cannot be fulfilled except by (possessing) it (i.e. knowledge and

skill), its acquisition is (therefore) obligatory (waajib).”

In my experience with educating adult Muslims regarding their DEEN,

there are quite a number of confusion, which may need to be addressed

and clarified. If we do not correct this in people who are in the position

to teach our children, great harm may occur.

Even some Islamic terms we commonly used may already be wrongly

understood and thus misapplied – exacerbating further the confusion.

Some pertinent examples of these confusion are :

ILMU- UKHRAWI – as referring to Islamic religious knowledge;

SECULAR knowledge – as though referring to every worldly knowledge

other than from Islam’s primary sources;

FARDHU ‘AIN - only pertains to knowing about Rukun Islam and Iman;

The worldview held by many of us may have already been tainted by

other philosophy, ideology or sub-culture and we know we need to

“Islamise” it. This is vital in matters dealing with the education of

Muslims.

Yet, it cannot be done merely by “fusing”, or “grafting” the Islamic

components upon what has been developed from worldview based upon

concepts or philosophy from others, some of which may be opposed to

Islamic values. Unless such anomalies are addressed, the exercise to add

Islamic components would be mere ‘cosmetic ’ Islamization.

As Muslim educators, we need to understand terms and concepts from

the Islamic perspective or worldview (TASAWWUR ISLAM).All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail 2012))

Remember, Islam teaches that the success of our education is not

merely in Muslims being knowledgeable but requires that such

knowledge must transform their disposition (AKHLAQ) with noble

virtues leading to TAQWA - the raison d'être of our Prophet’s mission

And Allah s.w.t. clearly asserts what the true value system as to who

is noble amongst mankind, should be based upon what He deems to be

noble.

So, as Muslims, we must not be distracted and deviate into blindly

imitating others. Allah s.w.t. says:

““Verily, the noblest of you in the sight of Allah is the one Verily, the noblest of you in the sight of Allah is the one

who is most deeply conscious of Him (who is most deeply conscious of Him (TAQWATAQWA). Behold, Allah ). Behold, Allah
