Proper useThe unit is suitable for recording images in digital format.Do not operate the camera either in extreme heat or extreme cold.The unit is not suitable for operation under extreme conditions.The device is intended for private use only and is not designed to be used in a heavy industrial business or.

Safety instructions

General• This unit is not intended for use by people (including children)

with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or for those without experience and/or knowledge, unless they are super-vised by a person responsible for their safety or they have been instructed on its use. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

• Keep the battery out of reach of children.

DANGER!Keep the plastic packaging out of reach for chil-dren to avoid danger of suffocation!

Preventing electric shocks• Never open the camcorder casing or the charger cradle except

to insert the battery.• Connect the charger cradle to a professionally installed 230 V ~

50 Hz mains socket.• To remove the mains cable quickly and easily from the mains in

an emergency, the socket must be easily accessible and close to the appliance.

• Do not bend or crush the mains cable.• Use only the charger cable supplied.• Take measures to prevent moisture or liquid from penetrating

the camcorder or the charger cradle.• Never touch the charger cradle with wet hands.• Never use the charger cradle if the mains cable is damaged.• To avoid any danger, if the charger cradle or its mains cable are

damaged then it must only be replaced by a charger cradle of the same type. Please contact the service centre if this is the case.

• Switch the camcorder off immediately if it malfunctions.• Do not allow the camcorder or charger cradle to come into

contact with rain or be splashed by water.• Do not place containers containing liquid, e.g. vases, on the

appliance, the charger cradle or near to these and protect all parts of the device from rain and water. The container may tip over and the liquid may impair the electrical safety of the prod-uct.

Risk of explosion• Never expose batteries or rechargeable batteries to excessive

heat (such as direct sunlight, fire or similar).• Do not throw batteries into a fire.• Never short-circuit any (rechargeable) batteries.• Do not dismantle (rechargeable) batteries.

DANGER!There is a risk of explosion if rechargeable batter-ies are replaced incorrectly. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.

Preventing fire hazards• Always uncoil the entire length of the mains cable.• Ensure there is adequate ventilation and never cover the charg-

er cradle.• Do not place naked flames such as lit candles on or near the

unit.

Risk of chemical burns• If the battery is depleted, remove it from the device immediate-

ly. There is an increased risk of leakage. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and mucous membranes. If these areas come into contact with battery acid, rinse them immediately with plenty of clean water and contact a doctor immediately.

Preventing damage to the eyes• Do not use the LED light close to anyone’s eyes.• Always maintain a minimum distance of one metre when using

the LED light, especially with small children.

Preventing damage to the camcorder• If the battery is leaking, remove it from the camcorder immedi-

ately. Clean the contacts before inserting a new battery.• Use only the lithium-ion battery supplied.• Before inserting the battery, check that the contacts in the cam-

corder and on the batteries are clean. Clean the battery con-nections if necessary with a clean, dry cloth or an eraser.

• Do not touch the lens or lens mounting.

Preventi ng damage to the battery• Never insert the battery the wrong way round. Always ensure

the correct polarity at the +/- terminals.• Never allow the battery to come into contact with liquids.• Direct, intense heat can damage the battery. Therefore, do not

expose the camcorder to any sources of direct heat.• If the camcorder is not going to be used for long periods, re-

move the battery.• At low temperatures the capacity of the battery can drop sig-

nificantly due to the reduced speed of the chemical reactions. When recording in cold weather keep a second battery pack in reserve in a warm place (e.g. trouser pocket).

Preventing breakages• Do not drop the camcorder.• Place the strap around your wrist when carrying the camcord-

er.

Preventing data loss• Never interrupt the power supply when data are being proc-

essed.• Never remove the SD card from the camcorder while it is sav-

ing data.

Protecting against condensation• Avoid rapid changes in temperature.• Place the camcorder in its protective case or a plastic bag be-

fore exposing it to any sudden changes in temperature.• Do not immediately connect the charger cradle using the mains

cable if the cradle has been moved from a cold environment to a warm room. The device can safely be connected for charging as soon as the unit has reached room temperature.

• Do not use or store the camcorder in direct sunlight or at high temperatures .

In the event of a malfunction• If, as a result of an unforeseeable combination of operating

steps, faulty data transfer or electrostatic discharge, the cam-corder can no longer be operated, remove the inserted battery, replace it and then switch on the camcorder again.

The Camcorder

Equipment descriptionThe camcorder provides:• The functions of a digital camcorder and a digital camera in

one handy device.• Instead of a viewfinder, the camcorder has a high-resolution

touch screen LC display that enables you to check your pic-tures. The touch screen LC display also serves to display the on-screen menus where you can select your required settings.

