    General Information The SwitchKeeper TM Lighting Control Panel is a microcomputer-based controller that manages building lighting circuits according to time-of-day schedules and local switch inputs. The SwitchKeeper operates as a stand-alone device. The SwitchKeeper provides automated control of high-voltage lighting circuits. They switch loads originating from the electrical service panel and terminating at overhead lighting fixtures. The SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software enables a PC to communicate directly with the SwitchKeeper for database programming, editing, and save and restore functions. SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software may communicate remotely with a single SwitchKeeper by adding a modem at the Lighting Control Panel and the PC. A Telephone Interface Module may compliment the system by providing easy override access to any user with a touch-tone phone. Lighting Control Systems

    A contact input photocell can be connected to the switch input of the SwitchKeeper. The photocell will provide the Lighting Controller a contact closure when lighting levels reach a switching threshold.

    Hardware

    SwitchKeeper Inputs Each SwitchKeeper allows up to 32 low-voltage inputs to be used as switches, photocells, and occupancy sensors.

    SwitchKeeper Outputs The SwitchKeeper is available in two enclosure sizes and a number of different relay capacities. Table 1-1 shows the two configurations and the relay capacities. Table 1-1 SwitchKeeper Enclosure Size and Relay Capacities.

    Both the 16-point enclosure and the 32-point enclosure are designed to physically separate the low-voltage inputs from the high-voltage outputs. The high-voltage connections to the power circuits are made on the back plane of the enclosure, which is then protected with a cover. The low-voltage connections are made to the logic board.

    SwitchKeeper Accessories

    Lighted Switch Card A Lighted Switch Card can be used to accommodate up to 32 pilot light switch inputs.

    Relay Expansion Card An 8-point Relay Expansion Card can be used to expand an existing Lighting Control Panel to control additional lighting circuits, up to the maximum capacity for the enclosure.

    Telephone Interface Module The SwitchKeeper Telephone Interface Module allows users to override lighting via a touch-tone telephone. The voice-synthesized interface prompts users for password, user area code, and desired Override State. The SwitchKeeper requires one Telephone Interface Module to broadcast override requests for each lighting control panel

    The Telephone Interface Module can also be used as a modem for remote communications with the SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software. The Telephone Interface Module is connected to the lighting control panel via an RS-232 cable.

    Software The SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software is used to set up and/ or change the database in a lighting control panel. An IBM compatible personal computer (PC or PS/2) is required to operate the SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software. The SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software can be used for the following applications.

    Input/ Output Linking Using the SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software, any input can be programmed to control any output or number of outputs. Time-of-Day scheduling (TOD) and Telephone Interface Module commands are also available to control the outputs.

    Time-of-Day Scheduling Using the SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software, Time-of-Day Schedules can be created for all of the outputs from each Lighting Control Panel.

    An operator can override the schedule using a local control switch, the SK Supervisor Software, or the SwitchKeeper Telephone Interface Module.

    Database Backup and Restore The complete system database can be saved to a file on any drive and sub-directory on the PC. Should the SwitchKeeper database ever be lost, it can be restored from the saved database files.

    Remote Monitoring / Troubleshooting SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software can be used to check the status of any input or output on a SwitchKeeper. Either a direct-connect or modem connection can be used to communicate with the Lighting Control Panels, making the SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software valuable as a remote monitoring / troubleshooting tool. All of the applications described above can be programmed using the SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software. The database can then be downloaded from the PC to the SwitchKeeper via a direct-connect cable or modem.

    NOTE: Time Schedules input numbers 33 through 44 are active on Monday - Friday, input numbers 45 through 51 are active on Saturday, input numbers 52 through 58 are active on Sunday, and inputs numbers 59 through 64 are active on Holidays. The factory

    General Hardware The SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software requires the following items:

    Computer An IBM compatible with at least 640 KB of RAM memory, at least one 3.5" floppy disk drive, and a monochrome or color display monitor.

    IBM DOS Software In order to properly run the SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software, the computer must have a DOS Version 3.1 operating system or higher. The SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software also works under Windows 95.

    SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software The SwitchKeeper Supervisor ships on one 3.5" floppy diskette. If desired, the licensed user can transfer the SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software to another diskette. The following hardware items are optional for the SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software program… At the PC: ♦ Telephone line with RJ11 connector (if an optional

    Connection Methods

    Direct Connection Using the direct connection allows communications at 9600 baud. When a direct connection between the PC and the SwitchKeeper is used, verify that the computer has a communications (serial) adapter card installed and note whether it is configured as COM1 or COM2. A 9-pin and a 25-pin adapter are provided for connection to this port. The Direct Connect Cable supplied, consists of a six conductor telephone style cable, a 9-pin and a 25-pin adapter heads. Attach one end of the telephone style cable to the SwitchKeeper logic board RJ-12, RS-232 port. Attach the other end to the 9-pin or the 25-pin adapter, depending upon the configuration of your computer. Connect the correct size adapter to the communications port of your computer.

    Figure 2-1 illustrates the typical components of a SK Supervisor Software system using the direct connect communications option.

    NOTE: The maximum length of an RS-232 direct-connect cable is 75 feet

    Modem Connection Using the modem connection allows communications at 1200 or 2400 baud. When a modem connection between the PC and the SwitchKeeper is used, verify that the computer has a Hayes compatible modem installed properly and note whether it is configured as COM1 or COM2. Also make sure that a modem or Telephone Interface Module is connected to the SwitchKeeper properly and is set to Auto-Answer. Figure 2-2 illustrates the typical use of modem to modem (left) or modem to Telephone Interface Module (right) communications. Figure 2-2

    Packaging The WatchKeeper, SwitchKeeper or ControlKeeper is shipped in two packages: the Enclosure and the Logic Board. The following information describes the Enclosure installation. WARNING: Disconnect Power during Wiring Take precautions if drilling inside the enclosure. Remove all metal cuttings and dust before power up. Failure to do so will damage circuit board and void warranty. DO NOT REMOVE SHRINK WRAP FROM RELAY BOARDS UNTIL ALL CHANCE OF METAL CUTTINGS AND DUST CONTAMINATION TO THE RELAY BOARDS HAS PASSED.

    Mounting

    1. Choose a dry location convenient to the circuit breaker panel.

    2. Mount the panel on a firm surface using pre-drilled

    3. Connect the enclosure to the circuit breaker panel using conduit. Remove all cuttings and dirt.

    WARNING: The conduit punch hole cannot exceed 3” (inches) from the back of the enclosure. Failure to do so will prevent the logic board from closing.

    Wiring

    Connect the wires to the transformer. The transformer is multi-tapped and voltages are color coded. You must supply a dedicated circuit for the transformer.

    Connect de-energized control circuits in series between the breakers and the loads through the terminal blocks. Relays are normally open with a rating of 20 amps at 277 VAC.

    For proper system operation, it is important to wire the network correctly. When connecting WatchKeeper/SwitchKeeper/ControlKeeper panels

    together to form a network, make the connections panel to panel. Do not create “Star” or “T” configurations. Wire type is 18-24 AWG twisted pair with shield. Recommended; Belden #9841. Refer to the Controller’s Logic Board Installation Instructions for connecting the network wiring to the Logic Board.

    Power Be sure to clean the enclosure of all wire clippings and metal fragments. Remove all protective shrink wrap from the relay boards before you power up the transformer. You can use the ON/AUTO/OFF switch on the Standard Override Card to turn the controlled circuits on and off until the logic board is installed and programmed.

    Swivel the logic board up and secure with the upper spring.

    Installing the Logic Board in 32 size Enclosure

    Attach the Inner Door to the upper half of the SwitchKeeper enclosure. Snap the fasteners securely into place.

    With the components on the logic board facing down, insert the spring hinges at the bottom of the logic board into the mounting brackets. Swivel the logic board up and secure with the upper spring hinge into the Inner Door. Connect the ribbon cable between the board and the Standard Override Card. Be sure the cable connector lines up with the mating pins.

    SwitchKeeper Input Wiring

    Contact Input

    The SwitchKeeper Logic Board can support 32 momentary, maintained or toggle type switch inputs. Connect low voltage switches to the contact input terminals using 18 AWG twisted wire. Terminal blocks are removable. Maximum length for 18 AWG wire is 1000'. Be certain to test for any shorts to AC ground.

    ♦ For two wire ON/OFF maintained applications,

    connect wires between ON and COMMON (C). Set the Contact Input Configuration Switch for that input to the down position.

    ♦ For three wire momentary ON/OFF switches

    wire top terminal to ON, bottom terminal to OFF and common terminal to C. Set the Contact Input Configuration Switch for that input to the up position.

    ♦ For two wire ON/OFF toggle applications,

    connect the wires between ON and the center pin (C). The toggle input is configured within the software via the Supervisor and will disable that particular Contact Input Configuration

    Switch. Available on SwitchKeeper panels 9.09 and greater.

