Site Access: The site is easily accessible from Duke St. at Landmark Mall road towards

Pentagon where you branch to 100 S Pickett St. towards American mechanic on which the site is

adjacent to it. There is only one construction entrance where equipment and deliveries are made

through unto the site where they turn around at the open area because the size of the site was

small.

Demolition and Site Clearing: There was an existing residential building on the site which was

demolished for the new project to take place. The was “buried city” found when excavation took

place. This debris had already affected some part of the land so the contractor made them

excavate those and dispose-off the site. A treated soil was brought in to be used for backfilling.

Protection of Adjacent Property: The project is surrounded by a standard construction fence and

notification signs were put in place starting from the walk way, the entrance and the fence itself.

Security has not been a problem although the site is surrounded by Houses and Companies.

According to the superinterndent, they constructed the lanes on the site to reduce air dust

pollution. At the immediate start, they sprinkle water at the site which was supplied by the Site

Storm Water Representative (SSWR) before work commences.

Utility Availability (Temporary): The project had a stand by generator to power wielding

machines which this was provided by the subcontractor.

Utility Availability (Permanent): Permanent power will be provided by Site Storm Water

Representative (SSWR). There is an underground transformer located on S. Pickett St.

Alexandria, Virginia. The ductbank has already been installed to the street and also installed on

the site but they are waiting for the work to reach some stage for SSWR to connect the

permanent service. Permanent water, sewer, sanitary, and sprinkler service will be provided by

the SSWR. Since the site is too small, there is no communication services provided because the

superinterndent is able to reach the subcontractors with ease.

Surface Topography and Drainage: A large underground storm water management system was

put in place on the site. This system was designed to capture and treat the existing site as well as

planned future development on the site. Therefore, the necessary preventive measures had been

installed and put in place.

Subsurface Conditions: When excavation began, the contractor discovered that the soil

wouldn’t be suitable for backfill which was recognize as organic and silty sand which was in

accordance to the geotechnical report. The contractor imported some treated control fill for the

project and the excavated one disposed-off site. According to the soil type and the topography,

the contractor adopted stepped foundation and introduce damp proof course in it as well as

raising a footing for the frame structure to rest on.

Equipment: The site utilizes standard heavy equipment for excavation and setting large

components in place. The majority of the equipment is provided by the subcontractors where the

equipment is owned by the company.

Special Equipment: There is no special equipment on the job site.
