Western Norway and Greater Bergen has a huge surplus of hydropower and attractive energy prices for companies wanting to develop data centres. The connectivity to the rest of the world is excellent, to be strengthened by the new direct fibre connection from Western Norway to UK that is under realisation, the NO-UK Com, fiber cable.

Bergen is just a two hours flight from London. The region offers renewable energy from hydropower, redundant data transport with good latency and commercial areas ready for your data centre. Here you will find both greenfield for building your data centre and suitable existing buildings suitable for data centres. Recent changes in the Norwegian Tax Act has now opened up for data centre establishments.

BKK is the biggest power company in the region, and one of the largest hydropower producers in Norway. Invest in Bergen is collaborating with BKK to offer the best solutions for datacentres. The west coast of Norway has surplus of low cost power based on green renewable hydropower and is therefore ideal for energy-intensive industry.

Data centre sites in Greater Bergen

As of today three potential data centre sites in the Greater Bergen region may be ready for start-up during 2018. Invest in Bergen will develop more sites ready for build. All three sites are about one hour drive from Bergen city centre, and close to all the facilities of the city and the international airport in Bergen. These sites are also close to relevant competent workforce. Bergen has several universities and more then 30 000 students.

Børdalen data centre site – Big Data Valley

Børdalen is a green field data centre site, currently under zoning. The site is approximately 60,000m2 with a potential 100MV of surplus electrical power available in six to nine months. Possible start-up between April and June 2018.

Børdalen is located in the municipality of Samnanger, approximately 40 minutes from the centre of Bergen City, situated in one of the major hydropower production areas in Greater Bergen.

Establishing your data centre in Børdalen, will allow for convenient access to the city facilities of Bergen, an international airport and other vital infrastructure located in the region. There is also redundant fibre connectivity available.

• Site in brief: Greenfield plot - under zoning to datacenter use. Hydropower production area.

• Area size: Approx. 60 000 m2 in total.

• Owner today: REGN Datacenters, commercial owner

• Possible start date: April - June 2018

• How much of the land is settled/filled: None/Not filled

• Gradient of the land: Flat

• Drainage situation: Good

POWER

• Electrical power today: 100 MW

• Possible to upgrade: 200 MW could be available in 2019

FIBRE

• Fibre situation today: Redundant fibre 300 meters from site. Operator diversity is possible. Dark fiber & DWDM available

In just 8 to 10 weeks of deciding you could be up and running with your new data centre in Matre. Matre is a relatively small area with much hydropower.

Matre is about 80 minutes drive from Bergen city centre. Matre is ideal for data centres requiring less area, but still requesting much electrical power. The 18 000 square meters commercial area in Matre is an industrial site, ready to welcome your data centre. During 2018, 100 MW electricity could be made available in the area. Here is also redundant fibre offered.

• Site in brief: Industrial park - greenfield plot. Workshop, office and dwellings available. Close to hydropower production area.

• Area size: Total of 18 000 m2

• Owner today: Cooperation of three sites and owners.

• Possible start date: 8-10 weeks

• How much of the land is settled/filled: All/filled

• Gradient of the land: Flat

• Drainage situation: Good

POWER

• Electrical power today: Presently available 25 MW/22 kV, 8 MW at 0.4 kV available within 10 weeks

• Possible to upgrade: 2018: 100 MW+ at 0.4 kV available in 9 months

FIBRE

• Fibre situation today: Redundant fibre at grid connection point. Dark fiber & DWDM available

Matre

DaleDale offers ample computing power already available at site at 0.4 kV level. At Dale your data centre could be up and running approximately 12 weeks after your decision to invest. Dale is an old industrial village that has been developed based on the hydropower plants of the valley. Industrial buildings, ideal for data centres can be offered, and the commercial owner is ready to offer you infrastructure services. Dale also offers undeveloped areas for your purpose to build a datacentre.

Dale is about 50 minutes drive from Bergen city centre and the airport, and there is also a regular train connection between Dale and Bergen.

AREA

• Site in brief: Industrial park: Dale Fabrikker. Suitable building for data centres. Option for water cooling. BKK hydropower production area.

• Area size: Available indoor area for data centre: Up to 10 000 m2 - concrete and steel structure. Available outdoor area: 4 000 m2. Available cold water for cooling through our existing water infrastructure. The heated water may be recycled

and sold/distributed to nearby public institutions to replace use of fossil fuel used for heating.

• Owner today: One commercial owner, Dale Fabrikker AS

• Possible start date: Approx. 12 weeks

• How much of the land is settled/filled: All/filled

• Gradient of the land: Flat

• Drainage situation: Good

POWER

• Electrical power today: 20 MW at 22kV today. 20 MW at 0.4 kV within approx. 12 weeks.

• Possible to upgrade: 2018: 100 MW+ at 0.4 kV can be made available

FIBRE

• Fibre situation today: BKK Redundant present at grid connection point. Dark fiber & DWDM available
