2 DESCRIPTION

This section describes the SiteStar Cabinet.

2.1 PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The SiteStar Cabinet supports external equipment with battery backup power.

The SiteStar cabinet features an active climate solution which maximizes battery lifetime in warm climates and battery capacity in cold climates.

SiteStar cabinets are designed for both indoor and outdoor environments, with a unique combination of low thermal conductive materials and a high-efficiency climate solution. With an extremely cost-effective cooling technology and a cabinet shell that allows minimal transfer of temperatures, we keep your batteries at optimal operating temperature, with the energy usage equivalent to a single light bulb. This means the SiteStar cabinets offer up to 95% power savings compared to air-conditioned cabinets.

In case additional battery capacity is required, the SiteStar cabinet can be extended with a second SiteStar cabinet.

The system is approved for operation throughout the world. For areas exposed to earthquake risk, the Earthquake Zone 4 Cabinet version shall be considered.

2.1.1 MAIN FEATURES

The SiteStar Cabinet:

Is designed for outdoor use

Is IP 55 shielded

2.2.1 CABINET

The cabinet structure consists of an inner and an outer liner. The volume between the liners is filled with foam insulation. With this design there is virtually no heat-bridges in the climate insulation and thus giving the cabinet an excellent thermodynamic performance.

The top of the cabinet is provided with four M8 threaded holes that are provided for the usage of lifting eye bolts.

The roof of the cabinet is designed with a small overhang in the front to protect the top of the environmental seal from direct sunlight and water.

2.2.2 EARTH GROUNDING

The cabinet is equipped with earth grounding points as follows:

Cabinet without EQ Zone 4 Reinforcement

The cabinet is equipped with a double M8 earth point at each side of the plinth, “A” in the figure below, for connection to site earth grounding point.

Figure 3 Earth Grounding in Cabinet without EQ Zone 4

The PE wire of the incoming AC feed (if any) is terminated in a green/yellow PE terminal located inside the CF, securely connected to the cabinet ground.

EQ Zone 4 Cabinet

The cabinet is equipped with four earth grounding studs in the bottom of the cabinet, Figure 4, for connection to site earth grounding point.

2.2.3 DOOR

The door is of the same design concept as the cabinet when it comes to the thermal insulation, with an inner and outer liner and insulation foam in between.

The SiteStar Cabinet Door contains the climate unit, the climate control unit and the door locking system.

2.2.3.1 CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT

The Climate Control Unit (CCU) is monitoring the temperature inside the cabinet and regulates the Climate Unit (CLU).

The external alarm interface on the CCU is wired to the Connection Field, which includes the interface for the outgoing external alarm cables.

The control unit and its panel are located at the inside of the bottom part of the door.

Figure 5 shows the panel. The panel also exists with an ECO indicator and switch, see Figure 6.

2.2.4.2 DC CONNECTION UNIT

In cabinets with DC powered CLU the batteries and the CLU can be connected direct to an external power supply unit or through the optional DC Connection Unit (DCCU).

The DCCU is a connection point, including fuses, for up to 4 battery strings.

Cable lugs for cables up to 95 mm2 can be used with the DCCU. All connections are M8 studs and the distances between the studs are 1 inch. The DCCU is installed at the bottom of the cabinet, Figure 8.

For further information, see D000108, SiteStar DCCU Kit.

Figure 8 DCCU

Warning!

If the SiteStar cabinet is configured without the DCCU, it is of vital importance that the Battery cables are provided with adequate protection at the site to ensure compliance to national wiring regulations.

It is recommended to use SiteTel Cables to ensure a safe connection.

Risk of personal injury and property damage.

2.6 CLIMATE SYSTEM

This section describes the climate system.

2.6.1 GENERAL

The cabinet features a climate system including heating and active cooling systems. The system ensures maximum battery life in cold and warm climates.

SiteStar can be set to power-up and operate in one of two modes:

Normal Operational Mode

Factory Test Mode

nsreubenk
Test
Page 25: SITESTAR CABINET DESCRIPTION - NorthstarD Climate Control Unit See section 2.2.3.1 E Connection Field See section 2.2.4 F Batteries See section 2.2.5 G EQ Zone 4 Reinforcement Valid

Doc. No: D000100-INS-01, Rev I Page 25 of 35

The mode is selected when the system is powered up based on the state of the door switch. Normal Operational Mode is selected if the door switch is open when the power is switched on and Factory Test Mode if the door switch is closed.

2.6.1.1 NORMAL OPERATIONAL MODE

In Normal Operational Mode the system operates as follows:

Power-up

When the system is powered up in Operational mode, it will automatically initiate the SW’s start-up sequence.

Self-test

The system does a self test at start-up. The start-up sequence is up to 2 minutes long. During the self test, all components in the system are tested, i.e. compressor, fan, heater (if equipped), temperature sensors, etc. The yellow indicator is lit during the self test sequence. After the self-test is completed the system will go into operation mode, or indicate a fail. As the system goes into operation, the yellow indicator will go out, and the green ‘Operational’ will be lit.

After approximately 1 minute in operation mode, Door Alarm is activated. The alarm is revoked 1 minute after closing the door.

Operation

After the system has completed the self test sequence the system will start to regulate the temperature inside.

If necessary the system can be equipped with a heater. If so, the system will remain the optimum temperature for the batteries in sub zero temperatures down to -40 °C.

ECO Operation

Some SiteStar systems have an ECO Operation mode. This mode will reduce power consumption up to 20%.

Fail

The following fails can be detected:

Compressor fail

Temperature sensor fail

Fan fail

Internal Heater fail (if equipped)

Over temperature, inside

Under temperature, Inside

Over temperature, outside

2.6.1.2 FACTORY TEST MODE

Factory test mode is only used during factory test before delivery to site and should not be used when the system is installed on site due to long test cycle.

In Factory test mode the factory technicians can carefully test the system temperature regulation function.

No alarm indications or external alarms are activated in this mode.

2.6.2 TEMPERATURE REGULATION

In normal operation mode the temperature can vary between 21 °C and 24 °C.

In ECO mode the temperature can vary between 10 and 27 °C.

If the ambient temperature, Ta, is above +55°C the temperature alarm will be active. .

The cooling system has the following protective functions:

Reduced running time for the compressor at high temperature

Automatic de-icing

Thermal shut down of compressor

To force the compressor to run, the inside temperature needs to be above 24 °C (in normal operation) or 25 °C (in ECO Operation)

If the outside temperature is too high, the running time of the compressor is reduced to approx 30% (9 minutes running/25 minutes resting)
