A. Background AMOUR stands for Arrtu, Mayak, Orangutan, Rescue, a project focusing on orangutan conservation and protection program of High Conservation Area (HCV) in PT Arrtu Energy Resource Block II, Ketapang with the main purposes of the project are:

- To monitor the habitat and the living orangutan in the HCV area. - To protect and rehabilitate the HCV area. - To work together with the local community to map the land use and increase awareness of the

importance of HCV area. Those three points are the stage 1 of the project with 6 months duration.

The project will take place in a part of the palm oil concession held by PT Arrtu Energie Resources (AER) which is a wholly owned subsidiary of EHP, near Ketapang in West Kalimantan, Borneo, Indonesia.AER has a total area of 11,000 hectares which is currently in the Kadastral stage of the land license process.

Approximately 2,800 hectares is planted with young palm oil plants with an average age of four (4) years, just entering the mature age at which the fruit is large enough to be harvested.

The remaining area of approximately 8,000 hectares is swamp, open land & forest which forms the project area. Currently, the 8,000 hectares of the HCV area is shrinking and the progress is accelerating day by day. Before those area are restored, a throughout identification is strongly required to find the main cause and how to stop the shrinking, while the orangutan conservation becomes the main focus of this project. Based on the data collected by YIAR on the month of May and June 2017, there are 56 nests of orangutan were found with approximately 31 – 64 orangutan live in the area and this data is required a further and continuous assessment.

C. Timeline of the Project In order to accelerate the process, EHP is working together with the local community to form a Satgas team consisting of 6 people sited in Mayak and 1 coordinator sited in Regional Office, Ketapang (KTPO). To improve the skill of the Satgas, EHP is working together with Yayasan International Animal Rescue Indonesia (YIARI) to help providing training and monitoring. Later, a MoU with BKSDA will be proposed to ensure this project is supported by government as well. The stage 1 of the project has 6 months duration with timeline as below:

1. Forming A Satgas Team and Hire a Coordinator

The teams from EHP have been visiting Desa Mayak for several times in order to form the Satgas team as part of the Project Amour. The Satgas have responsibilities as below:

- To monitor the living orangutan in the HCV area used as the Project. - To help maintaining the habitat of orangutan in the HCV area by increasing the awareness of the

local people about the importance of HCV area which located not far (just across the river) from their village.

- To map the land use of the HCV area. - To do regular patrol in the HCV area. - To report in regular basis about the activities conducted during the project.

The Satgas team is formed in January 2018 consisting of six people from Desa Mayak.

Aside from the satgas team, to accelerate the project, the Satgas Amour are working together with team from Sustainability Dept. of EHP (RO and HO) and GIS Dept. team of PT AER. Appendixes 1: Satgas Form

2. Contract Signing with the YIARI Contract signing between Eagle High Plantation represented by Mr. Sebastian Sharp with the YIARI represented by Karmelle Sanchez is conducted in YIARI’s office, Jalan Ketapang-Tanjungpura RT 010, Dsn. Pematang Merbau, Kec. MuaraPawan, Kab. Ketapang, on Friday, 16 March 2018. The contract agreement consists of three points agreed by both EHP and YIARI.

3. Land Use Change Analysis

Land Use Change Analysis (LUCA) is required to help identifying the current condition of the forest inside the HCV area. The consultant responsible to do the LUCA is from Aksenta.

The area surveyed is the cadastral areal of PT Arrtu Energy Resource, 11,557.5 Ha. Planted area is 2,762.5 ha which cover villages of Makmur Abadi, Negeri Baru, Sei Pelang. The methods used in Land Use Change Analysis are:

- Desktop study which is including the cut off determining, pre-processing image, land covering clarification, survey design.

- Field survey is including land covering verification, type of land clearing verification, remediation of area verification, documents review and interview.

- Data analysis is including image validation, change detection analysis and compensation liability. - Reporting

Results of the survey:

- It is identified that there are 86.7 ha of area clearance without prior HCV assessment. - However the conservation liability is 0 ha which is a good news. Because The 86.7 Ha which

initially identified as area clearance without prior HCV assessment is verified as area with type of land covering as open land, ex-flooding area with bushes with coefficient vegetation 0 (zero).

- The environment remediation are: ➢ No riparian ➢ Peat area 86.7 ha ➢ No slope area more than 40% ➢ No fragile soil

For the peat area the remediation is only focusing on how company will manage the area.

