ABSTRACT

This report presents the following :

•Hybrid energy system connected with DC Smart

grid

•Which is inturn connected with DC fuel charging

station and AC loads through Multilevel inverter

• The aim is to provide efficient Renewable energy

through DC Smart grids and also AC power though

Multilevel inverters (MLI) and bidirectional flow of

power

The paper also provides :

•An Energy Management System to improve the

efficiency of the system and for better monitoring

HYBRID ENERGY•A hybrid energy system usually consists of two or

more renewable energy sources used together.

•It provides increased system efficiency as well as

greater balance in energy supply for longer life than

the non renewable fuels.

WIND ENERGY• Wind energy has great potential for combating

climatic change, ensuring clean and efficientenergy.

The wind energy system

consists of :

• Wind Turbine

• Synchronous

generator

• Power electronic

converters

SOLAR ENERGY• A solar cell (photovoltaic cell) is an electrical

device that converts the energy of light directlyinto electricity by the photovoltaic effect.

Operations of PV cell:

•The absorption of light,

generating electron-

hole pairs

•The separation of charge

carriers of opposite types.

•The separate extraction

of those carriers to an

external circuit.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES• An electric vehicle (EV), also referred to as

an electric drive vehicle, uses one or more electric

motors or traction motors for propulsion.

Three types of electric vehicles:

• Directly powered from an external power station

•Powered by stored electricity originally from an

external power source

•Powered by an on-board electrical generator, such

as an internal combustion engine (hybrid electric

vehicles) or a hydrogen fuel cell.

SMART GRID

• A smart grid is a modernized electrical grid that

uses analogue or digital information and

communications technology to gather and act on

information, such as information about the

behaviors of suppliers and consumers, in an

automated fashion to improve the efficiency,

reliability, economics, and sustainability of the

production and distribution of electricity.

CASCADED H-BRIDGE

MULTILEVEL INVERTER

• The term multilevel began with the three-levelconverter.

• It is used to obtain pure sinusoidal in staircasewave form.

• In a multilevel waveform, the ac output of each ofthe different level H-bridge cells is connected inseries.

• The synthesized voltage waveformis, therefore, the sum of the inverter outputs.

• The number of output phase voltage levels in acascaded inverter is defined by

m = 2s +1

where s is the number of dc sources.

FUTURE SCOPE

• It can implement in grid system, real time

application.

• Various other MLI’s can be used for better AC

output.

• Future technologies can be adapted for better

monitoring (like GSM, GPRS based).
