Conclusion

As thermal radiance is the most important source of heat transfer, reflectiveinsulation is the most efficient way to reduce heat transfer to obtain a higher level ofcomfort by reflecting the heat.

What is a roofunderlayment ?

Protect from water, snow, dust and sootinfiltration

Re conduct the infiltrated water due tocondensation or infiltration to gutter

Protects the roof structure until the roof coveris definitely installed.

Prevent the upheaval of the roofs elements

under the wind effect by counterbalancingpressures.

Assure air tightness of the roof in order toprevent cold air infiltration and keep warm airinside.

A roof underlayment has the following functions :

Two different kinds of roof underlayment : Breathable and non breathable :

6

HVP = High Vapor Permeability

SKYTECH system

An Insulating, Breathable, waterproofand airproof barrier.

Because Skytech is highly breathable, it canbe use to seal completely your attic without

condensation risk.

Your house can be completely sealed forexcellent thermal performances.

As it is breathable SKYTECH®  will notpromote condensation which leads to theapparition of moisture and seriouslydecrease your roof structure life.

Advises

 PROTECT YOUR EYES!

SKYTECH®  is highly reflective. Wheninstalling it outside, you should wearsunglasses to protect your eyes.

 INSTALLATION

SKYTECH® can be use with any type of roofcover (metal, tiles, slates…) for new andrefurbishment projects. Because of its fireproperties, SKYTECH®  can also be use toupgrade fire performance of roofs in fireexposed areas.

SKYTECH®  can be use with any type ofbuilding in any climate.

SKYTECH®  must be laid tightly on the roofelements without ventilation of the insidefacing of the underlayment.

Installation direction The SKYTECH face with the black line (tissueface aspect) should be oriented towards theexterior.

Adhesive aluminium tapeREFLEXBOND. The fire rating Euroclass A2-s1, d0 can onlybe guaranteed with the use of REFLEXBONDaluminium tape.

The REFLEXBOND tape must be applied ondry and clean surface (without dust, oil,grease...) . It is very important to apply asufficient pressure on the tape and to applyREFLEXBOND under temperatures superiorto 5°C.

Temporary water protection The composition and technical characteristicsof SKYTECH®  in addition with the use ofREFLEXBOND®  can contribute to atemporary water protection in normal weather

conditions during 8 days.

Distance between rafters The high breaking strength of SKYTECH® allowed using it with a

maximum distance between rafters of 90 cm / 35 inches.

FixationsInstallation should be done the same way as the one used to fixroofing materials (battens and counter battens). However, when temporarily install, SKYTECH®  should be fixusing staples or screws.

Oxidation In order to prevent oxidation, do not install Skytech in directcontact with copper, brass or lead.

Overlap of panelsThe minimum overlapping of panels considering the slope of theroof can be found in the following board.

Roofslope

Low slope Steep slope

Aplication in mountain climate

See page 25.

 Solar panel

Solar panel should be considered as a roof cover element andtherefore should be applied following main installation process.

Air gap on outside facing of SKYTECH ®

Because SKYTECH®  is highly reflective; theair gap between the roof cover and the roofunderlayment should be at least:

1.5 inches for roof fields shorter or equal to

26 foot.

2.3 inches for roof fields exceeding 26 footin length.

Air gap on inside facing of SKYTECH ®

The air gap located under SKYTECH®  (insidefacing) should not be ventilated.

It should be at least 0.8 inches betweenexisting insulation and SKYTECH®. It allowsSKYTECH®  to be more efficient in a thermalway.

The high permeability to vapor of SKYTECH® allows installation directly on existinginsulation or on sheathing (continuoussupport.

For better thermal performances, we stronglyadvise to keep this non ventilated air gap.

The study of this comparativecurve makes it possible toshow that SKYTECH  has athermal behaviour similar to aglass wool of approximately240 mm thickness. So anequivalence (Re) and (Ue) of :Re = 6 m² .K/Wor Ue = 0.16 W/m² .K

However, this tests arerealized under laboratoriesconditions that can differ fromreal conditions dipending onthe type and the quality of theinstallation. This is the samewhatever insulation product istested.
