writer, so the writer finished this skripsi entitled “The Listening Ability of the
Seventh Grade Students of MTs N Gembong by Using Upin Ipin Cartoon Movie
Media”. Secondly, peace is upon to our prophet Muhammad SAW who has opened
the darkness covering this world to the lightness.
This skripsi is arranged to fulfill one of the requirements for Sarjana degree of
English Education Department of Muria Kudus University. There are many people

Mendengarkan adalah kemampuan dasar dalam bahasa Inggris untuk siswa.
Mendengarkan menjadi skill yang terpenting diantara empat skill dalam Bahasa
Inggris. Mendengarkan juga merupakan salah satu materi mata pelajaran Bahasa
Inggris di kelas 7 MTs N Gembong. Disana guru Bahasa Inggris jarang mengadakan
kegiatan mendengarkan. Terkadang guru menggunakan metode dekte dan tanpa
media untuk mengajar listening. Hal tersebut berdampak pada nilai siswa dalam
mendengarkan. Kebanyakan nilai siswa dalam mendengarkan di bawah KKM.
Kemampuan mendengarkan mereka masih kurang bagus. Penulis mengggunakan
Film Kartun Upin Ipin untuk memecahkan persoalan tersebut.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan
signifikan antara kemampuan mendengarkan dari siswa kelas 7 MTs N Gembong Pati
pada tahun ajaran 2014/ 2015 sebelum dan setelah diajar menggunakan Film Kartun
Upin Ipin.
Desain dari penelitian ini adalah penelitian quasi eksperimen. Penulis
menggunakan group tunggal dengan pre-test dan post-test. Populasi diambil dari
siswa kelas 7 MTs N Gembong pada tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Penulis menggunakan
teknik cluster random sampling untuk mengambil sampel. Dan penulis mendapatkan
kelas 7D sebagai sampel dengan jumlah siswa 29. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa
soal test pilihan ganda.
Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa post- test tergolong “bagus” dengan
nilai rata-rata 79,46 dan standar deviasi 8,22. lebih tinggi daripada pre-test dengan
nilai rata-rata 61,71 dan standar deviasi 9,84 yang dapat diklasifikasikan “cukup”.
Hipotesis penelitian menyatakan ada perbedaan signifikan antara kemampuan
mendengarkan siswa kelas 7 MTs N Gembong Pati pada tahun ajaran 2014/2015
sebelum dan sesudah diajar menggunakan Film Kartun Upin Ipin. Dari perhitungan t-
test, t-obtained diketahui 10,26 dan t-critical ± 2,048 dengan level signifikan (𝛼) 0.05 dan degree of freedom 28. T-obtained lebih besae dari t-critical. Jadi, penulis
menolak H0 (null hyphotesis) dan menerima H1 ( alternative hypothesis) karena t-
obtained jatuh di wilayah kritis.

Berdasarkan hasil diatas, penulis menyarakan bahwa Film Kartun Upin Ipin
bisa digunakan sebagai media yang efektif dalam listening. Juga bias digunakan
solusi bagi guru Bahasa Inggris sebagai media alternative untuk mengajar listening.

Listening is basic skill in learning English for students. It becomes the most
important skill among the four language skill. Listening is also one of the materials of
English subject in the seventh grade students of MTs N Gembong. There English
teacher seldom conducted listening activity. Sometimes the teacher use dictation
method and no media to teach listening. That gave impact on student’s scores in
listening are below the passing grade. Their listening ability is still not good yet.
Therefore, the writer used Upin Ipin Cartoon Movie to solve those problems.
The purpose of the research is to know whether there is significant difference
between the listening ability of the seventh grade students of MTs Gembong Pati in
academic year 2014/2015 by using Upin Ipin cartoon movie.
The design of the research was quasi experiment research using one group with
pre-test and post-test. The population of the research was the seventh grade students
of MTs N Gembong in the academic year 2014/2015. The writer used cluster random
sampling techniques to take the sample of the research. Based on this technique, the
writer got 7D as the sample with total number of students is 29. The instrument used
by the writer was multiple choices.
The result shows that the post test “good” with the mean was 79.46 and
standard deviation was 8.22. It is higher than the pre-test with the mean was 61.71
and standard deviation was 9.84 can be classified as “sufficient”. The hypothesis of
this research states that there is significant difference between listening ability of the
seventh grade students of MTs N Gembong Pati in the academic year 2014/2015
before and after being taught by using Upin Ipin cartoon movie media. From the
calculation of t-test, the t-obtained was 10.26 and t-critical was ± 2.048 with the level
of significance (𝛼) 0,05 and degree of freedom was 28. The t-obtained is higher than
t-critical. Therefore, the writer reject H0 (null hypothesis) and accepted H1
(alternative hypothesis) because the t-obtained falls in the critical area.

Based on the result, the writer suggests that Upin Ipin Cartoon Movie can be
used as effective listening media. It also can be used as the solution for English
teachers as an alternative media in teaching listening.
