the brightly colored "positive" rather than the reality of the emotional richness. That makes the old bands like Ulis, Novaye Nieba, N.R.M., Zygimont Vaza, Deviation, Kaljan. Some of these groups or their members still continue their unique, interesting and critical creativity, under the old and new names. Somebody has not been engaged in music for a long time. But they became an example of rock, which is really the Belarusian one.

Tend to generalize and systematize. It's easier way to understand the world around us. But this way we are creating a lot of new borders.Dan Gualdoni destroys the borders. The world shines by colors in his paintings. And there is no contrasts among these colors. Every Dan Gualdoni's landscape is a single living organism. It is fantastic organism.

SLOVO #24 MOVIE

Movie, which reflects life, is hard to watch. Life is such. Few people have life like a perpetual holiday. But life of most part of our people is not that full of problems. No, just the world around is one big problem. Objectively speaking, there are a lot of places on this planet that can definitely be called a chasm. And the inhabitants of these places feel hopeless. They are born with that feeling, and they die with it. Society of these people is not able to generate human relations. It becomes animalistic. Cruel, greedy, deceitful, soaked with fear. It is a society of hatred.A movie about this world should cause disgust in a sane person. If it is not, then you become one of them. And that's the way into the abyss.

Page 32: Slovo 24 (english language)

In Russia, in the last years two movies were released that can be considered iconic. They describe the life of the most Russians. This movies described it as objectively as possible. These are "Leviafan" ("Leviathan") and "Kombinat "Nadejda" ("HopePlant”). The first of them already gained worldwide fame, the second is known within Russia basically. The proximity of these films is in their social message. They show life that cannot be called normal. Lies, hypocrisy, venality, fear and anger of people. It's very hard to find good heroes in those movies. If in the "Leviathan" to them can still be counted the protagonist - Kolya, in the movie "Hope Plant" nobody is good. Director of this movie, Natalia Meschaninova, showed in her film Norilsk. Actually in his place could be any city in Russia. And not only in Russia, but in most of the countries former USSR. This is world of lumpens. Of all ages. They go to work, discuss each other, swear, drink, bay the same prostitute, which they called "meat", and which at the same time is their friend from childhood neighbor. Somebody considers this hopelessness as norm. Those are of the majority. Others, like the main character, dream an escape. But knowing that the probability of it is close to zero, she finds guilty for their troubles. This is a prostitute. And she killed her. No similarity? The system of modern Russia is built on the same principles. It is the movement to a standstill, and the search for those responsible for this. Everyone except themselves.Watching this film aversion increases and reaches a maximum. Because all this I see around me. Everything is exactly as in the movie. And even disgust created by the fact that nobody knows how to forgive. No one even thought of this. Maybe we all have forgotten how to do it? Are we doomed and nothing can be changed?"Leviathan" by Andrey Zvyagintsev goes further and introduces the theme of hopelessness element without that it does not exist in any country. Collective despair is only possible where it is cultivated by system. Government system. That in Russia is a criminal system –

no need to explain. One has to be blind to see not the obvious. And this film can be the revelation only for the Europeans and Americans who are not accustomed to situations when the mayor of the city easily takes your home. But in Russia people are accustomed to this. And to hypocritical bureaucrats of the Russian Orthodox Church, who tell about God, lie and serve the secular power. A secular power is their power. This is the real Leviathan. In the service of the devil. It is symbolic that taking home the mayor killing wife of his enemy and put him in prison for this murder. The mayor is building on the place of this home ... a church. And bureaucracy-bishop preaches inside about truth and faith. And the killers from government listen to this sermon with truthful faces. And then sit in their expensive cars and go past the beggar village, where thousands of its inhabitants drink and wait for the mercy of God. Residents, who themselves lie to each other, are afraid of the authorities, and hate it. But in fear of his neighbor willing to give government devours. Where is their faith? And where is the truth? And what is the way out, even when the wife of one of the protagonist betrayed him?In the movie another church is also shown. Faithful, but only with the same fear and submission to authority of bishop. And where is the freedom? Freedom of faith and the Church from the servants of the devil in the face of its bureaucrats?Cinema is the art of personality, not just entertainment for the masses. These two films are examples of a cinema that we need. It must be! It is necessary to remind that the film is a way to talk to a person. Way to sow seed in their thinking that maybe sprout conscience. And the desire for liberation. For life. And God forbid that we won't overcome Leviathan. And challenge the hopelessness in which our society is soaked.

