* Begin by listening for atleast 21 days in a rowResearch shows it takes at least 21 days of repetition for the mind to begin retuning itself. This will START the changes you’ll begin to notice in the weeks ahead. Many people listen when they go to bed and fall asleep listening – which is good, as the ears are always awake. However, others are equally successful if they listen to their Slimpod first thing in the morning during snooze time. Everyone’s different and what’s important is what works best for you.

* You don’t have to thinkabout the words you hearThe words you hear are designed to influence your subconscious. You shouldn’t try to concentrate on what is said; just relax and aim to empty your mind of all thoughts. That’s when the Slimpod will work best. Trust it!

* Create your goals and thenwrite them downThere’s something magical about writing down your goals. There is a part of your brain called the Reticular Activating System, a network of nerve cells that act like radar, directing your attention to what’s important for you. When you write down goals and create a goal map it switches on your RAS, which then hones in on anything that will help you achieve those goals. A visual goal map is vital for programming your RAS most successfully.

* Fill in your Success Logevery single dayYou’ll find a contract with yourself and a 42-day Success Log in your handbook. Filling in the Success Log every day is an essential part of the process because everyone knows that seeing is believing. Completing the log just before you listen to your Slimpod each time is very important because it brings to mind the changes that are happening and prompts your RAS to help you produce more. Put simply, you get more of what

you focus on: So focus on good new habits and you’ll get more good habits.

* You can listen to two Slimpods If you have a second Slimpod such as the Chocoholic Cure or Beat That Sweet Tooth, you can listen to it as well as a weight loss Slimpod. One after the other works well or you can listen to them at separate times if you prefer. When you’re well on your way to your slimming target, then you can consider changing over to Slimpods such as Keep Weight Loss Going. Don’t be in too much of a hurry to change Slimpods if you feel the first one is working well.

* Join the Facebook Slimpod ClubAs your goal is to make significant lifestyle changes that will help achieve the inch-loss you desire, we recommend you join our private Slimpod Club group on the Thinking Slimmer Facebook page. You’ll be able to share your progress or get support from fellow Slimpodders.

* Keep listening for as oftenand as long as it takesKeep listening to your Slimpod daily until you feel confident you’re well on the way to achieving your goals. How long this takes depends on how much weight you want to lose. We recommend you use the Slimpod daily for a minimum of 42 days and then you’ll be able to decide how much longer you need to listen to it. Looser clothes and how you feel are the most reliable guide. Weight takes years to put on so it won’t suddenly disappear overnight!

* If you stop noticing changes...After a while the changes the Slimpod is making become “normal” behaviour – like your old behaviour used to be – so you may stop noticing further differences. You may even start thinking the Slimpod isn’t working. If this happens it’s important to keep listening because the Slimpod really is continuing to work in the background, reinforcing and building upon all the changes to make them permanent.

I know many people get very excited when they start their Slimpods and can’t wait to jump on the scales and see how they’re doing.

Because Thinking Slimmer is an alternative to dieting you’ll find yourself thinking differently about food. You’ll want to eat less, you’ll eat more healthily and you’ll probably find you want to do more exercise.

As your body changes it’s important to avoid the scales as a way of measuring your progress because they aren’t an accurate reflection of your success (see my campaign on the website called Scrap The Scales). Slimpods work from the inside out and the first thing you may start noticing is that your clothes feel looser. That’s why we create Slimpods to achieve goals, like dropping dress or jeans sizes, not to achieve specific targets such as “lose a stone.”

What are the signs the Slimpod’s starting to work? Well, many people notice their clothes are starting to fit better and their shape is changing. Please be patient: doing this properly takes time. Many people expect to lose lots of weight in a few weeks when they’ve been putting it on for years! That’s probably unrealistic, isn’t it.

I want you to promise you’ll keep listening to your Slimpod for as long and as often as it takes until you feel confident you’re well on the way to achieving your goal. How long this takes depends on many things because everyone is different.

Remember the best thing you can do is regularly measure your bust, waist, hips, arms and thighs and see how they are gradually shrinking as your body shape changes. Feel how much better your clothes fit. You will know from how much less you are eating and how much better you look and feel that the Slimpod is working.

The Thinking Slimmer experience is totally different from any other weight loss method because there’s no diet to follow, no willpower required, no calorie counting. It’s simple and it’s easy. As you listen to my voice every day your Slimpod will gently retune your mind and adjust the way you see food and exercise.

So you’ll be able to get on with enjoying your life while your mind gets on with losing

the weight. Everyone wants to lose weight quickly but it’s not a race. What we want you to achieve is permanent weight loss. Some of our slimmers start to lose weight almost immediately, while others take several weeks to start the process. Everyone’s different.

Our experience is that some people do lose a few pounds in the early days but it is after four to five weeks that the real weight loss starts for most. What you lose or don’t lose isn’t important; what’s important is that your body and your lifestyle are changing. What you probably WILL notice early on is a series of surprising differences in how much less you want to eat and how much more you want to do.

One of the key things to recognise in the Thinking Slimmer approach is that you becoming slimmer is inevitable.

It is going to happen, so it doesn’t have to be a pressurised race to get to your target. Every day, doing more that takes you towards your target than takes you away from it is victory.

Some days you’ll be pretty close to perfect, and other days you won’t, but as long as each day you do something more than nothing then you’re still moving forward.

