Participation through our fun and interesting activities has been a topic of
several past articles. Our Activities Coordinators, our own “dubs” – Ward
and Wachowicz – are bringing us Pickleball and Bocce. Details of each will be forthcoming but the first Pickleball introductory session was just held.
The plan is to make Bocce one of our Co-ed activities, but if there
is interest in co-ed PickleBall, that can be included.
Greg Hughes just introduced us, on his Saturday Tours, to the
Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek. It is a unique garden of
drought tolerant and succulent plants from around the world.
Following a very interesting docent tour, we had a group picnic in the beau
tiful garden. These Saturday tours have taken us to many interesting and
educational sites around the Bay area; join one or all of them.
There are many of us that love and aend the arts – from plays to musicals
and even artist showings. I’ve heard comments from a few that they read
about forthcoming performances but overlook scheduling and purchasing
tickets. How about forming a co-ed activity group that would schedule and
get tickets for local performances – maybe even an occasional SF excursion?
While on the Arts, I know that we have several good songsters in our midst.
For those, it would be fun to have a singing group, at the minimum to join
Robbie and Paul in our Birthday Boy songs.
If any of the above ideas appeal to you or if you have an idea for a new ac
tivity, the first step is to contact Fred, Mike, me, or Michael Barrington. We
can help find others that may be interested in participating and working
with you. An activity can start with as few as 2-4 that share your interests.
All activities must be approved by your Executive Board for insurance pur
poses.
Activities are a perfect venue for introducing guests to our Branch. Bring
guests prospects to an activity of their interest and follow that with our
monthly luncheon.
While you are reading this issue of Trampas Topics, right now either for
ward it to your spouse’s email or print a copy for her. If she misses the
Spring Fling because you forgot to notify her, you’re in the dog house!
Go Warriors!

The Computer & Tech group does not have a meet
ing in June. The next meeting will be on Thursday,
July 18th.
Computer & Technology group meetings are a
great way to learn about using computers, mobile
devices, and various other technologies. Meeting
aendees often have a wide variety of skill levels
spanning from complete novices to individuals
who have “worked in the business”. At each meet
ing we typically have a technology presentation
and we also encourage individuals to come a lile
early or to hang around during breaks to “ask the
experts” about their technology questions or prob
lems. Guests and significant others are welcome.
To explore past presentation topics, checkout the
CAT Web page (a2cat.sirinc2.org).

Meeting Speaker Lile SIR Michael Barrington
Our speaker for June will be Susan Wood. A San
Francisco Bay Area photographer, Susan chases
light from land, sea & sky. Shooting with passion
and high energy, her ability to “capture the mo
ment” shines through in the wide variety of photo
graphs she delivers. Susan has a natural sense of
adventure and excitement. She will get the best
shot even if it requires boarding a helicopter or rid
ing backwards on a motorcycle to get it. Susan
Wood has captured many moments of the ongoing
life of the USS Hornet and the Blue Angels.
SIR Travel Don Murray
As travel commiee chairman, I receive updates on
trips from other SIRS branches. One that caught
my aention was a 5 day trip to New Orleans over
New Years! In the past, I visited the hotel featured
(under the Name New Orleans Marrio) and is on
Canal Street, the main street in the area near Bour
bon Street. The trip also includes a choice of activi
ties. I will have a brochure and sign-up forms at
the next meeting.
I am available for questions on this and other travel
questions.

$UMS in Retirement meets again on Wed June 26
at 8 AM at the Legends Restaurant at Diablo Creek
Golf Course on Port Chicago Highway, Concord,
just north of Hwy 4.
Our guest speaker will be one of our regulars, Tom
Kopas of Pring Turner Capital Group. He will dis
cuss: Continued Bull Market? Or is a Cyclical Bear
Market Ahead? Come and find out which.
“Mexican Train” is a domino game which uses a
set of Double Twelve Dominoes. From 2 to 8 can
play. Each player draws 11 to 15 dominoes. The
number of dominoes each player draws depends
on the number of players. The object of the game is
to play all your dominoes. When you draw your
hand, you set it up so that the adjacent dominoes
match. During the play of a round there are things
that can derail your train so that you cannot play.
This can make the game very interesting and a lot
of FUN!
Contact Richard Madden if you are interested in
participating in this activity..

ment format with play alternating between local
courses and courses that may be 10 to 50 miles
away.
In addition to the Tournament format, Special
Events such as Match Play, Best Ball, Scramble, and
others are also periodically scheduled.
Those playing in the 18-hole group must be mem
bers of the Northern California Golf Association
(NCGA) and establish a handicap index. You may
join the NCGA through our SIR club or through
another club.
Foursomes in both the 18-hole and 9-hole groups
are arranged so that players can meet and enjoy
playing with most, if not all, the other players in
the branch.
All our events are listed in the Trampas Topics and
on our web site at branch116.org/116-golf. Join up
with us and enjoy outings with a great bunch of
guys at some great courses with reasonable prices.