SLOVO #24 SOCIETY

Tolerance in the understanding of most people is a synonym for indulgence. And indulgence, in turn, in the mass consciousness is considered a weakness. The result of that stereotype is a mockery on the very notion of tolerance by the adherents of totalitarian ideologies of all kinds. It's no wonder, of course. Tolerance is a concept developed for developed people. People who have been persons, not only biological organisms. Hannah Arendt said that mediocrity do evil. Mediocrity don't understand the notion of tolerance. For its recognition we need to become persons. Is it arrogant? No, because person is self-critical. Such a person is aware of their mistakes and shortcomings. Mediocrity is always confident. They don't know they own worth, but they sure in their own infallibility and pricelessness. Because mediocrity obey orders. Or does all like everyone. Or «it was necessary in the circumstances». And no question then arises. No doubts that the order was criminal. Doubts that all may not be right. That situation should not deprive a man of his principles. But they do not have these same principles. And it explains everything . Explains the difference between mediocrity and personality.

Page 34: Slovo 24 (english language)

What is it? In addition, this "contingent" of unscrupulous individuals always gravitates toward totalitarianism. They very like leaders. Because these people worship those who are stronger, and despise those who are weaker. All this was described in detail. Repeat in detail it makes no sense, what the article's format does not permit. But it allows and it makes sense to focus on the respect for tolerance. This is important because this value, which helps to build a world of persons who respect each other, but not world of wild animals, who shout "Break dog's heads!".So what is tolerance? This is not an abstract indulgence. Because you can even tolerate violence on themselves. But where is the tolerance? It's the simple fear. Sometimes masochism, but does not respect for dissent. And it is the respect and hiding under the name of tolerance. Yes, the respect for a different culture, a different view of the world, and other preferences. Like any phenomenon in our world, tolerance also have borders. And not only the internal subjective boundaries. But also are quite objective. With internal borders in general, everything is clear. Every person has a set of phenomena of the world, that he or she does not like. Someone other is in delight for them. Respecting the right of others, we do not have to be involved to the things that we do not like. Those things must be beyond our personal space. And in general, there is no particular problem if people respect each other. They do not interfere with the privacy of each. And access to public space should be open to all equally. Of course, this does not relieve the people from the debates, but they are solved peacefully. This is another important component of tolerance. With regard to the objective of borders, the key of them is phenomena, that threatening factor for life, health and freedom of people. Among them, how tarious financial projects (environmentally hazardous industries, etc.) and misanthropic totalitarians ideology is! Everyone can have their own beliefs about how society should be organized. However, there are a number of ideologies, which all but his followers, classifies the enemies and requires them to either join the ranks of the "true faith" or die. Do the carriers of these ideologies understand the word "tolerance"? Of course, don't. In addition to their mediocrity, they have no concept of respect. It is replaced by the fear of the strongest. They are "gopniks" (russian definition

for lumpens) erected to the rank of (pseudo) intellectuals. Dictatorships cultured this kind of human on all steps of its hierarchical pyramid. And they always laugh of the tolerance, telling that tolerant people are weak. Can we apply tolerance for this people? No. In any case. Just as a rabid animal cannot be calm during the aggression. They are shot. Beasts in human form repeat the behavior of rabid animals. And fully borrow their way of life, built on the basis of his social system. Social superstructure here is reduced to a set of tools of propaganda and manipulation of people. But notice how quickly the rhetoric of these people changes, when for them were applied not tolerance, but their methods - violence. They all start screaming about human rights violations, "European values" that they themselves daily vilify and ridicule. And this is significant - the representatives of the hateful ideology understand only force. This is their language. And people need to be spoken to with the language they understand. Especially those who do not accept tolerance to others, and therefore negates the possibility of its application in relation to themselves.
