Welcome from the Headteacher and the Head of Sixth FormWelcome to Teddington Sixth Form. We are delighted you are taking the time to consider us as a place to continue your education.

This is a very exciting time in the history of Teddington Sixth Form. With a wide range of courses, inspiring teaching, strong support and an extensive enrichment programme, we are confident that our Sixth Form is large enough to offer you the choices you want, but small enough so you can thrive in a supportive and friendly environment. With our fantastic new Sixth Form Centre, a more adult relationship with staff and a greater degree of independence, it will also seem different enough so you feel you have moved on as an individual.

As a student at Teddington you will be expected to take responsibility for your own learning and demonstrate a committed and conscientious approach to your studies. However, whilst you are encouraged to become an independent learner, you will not be left on your own as your academic progress will be closely monitored to ensure you remain on track to realise your full potential.

Alongside high academic standards, we are also keen to focus on your personal development by placing a strong emphasis on involvement in extra-curricular activities. Whether this is participating in sports teams, enrichment activities, or assisting and leading others within the school and wider community, we want you to grasp the opportunities we present.

Please take time to invest in your future success by looking at the extensive range of courses and activities we will have on offer. We look forward to discussing your future in our sixth form community.

FacilitiesTeddington is fortunate to have its own brand new Sixth Form Centre, which is a beautifully sculptured two storey building that sits opposite our cutting edge 11-16 school. Framed by soft curves, the building truly complements our main school building. We know you will be equally impressed with its facilities when you step inside. Fully equipped with a variety of modern teaching rooms and three large specialist science laboratories, we are able toofferstudentsanexcitingspaceinwhichtostudy.Althoughmost sixth form lessons are taught here, three subjects are housed inthemainbuildingwheresixthformersbenefitfromabespokespace for Drama, a remodelled Art studio and a state of the art suite for Photography that contains 20 Apple Mac computers.

To enable independent learning the centre has its own study area with many computers for you to use and lots of space for you to work in. The building is also fully wireless so you can access the school system through your own devices. For convenience every sixth form student has their own locker.

Away from the classroom there is a dedicated Common Room for socialising with friends which has a vibrant atmosphere at break times. This links through folding glass doors to a large outdoor space which is for the sole use of sixth form students: the perfect place to relax and chat when the sun is shining or for us to hold a summer BBQ. To keep you energised the centre has its own café serving snacks and drinks, although students do get priority access to the main school restaurant.

CurriculumChoosing what to study after Year 11 is one of the most important decisions you will make and our sixth form curriculum has been designed to give you the opportunitytospecialiseorretainabreadthof choice.Withover20differentAlevel subjects to choose from there are lots of combinations to consider, although whichever subjects you choose we know you will be well prepared to access the best universities, high quality employment and the best apprenticeships.

In order for us to offer such a wide range of subjects at A level, Teddington Sixth Form will continue to work in close partnership with Waldegrave School as part of the Richmond Post 16 Partnership. This means a small number of our A level subjects being taught away from Teddington, in separate morning and afternoon sessions which allow students time to travel between sites.

Alongside our A level courses we also offer the Extended Project Qualification, a course which develops the independent learning skills required by the best universities. Furthermore, during our Wednesday afternoon enrichment programme, which we operate in collaboration with other Richmond sixth forms, we offer all our students the opportunity to take part in a wide range of enrichment or sporting activities across the borough.

Extra CurricularA key part of what makes sixth form life at Teddington so special are the wide range of academic and extra-curricular enrichment activities available for you to enjoy. Participating in such events will help enrich your learning and allow you to develop both academically and as an individual. Not only will they be enjoyable, rewarding and fun, but participation in such activities is also essential to support university and employment applications.

Examples of some of the opportunities which we offer are: competitive sports teams, music, drama & art events, the Duke of Edinburgh programme, guest speakers programme, subject based visits (both in the UK and overseas), subject based competitions, student conferences, residential courses (such as those through Villiers Park or The Sutton Trust), a sixth form committee, community service, a sixth form mentoring programme, university visits and conferences, mock interviews, Richmond Post 16 Partnership revision and master classes, social events and work experience.

Teaching and LearningWe understand that high attainment in the sixth form is crucial for onward progression, and that the foundation of this is built in the classroom. At Teddington we have a team of hard-working and inspirational teachers who will encourage you to become an independent thinker. Empathy

Supporting studentsTeddington Sixth Form provides a welcoming, caring and supportive environment in which students can develop their full potential and be prepared for higher education and the world beyond. Concerned with the well being of each individual, we place great emphasis on supporting both academic and personal development. Starting with the sixth form guidance interview, when we meet students to discuss course choices, our students are supported every step of the way. Each student is allocated a personal tutor who meetswiththemeverydaytoofferacademicandpastoralsupport.Studentsalsobenefitfromacloserelationship with the Sixth Form Leadership Team who are available to help support individual needs and who monitor student progress closely.

We expect the majority of our students to go on to their first choice university and we will provide clear guidance to assist students through the UCAS process, offering help with selecting the most appropriate university and with completing the UCAS application form. To facilitate this there will be a number of events to help students with decision making (UCAS Conventions, Open Day visits, UCAS Registration Day, Higher Education Evening, Mock Interviews) and lots of individual help to assist with writing the personal statement. We also guarantee a UCAS reference which reflects a ‘personal touch’, as this can really make a difference with university admissions officers.

Whilst we will support every university application, for Oxbridge candidates, those applying for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine courses and the Russell Group universities, our Russell Group Coordinator will offer specialist advice, guidance and enrichment activities to best prepare students for the application process, admissions tests and interviews which lie ahead.