• The touch screen LC display can be used to change all cam-corder settings at the touch of a finger.

• The Camcorder has four-times digital zoom and records videos to a maximum resolution of Full HD 1920 x 1080 and photos in 2592 x 1944 (5M pixels).

• The internal memory has a usable capacity of approx. 80 MB. Thus you can also take photos or record short videos even if you do not have an SD card in the camcorder.

• The camcorder can be easily connected to a computer by USB or to a compatible TV set by HDMI connection.

Getting started

Insert batteryTo insert the battery you must open the display flap and remove the battery cover.• Open the display flap.

• Slide the battery compartment shutter as shown and insert the

battery.

• Replace the battery compartment cover as shown to close the battery compartment.

ATTENTION!Ensure the +/- terminals are correct.

• To remove the battery, remove the cover• Lift the battery using the nylon strap and take it out.

Insert SD memory card• To insert an SD memory card you must open the SD compart-

ment cover.

• Take an SD memory card and slide this into the SD card slot which is behind the macro switch on the camcorder. Close the SD compartment cover.

ATTENTION!Ensure that the contacts on the card are facing down-wards.

• To remove the memory card, press the memory card until you hear a click in the slot and then let go. The memory card will be automatically ejected a little from the slot so that you can re-move the card.

Charging the battery To charge the battery, connect the camcorder battery to the

supplied charging cradle. Plug the mains adapter into a 230 V ~ 50 Hz socket and insert

the battery. When the battery is fully charged the green LED will come on.

NOTE!The battery requires approximately six hours to reach full charge for the first time. The LED is lit orange dur-ing the charging procedure. The LED will light up green as soon as the charging process is complete.Tips for proper use of batteries can be found in the (safety instructions / Preventing damage to the bat-tery).

The camcorder enables you to charge the battery while it is in the device.

To do this, simply connect the camcorder to a PC via the USB cable. When switched off the camcorder will now begin to re-charge the battery. The Power LED is lid red during the charg-ing procedure.

NOTE!The PC must remain operational.

Switching the camcorder

on and off To activate the camcorder, open the display panel as shown be-

low.

Turn the display panel so that you can easily see the 3.0” LCD display.

To turn the camcorder off, either simply fold the display panel back to its original position or press the On/Off switch until the LED turns off.

Take care to turn off the device after use to avoid using power unnecessarily.

NOTE!The operational LED lights up green when the cam-corder is activated.

The settings menuTo open the settings menu, press the mode selection button twice.

In the settings menu there are eight further sub-menus represent-ed by appropriate symbols.

Here you can select the following settings:• Beep• Date & Time• Auto Power Off• TV standard• TV frequency• Language• Default• Format

To select a menu, press the Up/Down buttons until the re-quired menu is in the highlighted dark area.

To open the required menu, press the OK button. Touch the desired menu with a finger to open it directly.

Operating the settings menuTo change the individual settings you can either use the Up/Down buttons or change the settings directly using a finger.

Tones

Here you can turn the camcorder’s operating tones On or Off To turn off the camcorder’s operating tones press the UP /DOWN buttons until is highlighted. To confirm the selec-tion press the OK button.

To turn on the camcorder’s operating tones press the UP /DOWN buttons until is highlighted. To confirm the selec-tion press the OK button.

Date & Time

Here you can set the date and time. Press the field that you wish to change. Now press the UP /DOWN buttons to enter the desired data.

Simply press the next field to switch between the individual en-try fields for year/month/day/time.

Press the OK button to save the settings.

Auto Power Off

Here you can set the energy saving mode. The camcorder can be set to switch off after either a period of 1 minute or 5 minutes.

Press the UP /DOWN buttons until the desired setting is high-lighted and press OK .

To turn off the camcorder’s energy saving mode press the UP /DOWN buttons until is highlighted.

TV output

Here you can set the camcorder’s output signal for your TV. The camcorder supports the NTSC and PAL formats.

Formatting

Here you can format the inserted memory card or the internal memory if no memory card has been inserted.


ATTENTION!Loss of data possible.If you format the memory all of the data stored there will be deleted.Ensure that no important data is still in the memory or on the SD card.

Reset camcorder

Here you can reset the camcorder to the factory settings. Press the UP /DOWN buttons until the desired setting is high-

lighted and press OK .

Recording videosProceed as follows in order to record videos:

Lift the LC display flap. Choose the desired picture detail. Press the shutter-release button Using the UP /DOWN buttons, will set the digital zoom.