    Setting Jumpers J5 & J6 The SwitchKeeper has a +24V power terminal used to supply power to the center pin (C) of the switch input terminals. In order to supply +24V to the center pin, the jumpers J5 and J6 must be in the LOCAL position. When the jumpers are in the REMOTE position, the +24V to the switch

    input terminals is disabled. The jumpers are factory set to the REMOTE position for panel protection during installation.

    Single SwitchKeeper The SwitchKeeper can be configured as a stand-alone controller with switches wired directly into each individual controller. There is no sharing of switch inputs. In this configuration the jumpers, J5 and J6 must be in the LOCAL position to activate the switch inputs.

    Note: Do not use shielded wire for switches. If shielded wire is used, leave the shield unconnected or take special precautions to create a single point ground for the entire system. All shields (Switch, LSC, Contact Input Photocell)

    Sharing Switch Inputs with More than One SwitchKeeper Switch inputs can be wired to more than one and up to five SwitchKeeper panels. In this configuration one (1) panel must supply the +24V to the center pin (C) of the switch input terminals for all SwitchKeeper panels. This prevents “bucking” power supplies.

    The ‘master’ SwitchKeeper supplying the +24V must be set in the LOCAL mode of operation. The ‘slave’ SwitchKeeper must be set in the REMOTE

    mode of operation to disable their +24V power supply. To supply +24V to the center pin (C) on the ‘slave’ SwitchKeepers, run two wires with a shield from the ‘master’ SwitchKeeper +24V Power Terminal to the ‘slave’ SwitchKeeper +24V Power Terminal. Be certain there are no shorts to AC ground.

    Note: Connect the shield to the ground lug on the enclosure at only ONE panel. ALL shields (Switch, LSC, Contact Input Photocell) must be connected to earth

    SwitchKeeper Power Wiring

    Verify that the logic board ribbon cable is connected to the Standard Override Card. Connect the logic board power connector to the transformer connector. When making connection, observe keying. Apply power to the SwitchKeeper. On power up the SwitchKeeper logic board will beep three times. For programming information, refer to the SwitchKeeper Supervisor manual.

    Standard Override Card

    The Standard Override Card provides an ON/AUTO/OFF relay control switch. This control switch is functional with or without the logic board installed. In the On position, all relays will go on. When placed in the Auto position the relays will respond to commands from the logic panel. In the Off position, all relays will go off. With some of the Relay card options (ARC, TPRC, PDI, LRC, PLC) the relays will experience a 30-second delay when the Override Switch is placed in the ON position. This only occurs if the logic board is not plugged in or powered. This does not occur with the SRC (Standard Relay Card).

    Panel Identification Switch

    Assign each panel an ID number. An ID number is required if the SwitchKeeper is to be programmed with the SK Supervisor Software. A selector switch is provided on the logic board to assign the panel ID number. Switch positions are labeled 1 through 8 and valued at 1 through 64, with position 8 reserved for Sentry Switch option. The ID# is calculated by adding the values of each position that is ON. Addresses 0 through 127 are valid addresses. Address 128 is reserved for system use and should not be used as a panel address.

    NOTE: Each SwitchKeeper must have a unique ID#. To initialize the ID# within the SwitchKeeper, it is necessary to do a reset. Press the panel-reset button located on the upper right side of the logic board. RS-232 Port

    The Supervisor Software for programming uses the RS232 port, an RJ11 connector. A special cable is supplied with the software program for connection to this port.

    SwitchKeeper Logic Board Operation

    LED's The SwitchKeeper has LEDs mounted on the Logic Board. Some are visible through the window in the enclosure door, and some only when the door is open. Refer to the diagram at the end of these instructions for location of these LEDs. SYSTEM LEDs (#1 on diagram) These three LEDs are visible through the window in the panel door, to the left side of the window. Status LED: It will flash ON and OFF when the SwitchKeeper's microprocessor is working normally. Power LED: It is ON when power is applied to the upper board. Network LED: Not applicable to this product version. RELAY STATUS LEDs (#2 on diagram)

    These 32 LEDs are visible through the window in the panel door. The LEDs correspond to relay outputs. When a relay is ON, the corresponding LED will be ON. Mode Option LEDs (#14 on diagram) These 4 LEDs are visible only with the panel door open. The LEDs are labeled A, B, C, and D and indicate selected operating modes used during programming and normal operation (refer to programming instructions for further information).

