INTRODUCTION- QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

ISO defined the term “quality system” as follows:

The quality systems are the organisational structures, responsibilities, procedures, processes and resources for implementing quality management.

In short, a quality system involves:

1. HOW- methods and process description;

2. WHO- responsibilities and authorities;

3. WHEN- records and evidences;

4. Where- identification and traceability

WHAT IS ISO

The International Organisation for Standardisation was established in 1946 in Geneva, Switzerland.

ISO is an association of National Standard Bodies of more than 150 countries.

ISO is a specialized agency for standardisation. The primary objective is unification and co-ordination of international standard.

ISO employees a system of technical committees, sub-committees and working groups to develop international standards.

ISO works in accordance with an agreed set of rules of procedures.

Bureau of Indian Standards is the national standard body of India represented on ISO.

Other international organisations that develop standards to participate in its work by accepting them as liaison member.

ALL ABOUT ISO 9000 AND ISO 14000

ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 are known as generic management standards.

ISO 9000 is a reference for quality requirements in business to business dealing.

ISO 14000 is reference for the environmental management requirements.