From the land covering data above there are potential area around 2,262.3 Ha consists of secondary forest (1,562.4 Ha) and thick underbrush (699.9 Ha) which though the vegetation structure is not as complex as the primary forest and has been identified as degraded area but the areas still have ecology function. This area is going to be the focus of Amour Project because the living orangutans were found in this area. The rest of the area around 5,515.9 Ha is planned to be under the forest restoration project, cooperating with YIARI for the nursery establishment and plant species recommendation to grow. For now, from the data above the total project area is around 7,578.2 Ha. Appendixes 2: LUCA PT. AER

4. Training of Human-Orangutan Conflict (HOC) Mitigation The training of Human-Orangutan Conflict (HOC) Mitigation is divided into two sessions; first session is the two days classroom session conducted in Hotel Onyx’s meeting room, Ketapang and then three days practice session in the forest inside the HCV area.

5. Making the Patrol Path

Making the patrol path for the Satgas team is the first agenda after the training. The function of patrol path will provide access to the Satgas to do the patrol inside the HCV area. To accelerate the process, the Satgas will be accompanied by the GIS team of PT AER. The target to finish making the patrol path on May and June 2018 cannot be achieved due to the high water level in Mayak, so the flooding is slowing down the Satgas and the GIS team.

Because of that, this target is postponed to be done on August – September 2018 and this work is completely done on September 8th, 2018.

The Satgas are doing the patrol around the areas that have been path and learning about data collecting. During the patrol the Satgas are finding some exotic animals like:

- Monyet/kera or monkey from species Macacafascicularis which commonly found in Kalimantan, - Lutung(Trachypithecusauratus), - Bekantan(Nasalislarvatus), - Enggang/rangkong (Buceros rhinoceros), - Some insects, - Some reptiles, - and of course some orangutans

The Satgas are also learning about how differentiate the type of nest to find out how fresh the nest is. Aside from that, the Satgas also collect data about the water level and rainfall.

6. Mitigation

Based on report 30 May 2018, the Satgas were informed by the local villagers due to a minor conflict of orangutan (adult male orangutan) which enters the villagers’ palm oil plantation. A mitigation procedure using sound gun was done and succeeded to chase away the orangutan.

The satgas received report on July 12th, 2018 from villagers regarding a female orangutan was entering their plantation. The satgas visited the location in the same day and successfully mitigated the orangutan to the woods far from the plantation area.

7. SOP Development

Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) development is one of the points agreed by both EHP and YIARI. Currently, EHP doesn’t have specific SOP regarding orangutan and YIARI will assist in providing example or data required to develop the SOP. The first draft of SOP (Standard Operational Procedure) and IK (Instruksi Kerja) for Satgas have been finalized by coordinator and already reviewed by Sustainability team. The draft will be reviewed by YIAR for some inputs (if any) before the SOP and IK are released. Appendixes 3: SOP, IK and Orangutan Handling

8. Smart Patrol Training with YIARI SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool) was developed by ZSL and other leading conservation organizations. It is a combination of software, training materials and patrolling standards to help conservation coordinator monitor the animals, identify threats in the form of human activities or natural disaster and make patrol more effective. Through SMART data analysis the process of data collection is easier because SMART provides pinpoint accuracy to record patrol routes, wildlife signs and illegal activities. The standardized data of SMART can be used to create maps, analysis and reports to help coordinator and management decide the appropriate actions to take. Smart Patrol Training (Cybertracker) in Satgas Level

The training in Satgas level conducted on August 13th, 2018 using the Smart Patrol device (Blackview BV6000) by Sustainability Assistant (Ivan P. Damanik) and Satgas Coordinator (Eka Utami Ningsih). The implementation of Smart Patrol started on August 28th, 2018. Since then, the Satgas send the data collected in daily basis received by coordinator in RO.

9. Forest Restoration Forest restoration project is the third point agreed in the contract between EHP and YIARI. YIARI will provide advices regarding the establishment of nursery and type of species to be planted. The focus area is the degraded forest to connect the major forest spots. There was a meeting in 2nd July 2018 with YIAR Indonesia and First Resource regarding the future plan of Forest Restoration focusing on degraded area of PT Arrtu Energie Resources (EHP) and PT Limpah Sejahtera (FR) as the priority of the program. From the meeting some points have been agreed by EHP, FR and YIAR Indonesia:

- FR has agreed to share data regarding orangutan; - Both EHP and FR have committed to do the forest restoration, starting in the hotspot area

pointed in the meeting (by the boundary of FR and EHP); - YIAR Indonesia agreed to assist in planning and guarding the restoration process;

- Once a month, a meeting or join patrol will be conducted by FR and EHP assisted by Tim Mitra YIAR;

As YIAR Indonesia has agreed to assist the technical matter in the restoration process, they invited both EHP and FR to visit their area where restoration was conducted in Sungai Deras, Pematang Gadung. HOTP, Sustainability Assistant and CSR Manager joined the trip along with team for First Resources on September 5th, 2018. The results of the visits are:

- To find out the technical matter of how to do restoration and land preparation. - Nursery management. - Type of plants recommended for restoration. - Monitoring and maintenance.

