Something To Think About Randy Gilchrist, Executive Director

Would you believe me if I said it’s only ONE MONTH till CHRISTMAS? Not “the Christmas”, but the Rio Grande Valley Mission Trip Christmas. The Church Council and the Association staff thought it

would be a good thing to begin collecting in July for the Valley Mission Trip December 1-3. It seems like every year during the Christmas season our churches are being asked to assist with so many different special Christmas offerings causing a hardship upon the generosity of the church members. By having Christmas in July we hope to obtain all the stockings and stuffers needed for 300-350 Christmas Stockings. In this issue of “On the Line” a list is provided of the things needing to be collected for the Children in the Rio Grande Valley. I want to say thank you in advance for your support and assistance in this project.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY!

2017 Rio Grande Valley Christmas Project

Help make stockings and purchase items to stuff the stockings with. The stockings will be distributed during a mission trip to the Valley, December 1-3, 2017. You are invited to go on this mission trip. If you are interested in going, please call the Association office at 281-422-3604.

Stocking patterns and material are available at the SJBA office for individuals or groups who would like to make stockings. Please DO NOT stuff the stockings you make with the stocking stuffers you buy.

Donations may also be made to SJBA for the purchase of items to go into the stockings OR you may purchase items and bring them to the Association office starting in June and July! Shop resale shops or garage sales for “gently used” items, dollar stores, clearance sales, or buy bulk.

Your help is needed and appreciated as in the past we have not had enough stocking stuffers for the number of stockings made.

Stockings and stocking stuffers must be brought to the SJBA office by November 13, 2017 for this year’s trip.

You and your friends are invited…mark your calendar! Come help stuff the stockings from 9:30 am - 11:30 am on November 16, 2017 at the SJBA Office. Call 281-422-3604 or email us at [email protected] if you have questions.

For the Common Good . . . Carey D. Froelich, Associate Director for Church Enrichment ESV Psalm 74:12 Yet God my King is from of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. . . . 16 Yours is the day, yours also the night; you have established the heavenly lights and

the sun. 17 You have fixed all the boundaries of the earth; you have made summer and winter.

Labeled a maskil—a teaching psalm—the words of this song trace a period of burden for Israel in the heart of Asaph, and as is often the case, he returns to God’s Sovereignty as the source of strength in his despair. Something helped him remember God’s plan for life; even as the nighttime passed, he saw the dawning of the new day. As our Summer approaches, we do well to remember with the psalmist that day and night and summer and winter have all been made by the Lord of life.

This issue of On the Line is filled with opportunities for churches and members to rejoice in the season: Summer Camps for children and youth, Summer Smash for Senior Lifers, as well as Christmas in July for the annual Valley Trip are among the many options for our cooperative work as an association. Families travel and outdoor activities abound, and the seasonal hustle and bustle that dominate so many households can have an impact on the church during these out-of-school days. So, let us be faithful to continue our support of our churches, and let us rejoice in the delight of this special time of the year. My prayer for each household is that in all these opportunities, each follower of Christ will make time to reflect on the King who fixed all the boundaries of the earth and who made summer and winter.

Lake Tomahawk News Patrick Flowers, Camp Manager

The proceeds from the 2017 Golf Tournament have been used to purchase six paddle boards and a “quick jump”. We plan to install the quick jump before summer camps begin. This will provide campers new & exciting activities this summer. Camp Registrations are in full swing. Youth, Girls’, and Boys’ camps are all still taking registrations (see details on the front page). Preteen early registration deadline is June 2nd then price increases to $230 each. Summer camping season is fast approaching. As we get ready for the summer, Lake Tomahawk has a new requirement to follow from the State of Texas. All campers must have a shot record with their registration paperwork. This requirement has been added to the registration form and the information is also on our website. On this same web page there are instructions of required camp forms each church must turn in as part of their 3-ring binder when they arrive at camp. Please assist Lake Tomahawk and the Camp Director with a smooth registration process by following these instructions. Should you have questions or need assistance, call the SJBA office at 281-422-3604. Note the front page listing all SJBA Summer Camps. Registration is open for all of these camps! Summer Staff recruiting is going well. Please be in prayer for our staff and campers to prepare their hearts for Christ. Please be in prayer for us as we prepare for a great summer. Pray for our summer staff as they endure the long hot and hectic days ahead. Pray for everyone’s safety at camp and travels to / from Lake Tomahawk. We are looking forward to seeing what God has in store for all who enter Lake Tomahawk Christian Retreat Center and we give Him all the glory in advance. See you in a few short weeks!

Men of Honor Father - Son Retreat

September 8-10, 2017

Cost $65 Men / $50 Boys

Men, this is an opportunity for you to bond with your sons, create some amazing memories, and get some great insights into God’s word about leading our families. If you do not have boys of your own, would you consider being a sponsor for a young man at your church?

Pastors: It would be so helpful if you would create a list of boys that need that male influence in their lives that are not getting it at home. And make a list of men that you would trust to lead these boys, and then ask those men directly if they would consider being a sponsor to a boy or two for this retreat. This retreat can be a huge step toward equipping and empowering your men to raise the next generation of men for your church.
