LINEMAN JACOB LOUNSBERRY Williamsville, Senior/ 6-2, 220 Lounsberry was a three-year starter for the Bullets, who went a combined 33-3 during that stretch. A unanimous All-Sangamo Conference defensive end this year, he logged 24 solo tackles (60 total), along with five sacks and two fumble recoveries. Lounsberry also was a weapon out of the backfield, gaining 683 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns from his fullback spot. LINEMAN AUSTIN TRAVOUS Auburn, Senior/5-7, 230 Travous was a three-year starter who this year was first-team All-Sangamo Conference at defensive tackle and offen- sive guard. He was a key senior leader on a young Auburn defense that improved as the season went on, chalking up 44 solo tackles including seven sacks and seven other tackles for loss. LINEMAN JONAH WALSH Hillsboro, Senior/ 6-1, 190 The team MVP for a 4-5 Hillsboro team that was in the playoff hunt entering Week 9, Walsh was All-South Central Conference at defensive line and tight end. He had 68 tackles, including three sacks, along with two fumble recoveries. Hillsboro coach Aaron Duff said the oppo- sition would always run away from Walsh's side of the field. LINEBACKER TYLER BROWN Auburn, Junior/5-11, 170 Brown always seemed to be around the football from his inside linebacker spot. He posted a team- leading 122 solo tackles, including three sacks and six other tackles for loss. He also had one interception and was named first-team All-Sangamo Conference. LINEBACKER OZZIE KENT Williamsville, Senior/ 6-4, 226 Kent was a presence for outstanding Williamsville defensive units each of the past three seasons, including this year when the Bullets had four shutouts and allowed single digits in four other games. An All-Sangamo Conference linebacker, Kent was second on the team in tackles (96), including five for loss with one sack and one interception. LINEBACKER JACOB SCHURMAN Athens, Junior/6-0, 185 The lone unanimous pick among All-Sangamo Conference linebackers, Schurman was one of the Warriors' top tacklers with 23 assists and 27 solos. He also had one interception, eight pass deflections and a pair of tackles for loss. He also was a starter on offense and was named to the IHSFCA Class 2A Academic All-State Team. LINEBACKER DERREK TIBURZI Gillespie, Senior/ 5-9, 205 Gillespie did not keep defensive statistics this season, but Tiburzi played a vital role on defense and offense for the Miners' South Central Conference runner-up team. He was an All-South Central Conference first-team selection at both linebacker and running back, rushing for 870 yards and scoring 14 touchdowns at the latter position. A four-year starter, Tiburzi also ranks first in his class. DEFENSIVE BACK JAKE BRUHN Staunton, Senior/ 5-10, 160 Despite missing parts of four late-regular-season games due to injuries, Bruhn was at the heart of the Bulldogs' unlikely run to second place in the Class 2A playoffs. A three-year starter at quar- terback and a talented kick returner, he also excelled in the defensive secondary this season. Bruhn had 54 solo tackles, three tackles for loss, five interceptions and three fumble recoveries. DEFENSIVE BACK JAZEEL KING Riverton, Senior/ 5-8, 145 King's speed and quick- ness made him a valuable performer on offense and defense for the Hawks. As an All- Sangamo Conference first-team pick at defensive back, King had 29 tackles and one interception. He also had 18 recep- tions for 244 yards and four touchdowns, plus 336 yards rushing and six TDs. DEFENSIVE BACK ALEX MYLES Beardstown, Senior/ 5-9, 165 Myles rushed for 1,028 yards and 11 touchdowns, and also had 20 recep- tions 296 yards and four TDs. But he was just as valuable to the Tigers (6-4) as a defensive back, where he was a unani- mous All-Prairieland Conference Blue Division pick on defense. Myles had 45 solo tackles and 26 assists along with one interception. He also was an all-confer- ence pick at running back. DEFENSIVE BACK JAKE NIEHAUS Mount Olive, Senior/ 6-1, 165 Niehaus did a little of everything for the Wildcats, who finished 7-3 and made their second straight Class 1A playoff appearance. He was an All-Prairie State Conference selection at three spots: quarterback, punter and defensive back. On defense, he had six interceptions and made 36 tackles. At quarterback, he passed for 1,321 yards and ran for 777 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. PUNTER T.J. GRAY Carlinville, Senior/ 6-2, 190 Gray, the All-South Central Conference first-team punter, helped the Cavaliers win the field-position game on many occasions. He averaged 40.26 yards per punt. His longest punt went for 68 yards, and his punts left the opposition inside its own 20-yard line on eight occa- sions. FLEX PLAYER LUKE HAMLIN Nokomis, Senior/ 6-3, 200 Hamlin quarterbacked Nokomis to a 7-3 mark and its third straight play- off berth. But defense was where the sen- ior really excelled. Playing primarily defen- sive end, Hamlin was named the Prairie State Conference's Defensive Player of the Year as he totaled 52 tackles — including 16 for loss. He also had one interception and four fumble recoveries, along with a blocked punt. — Capsules by Dave Kane QUARTERBACK JOSH LINDSEY Williamsville, Senior/ 6-2, 192 Lindsey, a two-year starter, came into his own this season as a rusher (1,393 yards, 20 touchdowns) and a pass- er (a 59 percent completion percentage for 1,768 yards, 