    Skybridge is a broadband satellitesystem designed by Alcatel for datatransfer.

    The space segment is composed of aconstellation of 80 LEO satellites plusspares each with 20 planes, eachplane containing 4 satellites. All 80satellites are in a circular orbit at analtitude of 1,469 km, with an

    The uplink is allotted a spectrumbetween 12.75 and 14.5 GHz andwith data rate 2 Mbps.The downlink is allotted a spectrum

    between 10.7 and 12.75 GHz and

    with data rate 20 Mbps.Both the uplink and downlink trafficwill use at least 1.05 GHz of spectrum

    in both directions.

    SkyBridge is intending to use bothGEOs and LEOs within their overallnetwork system.LEO constellation will consist of 80satellites and will operate as a bentpipe system, which will receive a

    transmission from a terrestrialterminal, amplify it, change it todownlink and then send the

    transmission back to the Earth to itsdestination.

    The GEO segment will use 2 satellitesand will provide content that is not

    affected by the high latency effect of geosynchronous satellites. This wouldinclude the multicasting of data to largeuser populations which deliver the sameinformation to a group of users using asingle transmit operation saving networkcapacity and reducing serverrequirements.

    A satellite has a 3000 km radiuscoverage divided into fixed spotbeams of 350 km radius. Each user isattached to one and only oneSkyBridge gateway. The traffic to andfrom any of the SkyBridge users willalways be concentrated on thegateway where the user is registered.