I’m thrilled that Thinking Slimmer has so far been able to help thousands of people like you to make a real difference to their lives and boost their confidence and self-esteem.

Our three Golden Rules

Listen to your Slimpod!

Sounds daft, doesn’t it, but some people stop listening. You must keep listening because the constant repetition of the special language we use is what causes the changes to take place in your brain.

This will take time, of course, because your brain has been conditioned by years of unhelpful thinking about food which has created the bad eating habits you now want to break.

When we tell you to start by listening to your Slimpod for 21 days in a row this is the minimum time to enable the changes to BEGIN to take effect.

To help these vital changes to become permanent will obviously take longer. The more familiar you become with what your Slimpod says to you, the more powerful and lasting its effect will be.

Everyone is different and many people say they notice changes in their eating habits in the first three weeks with weight loss gradually following in the weeks after that. Be patient. It’s not a race. Just relax and let the Slimpod do its work for you.

Do your daily success log!

It’s vital that you write down each day the differences you notice in your behaviour and the way you feel. This is for two reasons: Firstly, some of the changes can happen without

you even knowing it and it’s only by making yourself think and write things down that some differences will occur to you. Note down even the smallest changes you have noticed in your attitude to food, exercise and your lifestyle. It may be something small such as “left a potato on my plate” or “walked to the shops instead of driving” but all these little positive differences add up to bigger ones.

Secondly, by writing the changes down each day you bring them to the attention of your subconcious and you’re constantly reminding it that it is taking the right steps to help you achieve your goals. Your Slimpod is slowly helping you to create a positive view of the world (we call it your positive reality tunnel) and every time you write down the good things that are happening to you, your brain is creating positive expectancy.

What’s that? Well, to put it simply: What you think about is what you get in life. We tend to

The key to success

be what we pay most attention to. So if you pay attention to the positive things that are happening to you you’ll get more of them. If you focus on what stays the same, you’ll stay the same. Whether you’re experiencing small changes or big changes doesn’t matter. What matters is that changes are happening. Writing them in your success log primes your brain for what you want it to achieve the next day.

Set your goals properly!

Our brains need targets. This is because your subconscious mind, which is enormously powerful, is designed like a guided missile system and is

constantly seeking targets to aim at and hit.

Your subconscious works non-stop, 24 hours a day, whether you’re awake or asleep. Its main functions are to keep you well and healthy and to serve your every need.

Together your conscious thinking mind and your unconscious autopilot mind form a unique

partnership. It may help if you imagine your brain to be like a ship.

Your conscious mind is the captain and has responsibility for setting the direction and giving the orders. Your unconscious mind is the crew that carries out the captain’s commands.

The main way your captain communicates with his crew is through your thoughts. Every thought is a goal or command for your subconscious to obey. The goals you repeat most often, and those connected to the strongest emotions, become the priority commands that your subconscious obeys.

Goal-setting secretsGOALS work. So here’s what we suggest. Below we’re going to ask you to set three realistic goals. Make at least one a goal that has you doing something that becoming slimmer will help you to enjoy more - learning something new, setting yourself a challenge (especially a physical one) or revisiting something you used to love that you’ve stopped doing. Something that you do, rather than something that you can own.

Break your goals down. Have a large one – ‘I am losing three inches off my waist in 12 weeks’. Note how we’ve been specific, both about quantity and timescale. That works better than just saying ‘I want to lose some weight this year’. Make it achievable and realistic – “I want to lose four inches this week” isn’t either of those. Then work stepping stone goals backwards towards now. “By eight weeks I am losing lost two inches”, “By four weeks I am losing one inch” etc. Work these all the way back to “What I’m doing today so I’m achieving my end of week target.”

Our brains tend to like things ahead of us to aim at, and the closer the better. It’s why often the goal of a cream cake in the next 30 seconds seems more desirable than fitting into your jeans in three months’ time. So it’s important, if the jeans are your goal, to make sure you have plenty of smaller steps along the way – and you’re making the rules, so if you want a goal that gets you from breakfast to lunch, then that’s perfectly ok. A goal of having a small piece of chocolate at lunch may stop you wolfing a whole bar at elevenses, because if the brain knows the treat is out there in the foreseeable future it stops craving for it.

My three realistic goals are:

There are THREE SECRETS which can double your chances of reaching the goals you set. They’re very simple and yet are proven to make a huge difference. One is to write them down. You’ve already done that so you’re halfway there. The second is to make them public.

You can do this in lots of ways - a plane flying over your neighbourhood trailing them behind you, an ad in your local paper, the town crier outside Asda - but the easiest way is to post the contract on the next page on your fridge or your office wall. Cut it out. Fill it in. Sign It. Post it up. Finally tell fellow Slimpodders about your goals on our forum or on our Facebook Slimpod Club page. You’ve just got yourself halfway slim - and the rest of the way is just as easy.

Create a goal map

YEARS of experience in helping people to achieve the best from their lives have taught me how crucial it is to set the right goals at the very start. And it’s vital to set them in a way which will harness the full power of both sides of your brain.

Let me explain what I mean: Scientists discovered long ago that the left side of the brain is about logic and words, and the right side is about feelings and pictures. Personal success logReading through and completing your success log each day just before you listen to your Slimpod will accelerate weight loss by bringing to the attention of your unconscious mind the positive differences it is already making. Sometimes the changes might be huge, sometimes they might seem small, or even trivial. It doesn’t matter – what matters is that changes are happening. Writing them down has a magical effect.