15 touchdowns and just two interceptions). In leading the Bullets to an 11-1 mark and Class 3A quarterfinal berth, he was first-team Sangamo Conference, IHSFCA Class 3A all-state and Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette special mention all-state. CENTER NICK MILNER Auburn, Senior/6-3, 265 In a season in which Auburn broke single-sea- son school records for total yards (5,182), pass- ing yards (3,303) and first downs (246), Milner helped pave the way as coach Dave Bates' "quarterback of the offensive line." The All-Sangamo Conference first- team center made many line calls for the Trojans' blocking schemes. TACKLE LUKE NALL Havana, Senior/6-2, 295 Considered one of the strongest players in the Prairieland Conference, Nall was a first-team Blue Division offensive tackle and second- team defensive lineman. Coach Chad Heffren said Illinois State has shown interest in Nall, although the big senior is also an exceptional student who could receive academic scholarships from a school like ISU. TACKLE DALTON RATLIFF Athens, Senior/6-4, 265 Ratliff was a big presence on an offensive line that opened the way for the Warriors' ball-control attack. He was the only unanimous selection among Sangamo Conference offensive linemen after also earning All-Sangamo honors as a junior. Ratliff also was named Class 2A all-state by the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association (IHSFCA). GUARD ETHAN DIXON Carlinville, Senior/ 6-0, 220 Dixon helped open the way for the Cavaliers' 3,487 rushing yards as they went 8-3 and reached the second round of the Class 2A playoffs. He was named the Cavaliers' most valuable offen- sive lineman each of the past two years, and he was first-team All-South Central Conference on the offensive and defen- sive lines this year. GUARD WYATT ROBINSON Petersburg PORTA, Senior/6-4, 265 A first-team All-Sangamo Conference selection at guard, Robinson played a big role in PORTA's turnaround season as the Bluejays went 6-4 and made the Class 3A playoffs. Robinson, a three-year starter, made PORTA's offensive line calls from his guard spot as the Bluejays averaged 31 points a game and rolled up 3,500 yards. TIGHT END COOPER EAKER Auburn, Junior/6-4, 200 One of three underclass- men among the Trojans' top five receivers, Eaker gave Auburn quarterback Korben Clark a big target in Auburn's impressive aerial attack. A first-team Sangamo Conference pick at tight end, Eaker had the team's third-most recep- tions (37) for 396 yards and six touch- downs. RUNNING BACK AUSTIN CHAUSSE Nokomis, Senior/ 6-0, 190 The elusive Chausse closed out a noteworthy career for Nokomis as he was named the Prairie State Conference Offensive Player of the Year. He rushed for 1,155 yards and 20 touchdowns while catching 14 passes and scoring three more touchdowns. Chausse also had an area-leading seven interceptions at defensive back. He was also IHSFCA Class 2A all-state and Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette special mention all-state. RUNNING BACK JESSE SETZER Petersburg PORTA, Senior/5-7, 175 Setzer's breakout season coincided with the Bluejays' first winning campaign since 2009. He gained an area- leading 2,249 rushing yards (No. 2 in PORTA history) and scored 24 touch- downs; he had three kick returns for touchdowns, and he also grabbed a touchdown pass. He was unanimous All- Sangamo Conference at running back, IHSFCA Class 3A all-state and Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette special mention all-state. WIDE RECEIVER CHRIS HALPIN Gillespie, Senior/ 6-2, 185 Halpin was a multi-faceted weapon for the Miners, who posted their best record (10-2) since 1990 and reached the Class 2A quarterfinals. The All-South Central Conference receiver and special- teams player caught 51 of Mike Henderson's passes for 821 yards and 10 touchdowns. Halpin also had five returns for touchdowns (three punts and two kickoffs). WIDE RECEIVER JARED WILSON Auburn, Senior/5-10, 161 After missing part of his junior season due to injury, Wilson bounced back impressively for the Trojans. He was their top receiver with 73 catches for 1,274 yards and 15 touchdowns, including a school-record 19 receptions (one short of the state record) in Week 9 against Williamsville. Wilson was a unanimous All- Sangamo Conference receiver, and also earned IHSFCA Class 3A all-state honors. KICKER TYLER NICHOLS Williamsville, Senior/ 5-10, 150 Nichols, an All-Sangamo Conference and all-area selection for the second straight year, was as reliable as they come for the Bullets again this season. He was 60-for-62 on extra points and 6-for-6 on field goals, with the longest field goal from 28 yards out. During his career, he was 13-for-13 on field goals and made 56 straight extra points (fifth all-time on the state list). Williamsville coach Aaron Kunz also praised Nichols' ability to place kick- offs in the ideal spots. FLEX PLAYER MARCUS SITKO Staunton, Junior/ 6-0, 165 Fourth-place finisher in the Class 1A state long jump last spring, Sitko also showed his athleticism for Staunton's Class 2A state runner-up team. He caught 38 passes for 677 yards and 14 touch- downs (including clutch TD catches against Carlyle and Auburn in the play- offs); rushed for 649 yards and five touchdowns, and scored 21 touchdowns total. He was Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette special mention all-state.