    RESET AND CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS Under certain circumstances, you may want to RESET the SwitchKeeper. Press and release the RESET button (#3 on diagram). Check the Status LEDs above. If you want to CLEAR ALL DATA stored in the SwitchKeeper's memory and program it from scratch:

    1. Place the Override Switch on the Standard Override Card in the ON position. This will turn on all the relays. If the Override Switch is left in the AUTO position, all relays will turn off after the memory is cleared.

    2. Press and hold the Star (*) button on the

    keypad.

    3. While holding the Star (*) button, press and

    release the RESET button (#3 on diagram).

    LOGIC BOARD REPLACEMENT If you need to return the Logic Board to the factory for service:

    ∆LABEL ALL WIRING ∆ ♦ Put the relay override switch on the Standard

    Override Card in the ON position. Disconnect power to the SwitchKeeper.

    ♦ Unplug logic board power wiring. ♦ Remove input terminal blocks. ♦ Disconnect relay cable from Standard Override

    Card. ♦ Unlatch upper spring hinge to swivel Logic

    Board down. ♦ Release both spring hinges at sides of Logic

    Board and remove board. ♦ Package the Logic Board carefully for shipment

    to factory. WARNING: Damage Caused by improper packaging will not be covered by warranty.

    Using the Keypad to Program The SwitchKeeper can be programmed by using the Keypad on the logic board, rather than using the SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software. All commands/ procedures described in this appendix can be done using the SwitchKeeper Supervisor Software. However, this information is provided to describe the keypad programming features available for those who do not choose to purchase the optional Supervisor Software. The figure below shows the location of the components used during the keypad programming. The following pages describe how to program with the SwitchKeeper keypad.

    SwitchKeeper Keypad Label The following figure shows the SwitchKeeper Keypad Label that is mounted on the inside of the SwitchKeeper front door. This label describes the procedure used to override individual output relays from the keypad.

    Keypad Programming

    Local Control To Control a relay directly from the keypad, follow these steps: 1. Select Run Mode 2. Press the key twice. LEDs A, B, C, and D will be

    ON. 3. Enter the Relay number (1-32). 4. Press the (#) key to toggle the relay state. The Relay

    status LED at the top of the panel will reflect whether the relay is on or off.

    5. To exit local control, press the key. To toggle another relay, repeat steps 3 and 4.

    Set Date Use the following procedure to set the date on the SwitchKeeper: 1. Place the mode switch in the PROGRAM mode. 2. Press the key, 88 88 will be displayed and LEDs

    A, B, C, and D will be ON. 3. Press the key. The current date will be

    displayed. 4. Enter the month followed by the key. 5. Enter the day of the month followed by the

    key. 6. Enter the year. Press the key to review the three

    entries in turn, then press the key to accept the three entries.

    7. Press the key to exit the Set Date mode. 8. Return the mode switch to the RUN mode.

    Set Time Use the following procedure to set the time on the SwitchKeeper. 1. Place the mode switch in the PROGRAM mode. 2. Press the key, 88 88 will be displayed and LEDs

    A, B, C, and D will be ON. 3. Press the key. The current time will be

    displayed. 4. Enter the hour followed by the key. Remember

    to use military time. Example: 3pm should be entered as 15:00.

    5. Enter the minute followed by the key. 6. Enter the day of week (1=Monday, 7=Sunday)

    7. Press the key to review the three entries in turn, then press the key to accept the three entries.

    8. Press the key to exit the Set Time mode. 9. Return the mode switch to the RUN mode.

    Set Holidays Use the following procedure to set holidays on the SwitchKeeper: 1. Place the mode switch in the PROGRAM mode. 2. Press the key, 88 88 will be displayed and LEDs

    A, B, C, and D will be ON. 3. Press the key. The first holiday in the list will be

    displayed. 00 00 will display if no holidays have been entered.

    4. Enter the month of the year followed by the key. 5. Enter the day of the month followed by the

    key. 6. Press the key to accept this holiday and view the

    next one on the list. LED C will flash when the next holiday appears.

    7. NOTE: To clear a holiday enter 00 00 for the month and day.

    8. Press the key to exit the Set Holiday mode. 9. Return the mode switch to the RUN mode.

    Time Schedule Link Use the following procedure to create a Time Schedule Link: 1. Place the mode switch in the PROGRAM mode. 2. Press the key until the INPUT display flashes. 3. Enter the time schedule number (33-64) to be linked

    followed by the key. Factory set schedule numbers and times are as follows:

    The OUTPUT display will flash. 4. Enter the output number to be linked with the time

    schedule and press the key to accept the number 5. LED A is ON indicating the output will go ON at that

    schedule time. Press the key to turn the output OFF at that scheduled time. LED A will go OFF

    indicating an OFF command will be sent at that scheduled time.

