SWISS FEDERATION OF PRIVATE SCHOOLS
With its four languages, varied cultures, beautiful landscapes and peaceful political environment, Switzerland is not only a prime destination for tourism but also plays a leading role in the international education field. For over a century, Swiss private schools – offering individualised, innovative and high-standard educational opportunities – have been one of the top quality products of Switzerland.

The value of Swiss Education
In today’s globalized world, the tradition of excellence of the services offered by Switzerland is well established. The diver-sity and the quality of its academic institutions are famous: they range from top universities to boarding primary and high schools offering Swiss, French, English and American diplomas, from hotel and tourism academies to institutes specialized in languages, finance and commerce, from exci-ting summer and winter holiday camps to classic finishing schools for young women.
Swiss education institutions have adapted remarkably well to the globalized and extremely competitive contemporary life. Research, an essential component of success in science and technology, is highly advanced in public universities and technological institutes and the number of Nobel Prize laureates coming from their ranks is impressive. In order to achieve excellence, private schools associations have set up strict quality control procedures of the academic programs of their members.
The well known “International Baccalaureate” degree, adopted by more and more high schools world-wide, originates in Switzerland. The reputation of Swiss hotel and tourism schools largely stems from the balance they have been able to achieve in their programs between a practical knowledge of the various jobs of the hotel industry and the most advanced management techniques. So, Swiss educa-tion, because of the reliability and the in-depth quality of the programs offered, provides all the tools necessary for a successful career.
Swiss private schools reach out to the world!
Swiss private schools offer a cosmopolitan, internationally recognised education for all ages to nearly 100'000 pupils from Switzerland and over 100 other countries. Students from Europe, North and South America, Asia, Russia, India, Africa, the Middle East, Scandinavia and many other parts of the world, are all currently enrolled in Swiss private schools.
As it is not mass production that characterises Swiss indus-tries, but rather specialised high quality products, the same goes for private education. One of the attractions of Swiss private schools is the variety of international curricula they
offer, courses which enable students to pursue higher educa-tion in the country of their choice. Custom-tailored pro-grams, such as special training for talented young athletes, language support and integration classes for non-native speakers, finishing programs, hotel management or business degrees and language courses complete a high-standard individualised educational offer.
Minds are challenged, but sportive achievement is also en-couraged: the fascinating settings of the Alps, glaciers, rivers and lakes are the perfect environment for numerous outdoor activities and sports. A wide variety of winter and summer sports, ranging from skiing, football, basketball, swimming and tennis to horse-back riding and hiking complete our academic programs.
The environment to success
The members of the Swiss Federation of Private Schools have made a choice: to offer the best environment for you or your children’s schooling. We invite you to enjoy high-quality education, to combine adventure and learning, to travel in a country of diversity, to meet students from all over the world by sharing a very special lifestyle. Our smaller guests will experience a new home, offering the love and attention they require. Our older students will appreciate the excitement of living abroad and making new friends for life. Our boarding schools can offer a healthy community life embedded in a perfect infrastructure.
“Swiss International Schools”
All the schools listed in this directory are members of the Swiss Federation of Private Schools (SFPS), which guarantees that they satisfy various quality criteria. The brochure mainly focuses on international boarding schools. The first section of the guide presents the schools situated in the French speak-ing part of Switzerland; the second section is dedicated to the educational institutions in the German part of Switzer-land. We hope this guide will allow you a quick, informative overview and that this in turn will facilitate your search for a suitable school. Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Aiglon College is an international boarding school in Chesieres, bringing together 365 students, ages 9 to 18, from 52 nationalities. Aiglon has developed an international curriculum leading to Cambridge IGCSEs and the Internatio-nal Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Classes are taught in English. There are 8 boarding houses with 45 students in each house. The staff/pupil ratio of 1:5 and the average of 8 students in each class permits the school to care for each student and provide learning support. Aiglon strives to support students in gaining entry to the best universities. Music, drama and art occupy a prominent place in the curriculum and there are performances throughout the year including Parents’ Wee-kend. Sports and games are keenly supported with a new Sports Centre. The school operates a unique Alpine expedi-tions programme. Cultural excursions are arranged to major European cities and there is a commitment to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. The school is committed to local and global community service. Aiglon offers a summer school in July and August.
Aiglon offers community service choices to students. Locally, we run three annual dinners for the elderly of the Commune. Overseas, we have three projects with schools and orphanages in Peru, Thailand and Rwanda. Aiglon also participates in annual Round Square Conferences. Each senior house (6) sponsors one scholarship student.

Brillantmont International School has been in the same family since its foundation in 1882 and welcomes 100 board-ers and 50 day students aged 11–18 from over 35 different countries. The small size of the school creates a unique, closely supportive environment in which every student feels at home.
Students follow courses leading to British (IGCSE, A Level) examinations or an American High School Graduation Diploma (with SATs) or a combination of both. An average class size of twelve and technology at the heart of learn-ing keep academic objectives in sight. All students continue to Higher Education. Personalised timetables challenge the students to excel in their strengths.
All students are encouraged to explore the world around them by joining the numerous weekend excursions. After class, extra-curricular activities develop interests via creative, sporting or humanitarian activities. A brand new multipur-pose hall in the centre of the campus offers numerous sports and cultural activities.
In July and August, a Summer Course welcomes 10–16 year olds to study English or French with a full activity and leisure programme. Students stay for two to six weeks and many return year after year.
Brillantmont is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Why Brillantmont?“because of the strong international make-up, its accreditations, the flexibility of its academic programmes and the school’s integration of technology.”Parents of Anna, 11th Grade student.
