It seems like yesterday that I sat at my desk and penned the winter article forthe newsletter. It is definitely true the older you get the quicker time flies. It is in Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 where we are told that there is a time for everything. In this Information Age I wonder if this still holds true as we seem to be running faster and faster just to stand still. It takes me longer to learn something new, and it takes energy to cope
with change. It would seem that change should be a natural thing as everything changes, the seasons (spring is just around the corner as the snowdrops are out and the daffodils are starting to make their appearance), who we are continually changes, but I have just learned that dealing with change takes a lot of energy, especially as I move towards retirement, (which is not that far off) and the changes that will take place then. Getting back onto the subject of the newsletter. As you know Chris has joined us in the post of Pastoral Assistant, I am enjoying his energy and enthusiasm for both congregations and his willingness to learn about ministry. Chris also has his feet firmly on the ground which comes through his nursing experience and he has a spiritual awareness of what God is calling him to do. May I thank you for the way you have surrounded him with your support and kindness and I know you will grow to love him as he ministers to you? There are a lot of new challenges ahead and it will take energy to face the changes these challenges will bring, but I am confident that we will face them in God’s strength. As Paul writes to the church in Colossians 3:17
Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of theLord Jesus, giving thanks to God.
In this world of change there is one unchanging thing; there is nothing that can separate us from the Love of God shown to us in his Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the one fixed point in our lives that will never change. It is that one point that everything else is referenced to and even when we feel our world is falling apart, then there is something unmoveable and unchanging that we can hold onto and rely on and that is Jesus Christ. This year no matter what we face, we do it in Christ and yes, there is a time for everything, if we do it in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God. As we move towards Easter let us reflect on the time that God has given us, to use it wisely and through the resurrection there is an eternity ahead of us. There is a verse that was added to the hymn Amazing Grace, it was not penned by John Newton but has been passed down orally in African American communities