    6. To enter another link, repeat steps 2-5. 7. Return the mode switch to the RUN mode.

    Time Schedule Change Use the following procedure to change a Time Schedule Number: 1. Place the mode switch in the PROGRAM mode. 2. Press the key until the INPUT display flashes. 3. Enter the time schedule number (33-64). 4. Press the key. The LED will be lit and the

    display will show the current schedule time. 5. Enter the new schedule time. Use the key to

    move between display entries. Be sure to use military time. Enter the new time on the chart below.

    6. If the display shows the correct time, press the key to store. The display will stop blinking. Press the key to exit.

    7. Return the mode switch to the run mode.

    Switch Input Link Use the following procedure to create a Switch Input Link: 1. Place the mode switch in the PROGRAM mode 2. Press the key until the INPUT display flashes. 3. Enter the Switch Input number (1-32) to be linked

    followed by the key. The OUTPUT display will flash.

    4. Enter the output relay number (1-32) to be linked to the input switch. Press the key to accept the output relay number.

    5. To enter another link, repeat steps 2-4. 6. Return the mode switch to the RUN mode.

    TIM Input Link Use the following procedure to create a TIM Input Link: 1. Place the mode switch in the PROGRAM mode. 2. Press the key until the INPUT display flashes. 3. Enter the TIM input number (65-96). 4. Press the key. The output display will flash. 5. Enter the Output number (1-32). 6. If the displays show the correct link information,

    press the key to store. The display will stop blinking. The key LED will be lit, indicating a standard link.

    7. If you are assigning an option, Preset or Warn, select it now.

    8. Return the mode switch to the RUN mode.

    Review Link Use the following procedure to view links by input number: 1. Verify the mode switch is in the RUN mode. 2. Press the key until the INPUT display flashes. 3. Enter the input number. 4. Press the key to begin viewing links. 5. To continue viewing the list, press the . Every

    time you press the key a new link will display. 6. The Time display will return in 20 seconds after the

    last key is pressed. Use the following procedure to view links by output number: 1. Verify the mode switch is in the RUN mode.

    2. Press the key until the OUTPUT display flashes. 3. Enter the output number. 4. Press the key to begin viewing links. 5. To continue viewing the list, press the . Every

    time you press the key a new link will display. 6. The Time display will return in 20 seconds after the

    last key is pressed.

    Delete Link Use the following procedure to delete a link: 1. Place the mode switch in the PROGRAM mode. 2. Press the key until the INPUT display flashes. 3. Enter the input number followed by the key.

    The OUTPUT display will flash. 4. Enter the output number. 5. If the displays show the correct link, Press the

    key to remove it. 00 00 will be displayed when the link has been deleted.

    6. Return the mode switch to the RUN mode.

    Switch Type Change Use the following procedure to change the switch type: 1. Place the mode switch in the PROGRAM mode. 2. Press the key until the INPUT display flashes.

    3. Enter the switch number (1-32). 4. Press the key. The display will show the current

    switch type. 0 = Toggle; 1 = Momentary or Maintained; 2 = Not Used.

    5. If the display shows the correct type, press the key to enter. The display will stop blinking. Press the key to exit.

    Relay Type Change Use the following procedure to change the switch type: 1. Place the mode switch in the PROGRAM mode. 2. Press the key until the OUTPUT display flashes. 3. Enter the relay number (1-32). 4. Press the key. The display will show the current

    switch type. 0 = Not Used; 1 = Normally Open; 2 = Normally Closed; 3 = Pulsed Output.

    5. If the display shows the correct type, press the key to enter. The display will stop blinking. Press the key to exit.

    Cold Start A Cold Start will clear all program memory. It will also turn all relays OFF. If it is desired to keep the relay ON, it is necessary to put the Override Switch on the Standard Override Card into the ON position. To perform a cold start (clear memory) in a SwitchKeeper follow these steps. 1. Press the key on the keypad and hold it in for the

    entire procedure. 2. Press and release the button. 3. The Time display will clear. 4. When the LEDs A, B, C, D are ON release the key.

    5. The current time will return to the display with the Status and C LED flashing.

    WARNING: This command will leave an empty SwitchKeeper. Use the Clear Memory command sparingly.
