The Tower of Hercules• It’s the world’s only
fuctioning Roman lighthouse.
• The tower dates back to the 2nd century.
• The Tower rises up 112 metres over sea level.
• It´s the most internationally known symbol.
• It´s a UNESCO World Heritage since 27 June 2009.
The Millennium Obelisk• It’s got 50 tonnes of
steel and glass with scenes from history of La Coruña carved into the glass panels.
• It rises into the sky as a symbol of La Coruña of the new milennium.
San Carlos gardens
• In this garden you can find the tomb of a romantic hero, the English general John Moore, who died in 1809 defending the city against the French forces.
Santa Maria del Campo collegiate church
• It’s a small Romanesque church with Gothic influences located in the heart of the Historic City Centre in front of the Cornide Mansion.
Las Barbaras square
• It’s a little plaza where the branches of the acacias brush againts the walls of the Clarisas Convent, built over 15th century.
Maria Pita Square
• This plaza is dedicated to the heroine of La Coruña.
• It’s got a lot of bars and restaurants.
• Here you can find the impressive Municipal Palace.
Mendez Nuñez gardens
• It’s a extensive and well tended garden.
• You can find the famous plant calendar, which is renewed each day.
Santa Margarita park
• It’s got over 80,000 square metres.
• You can see a lot of cypresses, oaks, chestnuts, elms, etc.
• Here you can see the Planetarium (the House of Sciences), in the middle of the park.
Palacio de Congresos and Opera House
• It’s a monument with 1,800 seat auditorium.
• It was designed to house conventions, exhibitions and all kinds of musical performances.