From the visit, HOTP, Sustainability Assistant and Coordinator are working together to design the restoration plan which is located in the HCV area connected to HCV area of PT Limpah Sejahtera (FR). The initial plan will cover only 5 Ha (50 m x 1000 m) with purposes:

- To build a safe corridor for Orangutan to cross between the PT AER’s HCV and PT LS’s HCV. - To enrich the foods of Orangutan by planting fruit plants for Orangutan (from the family of

Syzigium sp and Mytaceae). - To help restoring the degraded area caused by fire and illegal logging. - To improve the ecological function of degraded forest area.

10. BBC Screening (Documentary of Red Ape) On the 4th June 2018, a screening of documentary on orangutan in Borneo entitled Red Ape, which had been broadcasted by the BBC UK in cooperation with International Animal Rescue, was held by Eagle High Plantation and took place in the Head Office of Eagle High Plantation, Jakarta. The screening was attended by BKSDA Kalbar, Palm Scribe, GAR, IDH and representatives of some oil palm companies such as Makin Group and BGA.

The focus of this event is to discuss about the impact of the documentary entitled Red Ape to oil palm industry, especially in Indonesia. The show itself is about orangutan and how the population is progressively decreasing due to deforestation caused by logging, mining and oil palm industry. There are some movements out there to ban the using of oil palm in order to protect orangutan and forest from deforestation and the most famous one comes from UK’s Iceland chain of supermarket. The owner decided to stop selling all kinds of products made of oil palm before there is a proof of sustainability commitment.

From the discussion, there some points noted:

- The Red Ape documentary may affect the oil palm industry significantly especially by those who are only seeing this case from one/narrow point of view. The fact is aside from the negative images, oil palm industry has prominent contribution in providing low-price option of edible oil compared to other options such as soya bean or animal product.

- One of the factors why oil palm industry has so much negative image is because the number of positive reviews about this industry is almost none. PalmScribe has emphasized that the role of media especially internet in spreading negative news of oil palm is really significant. It is important for all companies in this industry to work together to start focusing on increasing image of the oil palm industry by updating their achievements.

- There a lot of companies in oil palm industry have been doing a sustainable model of business in order to maintain the biodiversity while at the same thing are increasing their production. EHP is among the leading companies in this industry with cooperation with multiply stakeholders are striving to proof this kind of business model is possible and at the same time, slowly but surely, will start building the good image of this industry.

11. Hotspot Monitoring (Karhutla Prevention)

The drought season is one of the reasons behind karhutla – kebakaran hutan dan lahan. Another reason is the HCV area is mostly consisting of peat land which once burnt is difficult to extinguish the fire. Since July 19th, 2018, the satgas keep spotting some hotspots inside or around the HCV area. Some hotspots are small enough for satgas to extinguish by themselves but some more are too big for them.

The hotspot location was near the boundary of our HCV and PT Limpah Sejahtera. The fire fighter from Limpah Sejahtera (FR) was cooperating with fire fighter from PT Arrtu Energie Resources, assisted by Manggala Agni and helicopter from BNPB have successfully extinguished the fire in 3 days.

Since then some coordination were made between Sustainability Team with some parties:

- Reports or BAs were made to police regarding karhutla; - Visited Manggala Agni for coordination; - Coordination and report were made to Yayasan International Animal Rescue, so they aware of

the present condition inside the HCV;

- Attended invitation from Bupati Ketapang for a consolidation meeting with multi-stakeholders (regency level);

- Coordination was made with conservation team of PT Limpah Sejahtera (FR) which location is close to the HCV area.

- Attended invitation from Kecamatan Matan Hilir Selatan for consolidation in sub district level.

After the big fire on 19 – 22 July 2018, some hotspots were found in some areas inside the HCV. However, due to difficult access and the source of water is too far for the team to reach even using robin, the only solution available is depending on water bombed by helicopter from BNPB.

The fire monitoring is continued by the satgas from the early of August 2018. Initially, they are only reporting the hotspot areas but later PT AER (EPWE) is lending them some fire fighter equipment for

them to help extinguishing the fire inside the HCV area that they could reach. The fire equipment lend by PT AER are:

- 1 Unit Robin - 10 Roll Hose 1,5” - 1 Unit Nozel 1,5”

12. Nest Survey

The nest survey is started in 28th August 2018. The satgas have been trained to use Cybertracker; the app used in Smart Patrol. Though the progress is still not perfect but the satgas could regularly send the data using Blackview BV6000 through Gmail. The results of nest survey are:

13. Satgas Amour Visit to PT AER (EPWE) and Kelampai Mill In the present situation, the existence of Satgas Amour cannot be separated from the fact that their project area located in concession of PT Arrtu Energi Resources. Visiting the plantation and the mill is part of the 6 month Project Amour program to introduce the satgas about how an oil palm company is operating. The visit conducted in 29 September 2018 with agenda:

13.1. Visiting the Plantation of PT Arrtu Energie Resources (Energy Pawan Estate) The results of the visit are: - Satgas could see directly the present condition of PT Arrtu Energie Resource. - In the present time, PT Arrtu Energie Resources is lacking of workers. The plantation

is only depending on the local workers due to the lack of housing so recruiting external workers are impossible. It is possible for Desa Mayak to help providing extra workers to do manual weeding and pruning.