NOTE!The digital zoom can only be used with a resolution of max. 720P.

Amongst other things, the time will be shown on the LC display during recording (hours:minutes:seconds) and the operational LED blinks green/red.

Press the shutter-release button again to stop recording. Press the ENTER button to activate the LED lighting. Press the ENTER button again to deactivate the LED lighting.

NOTE!The camcorder can only record videos with a file size up to 3.66 GB. If the file volume is exceeded then the camcorder will save the file separately.

While recording a video, the camcorder will show you all of the im-portant information on the LC display.The following symbols may be displayed when recording a video.

Video mode menuIn the “video mode” menu you can select settings to operate the camcorder. You can select the following settings:• White balance• Resolution• Effect• Night mode• Quality

White balance

The camcorder sets the white balance automatically. If you never-theless still notice a colour imbalance on the LC display while re-cording a video then adjust the white balance setting. Then contin-ue recording.The following settings are available:

Daylight For filming in daylight.Cloudy For filming in diffuse daylight.

The camcorder allows you to personally set the quality of your vid-eos/pictures.The quality differs according to the relevant compression of the files. Files of better quality require more storage capacity than files with a normal level of quality.

Changing the mode of operationAfter start-up, the camcorder is in recording mode. You can start taking photos or videos immediately.

Press the Playback button to change from recording mode to playback mode.

Press the Playback button again to change back from playback mode to recording mode.

Video playbackThere are different options for viewing the video recordings saved in the internal memory or on the optional memory card.

Press the Playback button in the previously selected mode (vid-eo or photo) to activate the video playback menu.

Playback on the LC displayProceed as follows to view the video recordings on the camcord-er’s LC display:

Press the Playback button in video mode The main menu for the video playback mode will appear. Press OK to start the playback. Press OK once to stop playback. Press the / buttons on the touch screen to for-

ward or rewind the video. Press on the touch screen to pause the video.

Video playback on a TV setProceed as follows to view the videos on a television set:

Connect the supplied AV cable to the AV output of your cam-corder.

Connect the white and yellow plug on the AV cable to the cor-responding sockets on the television set.

Switch the television set on. The camcorder’s LC display switches off.

The video will be displayed on the TV set.

NOTE!As long as the camcorder is connected to a TV set, the LC display is switched off.If you have recorded images in HD format, use the HDMI cable to connect your camcorder to your TV set (if it has a digital input) to view your HD-format photos and recordings at a high resolution.

Delete individual videos

Proceed as follows to delete individual videos: Press the / buttons on the touch screen to select the

videos you want to delete. Press the Wastebasket Symbol to delete the videos displayed. Press on the touch screen to leave the menu.

NOTE!If a memory card is inserted you can delete only the videos on the memory card.If the memory card is locked you cannot delete the vid-eos on the memory card.If the videos you wish to delete are protected you will have to unlock them before deletion.ATTENTION!Loss of data possible.Ensure that no important data is still in the memory or on the SD card.

Delete All

Press “ ” to delete all of the saved videos. Press Cancel to leave the menu and confirm by pressing OK .

Protect function

This function enables you to protect individual videos or all videos from accidental deletion.

Press the / buttons on the touch screen to select the videos you want to protect.

Press “ ” to protect the videos displayed. Press on the touch screen to leave the menu.

Volume

Using this function you can set the playback volume of the record-ed videos.

Select the desired volume by directly touching the screen with your finger or by pressing the UP /DOWN buttons and then confirm the selection by pressing OK .

Press on the touch screen to leave the menu.

Thumbnail overview

This function provides you with a more rapid overview of the vide-os stored in the memory.

Press on the video playback display to enter the thumb-nail overview.

Select the desired video by directly touching it with your finger or by pressing the UP /DOWN buttons and then confirm the selection by pressing OK .

Press the / buttons to switch between the different pages.

Press OK to leave the menu.

Shooting photosProceed as follows in order to shoot photos:

Lift the LC display flap. Select photo mode by pressing the Mode selection button. Select the desired picture detail. To change the exposure value touch the / buttons. Press the shutter-release button.

NOTE!To shoot close-up photos, activate the macro function. To do this slide the macro switch to the macro posi-tion .

The self-timer allows you to take photographs with a time delay. If for example you want to appear on a photograph yourself, you can use the self-timer. You are able to select between a 5 and 10 second time delay.

Photo playback on a TV setProceed as follows to view the photos on a television set:

Connect the supplied AV cable to the AV output of your cam-corder.

