RTU560 installed in old existing building but it is not in service. The RTU will need to be

migrated to the new equipment room when station building is complete

Radio communication to Ngong Hills repeater site had been installed

The radio is not available at the station but radio cabinet is available.

36 ft tower complete with antenna and coax available. The coax will not be able to reach the new

building when equipments are migrated. Excavation work will be necessary and a longer coax

required.

A new radio and a coax from the tower to the new building will need to be installed to get

communication to Ngong Hills site which is connected to Juja Control

Notes:

The substation is situated at Kikuyu town accessed via waiyaki way.

The substation has two 66/11KV, 23MVA transformers with an indoor 11kv switchboard. The 11kV switchboard has ABB type HD4 breakers with 2 incomers, 1 Bus Section switch and 6 feeders.

The control room accommodates the 11kV switchboard, the transformer and 66kV line protection panels and tap changer control panels.

There exists a SCADA equipment in the station but it is not terminated to the process, the cables have been done from the RTU/MC and lie in the trenches

4. RTU

It is proposed to use the existing RTU in the station. Average length of cables shall be 15 meters and shall all be for bottom entry. The existing transducers are mounted in the11kv panels and 66kv tap changer control panels. These are for local metering.


The marshalling cabinet is located in the scada room as shown in the layout drawing and is of an average cable route of 15 meters from the switchgear.


There is no existing Telecommunication equipment for the SCADA Network.

A communication mast however exists and a UHF Radio is proposed for this station.

This would communicate with Ngong Hills UHF Repeater station as there is no direct propagation path to Juja Rd NCC.

The new radio equipment would be installed in the communications cabinet in the control room. See room layout drawing. The distance from the new RTU is about 5 meters.

The substation has 3no 66kV lines, 1 66kV bus-section switch, two 23MVA transformer with an indoor and one 5MVA transformer. All equipment is included in the siemens scada system, except one 23 MVA transformer which is still under construction with no scada .It has an 11kv switchgear board located in an adjacent control room. The board has Siemens type breakers with 3 incomers and 9 feeders.

There is a Siemens SCADA equipment in this station.

There is a PLC at site but it is not in service. An ADSS fiber optic cable is also under

installation to link Limuru S/S to Nairobi North S/S.

A fibre terminal equipment is proposed for the communication in this station.

Notes:

The substation is situated along Kiganjo Avenue off Mombasa Road. There is an existing FOX515

multiplexer which shares its cabinet with an ETL equipment for PLC. The equipment is currently

in the old control building.

There also exists an RTU 560 and its marshalling cubicle in the station but they are not installed

The station is a 66/11KV substation with 66kV equipment located outdoors. There is a new 11kV, indoor switchboard type ABB , currently being installed at the station. The control and protection equipment for the transformers and 66kV lines are located in the old control building. The 11kV breakers are as shown in the room layout drawing of the new control building There are four 66KV lines and fifteen 11KV feeders and two transformers.