- Satgas could learn about how an oil palm company is operating.

13.2. Visiting Mill of PT Arrtu Plantation (Kelampai Mill) The results of the visit are: - The satgas learn about the process of how FFB were turned into CPO.

Overall by visiting the plantation and the mill, the satgas could understand that the work they have been doing is also beneficial for both their village and the company. The conservation area they have been protecting which is part of PT Arrtu Energie Resource will support the sustainability program that the group (EHP) has been campaigning all this year.

14. Investor Visit (Sail Ventures & IDH) Sail Ventures is an investment company located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands which focuses on providing investors with long-term sustainable terms. Unlike the other investment companies, Sail Ventures has specific mission to prove that financing inclusive, sustainable and deforestation-free are possible. They have been working together with several types of company, not only palm oil but also soy, beef, paper and pulp. While Sail Ventures more focuses on providing investment for company to do sustainable business model, IDH is more focus in prototyping a sustainable business models for scale, though the purpose is the same to protect valuable forest and peat land by providing investment and assistant. Those two investment companies were interested and pay a slightly close attention to PT Arrtu Energie Resources which inside the concession area has conservation project called Project Amour; a project which focuses on protecting Orangutan, other wildlife and the forest surrounded. The four people from the top management of Sail Ventures were joining the trip:

- Johnny Brom is a founder and Chief Investment Officer of Sail Ventures; - Andrew Beveridge is an agribusiness specialist and has impressive experience in palm oil

industry and qualified in agriculture science and management; - Dorian Van Raalte is the one who will be responsible in research and analysis of potential

investment, and the last but not least is; - Sanjiv Louis who will be responsible in financial matters due to his impressive experience as

financial advisor for both public and private sector companies.

From IDH there are two people were also joining the trip: - Aris Wanjaya is a program and landscape Manager of IDH Indonesia; - Lorens is a Landscape Manager regional West Kalimantan.

They two days schedule including visited Mayak Village and HCV area which is still inside the concession of PT Arrtu Energie Resources in the first day and in the second day visited PT Arrtu Energie Resources (Energy Pawan Estate). In the first day after they arrived in Ketapang, an informal meeting was held by Regional Head (Mr. Sudardi) to welcome them and then their trip continued to Mayak. In Mayak, they met with the satgas and experienced the hiking inside the rainforest though unfortunately they didn’t spot Orangutan but they were lucky enough to spot several nests and learnt a bit about Orangutan and their habitat.

In PT Arrtu Energie Resources their trip were accompanied by both Estate Manager (Mr. Hery Mulya) and Area Manager (Mr. Herry Setyawan) to learn about the present condition of PT Arrtu Energie Resources both the field and financial condition.

Field Visit and Discussion in PT AER (EPWE)

Their visit is a proof that working on the potential new investment concept and business model which are not only getting profit from production but also from the hectares that conserved is possible. They share a lot of information and experiences about what they have been doing and what kind of possibility that PT Arrtu Energy Resources and Eagle High Plantation may achieve in the future. The visit from Sail Ventures and IDH is also the last program conducted in the six month of Project Amour.

E. Budget and Expenses Report of the Project AMOUR On 9 May 2018, Satgas Amour has opened its own bank account using Bank Mandiri. The purpose of using its own account is so it is easier to monitor the cash flow and the expenses without being disturbed by external aspects if using third party bank accounts. The first transaction using the bank account is to pay the salary of Satgas for the month of April 2018 and the operational cost of May 2018 with total Rp. 12,897,010.

G. Summary of the Project AMOUR Per April 2018, there are some activities have been conducted:

Per May 2018, there are some activities have been conducted:

- The patrol path is partially done due to high water level (flooding) - The patrol and data collection has been started - The monthly budget (basic operational) for the project has been designed - At present, coordinator is collecting data required to develop the SOP

Per June 2018, there are some activities have been conducted:

- The Satgas are patrolling and collecting data in daily basis. - The SMART Patrol training in the level of coordinator, HOTP and Asst. Sustainability have been

done. Per July 2017, there are some activities have been conducted:

- The Satgas have continued making path by themselves (a shortcut to the HCV boundary was made)

- The Satgas assisted in patrolling and monitoring karhutla - The proposal for IDH is finalized by the coordinator - A coordination/meeting has been conducted with the head of Satgas of PT Limpah Sejahtera

(FR) - SOP and IK have been finalized by coordinator and at present were reviewed by management.