Connect the white and yellow plug on the AV cable to the cor-responding sockets on the television set.

Switch the television set on. The camcorder’s LC display switches off.

The photos will be displayed on the TV set.

NOTE!As long as the camcorder is connected to a TV set, the LC display is switched off.Connect your camcorder using a HDMI cable to your TV set with a digital connection to view your videos re-corded in HD format.

Slide show

This function provides you with a more rapid overview of the pho-tos stored in the memory.

Select the desired photo by directly touching it with your finger or by pressing the UP /DOWN buttons and then confirm the selection by pressing OK .

Press the / buttons to switch between the different pages.

Connecting camcorder to TV setTo view photos and videos on a television set, proceed as follows:

Connect the USB/AV cable to the USB port of the camcorder.

Connect the white and yellow plugs of the USB/AV cable to the corresponding sockets on the television set.

Switch on the television set. The camcorder’s LCD screen switches

off. The photos will be displayed on the TV

set.

NOTE!As long as the camcorder is connected to a television set, the LCD screen is switched off.

Connection via HDMITo view recorded videos in HD, connect the camcorder with the HDMI cable to the digit-al port of your television set.

Connecting camcorder to computerYou can copy your pictures and videos to a computer.

Connect the mini USB plug of the USB/AV cable to the camcorder and connect the other end of the cable to a free USB port on your computer.

Switch on the camcorder so that the sys-tem can automatically detect the type of connected storage device.

Installing the softwareThe enclosed CD contains the driver files and the ArcSoft Total Me-dia software, which allows you to edit your pictures and video files.

Insert the CD in the CD drive of your computer. Normally, the CD is automatically recognised and its contents

are displayed on the screen. If this is not the case, select the CD drive in Windows Explorer > My Computer and double-click the drive name to start the CD.

The start page shows an overview of the contents of the CD. To install the software, double-click the TOTAL MEDIA HD-

CAM.EXE icon. To install the software, follow the on-screen instructions. For more detailed information regarding the operation of the

software, refer to the enclosed quick guide for ArcSoft Total Media or use the help system by pressing F1 .

DCF memory standardThe files on your camcorder are managed (saved, named, etc.) as specified by the DCF standard (DCF = Design Rule for Camera File System). You can also use your camcorder to view files stored on memory cards from other DCF cameras.Card driveIf your PC is equipped with a card drive or is connected to a card read-er and you have saved your pictures and video clips on the memory card, you can of course use just the card to copy the files to your PC.

InstallationHow to install the Total Media™ HDCam:

Connect your device to your desktop or notebook PC. Insert the installation CD in the DVD/CD drive. The CD starts automatically. Follow the instructions to complete the installation.

If the CD does not execute automatically follow the steps below to install the software:

Double-click on Workstation. Move the cursor to the DVD/CD drive. Right-click and then click Open. Double-click Total Media HDCam.exe. A wizard appears and guides you through the installation. Follow the instructions to complete the installation.

How to uninstallHow to install the Total Media™ HDCam:

Click on Start > Programs > ArcSoft Total Media HDCam > Uninstall.

A wizard appears and guides you through the uninstallation. Follow the instructions to complete the uninstallation.

LanguageHow to change the language of the user interface after installation:

Display modesThere is a choice of three display modes to display the media files: Library view, calendar view and search view.

Note!To view the media files on your device in the library or calendar view, you must first import the files.

Library viewThe library view lists the „Own Creation“ folder and other folders that are created when importing the files.

How to switch to library view

To extend the library window click on Librar-ies.

Select the desired folder. To switch to the library view click on View or edit the properties of a folder by se-

lecting the folder and clicking . To delete a folder click on the icon of the

relevant folder.

Calendar viewThe calendar view uses the creation date of the files to arrange the media files.

How to switch to calendar view

To extend the calendar window click on Li-braries.

Select the desired folder. Select the desired files. Click on Import. The „Import“ win-

dow is displayed. Select Import new scenes, Im-

port selected scenes or Import all scenes.

Select a folder name or enter one. To import the files click on OK.

Cut video clipsHow to cut video clips

Click file link. The work area is dis-played.

Move the desired video clips to the work area using drag-and-drop.

Double-click to open the preview and edit the clips.

To cut the clips click on Continue. Select the device and the path under

which the cut clip is to be saved.

Burning AVCHD disksHow to burn AVCHD disks

Click on Create AVCHD. The work area is displayed.

Move the desired video clips to the work area using drag-and-drop.

Double-click the relevant image to open the preview of an image in a new window.

burn the AVCHD disk or the path to save the files on your computer.
