Executive summary
:.: - " g is a business, which is run on the confidence and trust of people. This confidence
"""" ed by banks and enables the bank to mobilize funds from various sources. The main
_.:: n of bank may broadly be divided into two categories. Firstly, borrowing money from
: _: . c by accepting deposits and secondly, lending the money to public for development of
--==e, commerce, agriculture and industry. The profitability of a bank always depends on the
':: "ent management of fund and exploring the genuine avenues in which its resources are
- ested to produce the maximum income .
.!. :.art from borrowing money and lending others, bank work as a financial institution by
- -ancing to wherever needs to be financed. Structured finance comes as a service that
5= erally involves highly complex financial transactions offered for companies with very unique
- ancing needs. These financing needs usually do not match conventional financial products
.5 ch as a loan.
3 t everything is finally evaluated by the performance of the bank. This is why performance
evaluation of a bank is very crucial in the process of finance. Being a student of Finance, my
'ocus was more on performance appraisal of the bank based on the financial indicators.
Southeast Bank Limited ensures that the amount they financed is given to the right person. For
this, SEBl follows a strict rules and regulation. Financing operation starts from selection of
borrower from field level and ends with disbursing sanctioned amount after proper credit
analysis and documentation. For all these SEBl follows strict regulation which is approved by
the Bangladesh Bank.

ntroduction
- - a e bank derives from the Italian word banco "desk/bench", used during the Renaissance
_ ... entine bankers, who used to make their transactions above a desk covered by a green
- - : oth. However, traces of banking activity can be found even in ancient times.
~ct, the word traces its origins back to the Ancient Roman Empire, where moneylenders
: ... d set up their stalls in the middle of enclosed courtyards called macella on a long bench
:::: ed a bancu, from which the words banco and bank are derived.
=.c" 'ng is known as the backbone of the national economy. Banks play an important role in the
: - iness sector & promoting industrialization & economic development of the country. Banks
: -:)Vide necessary funds for the execution of various programmes underway in the process of
:-.:onomic development. All sorts of economy & financial activities revolve around the bank. As
- e industry produces goods & commodities, bank creates & controls money market &
: romotes formation of capital.
3ank is a powerful medium to bring socio-economic changes in a developing country like
Bangladesh. The three important sectors in Bangladesh like Agriculture, Commerce & Industry
provide the bulk of the country's wealth. So the nourishment of these sectors is only possible
:hrough satisfactory banking facility.
Basically, Bank collects deposit from the customers at a lower rate of interest & lends it to the
borrowers at a higher rate of interest considering the cost of fund. The spread amount indicates
the operating profit of a bank. Banks provide different services and credits to the customers.
The customer comes from all walks of life, from a small business to a multi-national corporation
having its business activities all around the worlds. The bank has to satisfy the requirements of
different customers belonging to various social groups. The banking business has therefore
become complex & requires specialized skills. It functions as an agent for bringing about
economic, industrial growth, & prosperity of the country. As a result different types of bank
with various services have come in to existence to suit specific requirements.

my internship program in Southeast Bank limited & I worked in the Gulshan Branch
y report is fully based on the performance evaluation of Gulshan Branch only. But to
: :--are this report I face little difficulties through I also get some limitation which are:
• Sufficient records & publications as well as up to date information are not readily

confidentiality.
• During my internship period J did not have that much time to visit other branches to
collect more data & take interview to the officers & executives of the bank because they
are very much busy with their day to day activities.
• Time duration of my internship period is not sufficient enough to prepare my report the
best one but where I tried my best to make it the effective report.
• Another limitation of this report is that the Bank's policy of not to disclose some data &
information for obvious reason, which could be much more useful.
spite of these limitations sincere efforts have been made to fulfill the findings & objectives of
-- is report an effective one.

Conclusions
Though it is difficult to conclude in a subjective way, about a performance of a financia l
institutions like a commercial bank. Again it is more difficult to evaluate the performance of a
wing or branch out of Global operat~on as all the financial indicators cannot be determined
individually for a branch of a organization. As a result, evaluation becomes narrower.
As a result it was easier to show the global performance of southeast bank limited than to show
the comparative evaluation of Gulshan Branch. As a subject matter of my report and being the
Intern in the Gulshan Branch of Southeast Bank Limited I had taken much of the performance
evaluative indicators to show the comparative study of Gulshan Branch.
Out of 76 branches of Southeast Bank limited, Gulshan Branch is one of the oldest which
started it's journey in 1997 as 4th branch of the bank. Being located in a elite location of the
Capital and being one of the oldest branch as well performance of Gulshan Branch has always
been more than satisfactory.
A huge part of global performance is contributed by the Gulshan Branch as seen while the
evaluation was shown in financial figures.
