Motivating your child!• Be interested!• Listen to your child play.

• Ask them to play for you!

• Praise them for their work, not necessarily the product!

• Attend community orchestra events. • Follow through with practice expectations,

rewards, and consequences.

Student Expectations

• Practice 7 days each week, following the goals stated in your practice assignment. Focus on goals not time.

• Attend and perform at two after-school concerts.

• Bring your instrument to school and take it home on each orchestra day.

• Don't touch the pegs!• Play standing up! (except for cello – sit tall!)

Instrument Care

• Wiping instruments• Clean, dry cloth. No chemicals.

• Storage must be in a controlled environment.o Don't leave an instrument in your car

Beware of short stops at Wal-Mart!

• Bow• Tension – tighten to play, loosen to store. • Don't touch the hair on the bow!• Use of rosin.

Instrument and Accessory Requirements

• Violin and viola students must have shoulder rests! *Be sure to get the right size.

• Cello and bass students must have endpin anchors, also known as "rock-stops."

• Metronomes for home practice - check your phone for an app, or go to a metronome website: http://www.metronomeonline.com/

• Music stand for home practice
