The recent weather has allowed some time to reorganize my stash and to complete some sewing projects; some of those projects will be found for sale at our Quilt Show in May. We have a little less than two months to get ready for May 4-5. Some of my older quilts need sleeves so they can be displayed, applications need to be filled out with a picture attached for identification for entry in the show. So many people are busily working to make the Quilt Show a huge success. If we all volunteer some time the load will be lighter for those in charge. If you haven’t had a chance to sign-up for a volunteer spot yet, at the April meeting be sure to check out the lists of jobs still available and put your name down. The success of the Quilt Show is what helps fund the Guild for two years. Those funds and dues are what provide our programs. Norma, thank you for your hard work on preparing for our Neo-natal sew-in for March. It is like a beehive in action in the meeting room that day. Shelly Johnson from Sunshine Stitches will speak at the April meeting, I hope to see you there. The shop’s name sounds so cheery. Pretty fabrics and lots of ideas can be found within the store. I am looking forward to Spring and nice weather and emerging flowers and enjoying our deck. It is a great place to do hand-work. Let’s do all that we can to make our Quilt Show a huge success. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

It lifts my spirit to see the sun shining, blue sky and the ice disappearing. The

recent weather has allowed some time to reorganize my stash and to complete

some sewing projects; some of those projects will be found for sale at our Quilt

Show in May. We have a little less than two months to get ready for May 4-5.

Some of my older quilts need sleeves so they can be displayed, applications need

to be filled out with a picture attached for identification for entry in the show. If

we all display a couple of quilts, we can easily fill ISC. I am entering a quilt to be

judged, my first time, and want to see the feedback from the judges.

So many people are busily working to make the Quilt Show a huge success. If we

all volunteer some time the load will be lighter for those in charge. If you haven’t

had a chance to sign-up for a volunteer spot yet, at the April meeting be sure to

check out the lists of jobs still available and put your name down. The success of

the Quilt Show is what helps fund the Guild for two years. Those funds and dues

are what provide our programs.

Norma, thank you for your hard work on preparing for our Neo-natal sew-in for

March. It is like a beehive in action in the meeting room that day.

Shelly Johnson from Sunshine Stitches will speak at the April meeting, I hope to

see you there. The shop’s name sounds so cheery. Pretty fabrics and lots of ideas

can be found within the store.

I am looking forward to Spring and nice weather and emerging flowers and

enjoying our deck. It is a great place to do hand-work.

Let’s do all that we can to make our Quilt Show a huge success.

Happy Spring, Happy Easter to everyone.

Marie

Quilt Show 2019 - “Out Of This World”! Out of This World” - is just a few weeks away, May 4 & 5, 2019. With every guild member pitching in, it will be a wonderful show, as always! Many hands make light work, and we are asking all guild members to support the quilt show by:

1. entering quilt(s) - registration form on website, deadline April 4th 2. donating fabric, books, etc. to Lovable Leftovers 3. making small items to sell in Lovable Leftovers 4. donating items for Silent Auction 5. volunteering before, during, and after the show, sign-up sheets at guild meetings 6. selling raffle tickets for our beautiful raffle quilt 7. inviting family and friends to attend our show

Thanks so much! Phyllis Campbell, Quilt Show 2019 Chair

Silent Auction - for May's Quilt Show 2019

Additional Quilt Show Notes

Any vendor suggestions are welcomed, as some shops and businesses no longer vend at shows. It

doesn’t have to be quilting related. We all need to support our vendors at the show, as they support our

guild, and the booth fees help to pay our rent for the show space.

It’s time to sell ads for our quilt show program, and we would appreciate a volunteer or two to coordinate

this effort. We welcome all ads in our program, and have sizes ranging from business card to full page.

The star medallions for the show ribbons are due by the March meeting, and the Color Challenge banners

are also due. Quilts can be registered at any time, even if they’re not finished, now through the April 2019

Guild meeting. Thank you for all your contributions that make our show a beautiful one -- we can’t wait to

see your quilts, after all - it’s not a quilt show without quilts!

The "Silent Auction" booth is an important part of the Quilt Show and we're looking for donations. We're hoping that some of the 'mini' groups might consider donating an item or a 'theme' basket which have been popular in the past. A Basket doesn't have to be quilt related. Items should be a value greater than $15.00. Could be one item or several items together. Items can donated by individuals also, So if you have something which you think is appropriate for auctioning at the Quilt Show, we would like to here about if.

If you have any questions, ideas, or suggestions call or talk to Barb Clucas 815-519-6796 or Karen Grover - 815-988-0538. We will be collecting items after the 1st of the year.

Entry Form is due no later than April 4, 2019

PLEASE NOTE: The registration and judging committees and the quilt show judges reserve the right to re-classify to a different category any quilt entered for judging. This may be necessary when there are not enough entries in a given category, when a quilt fails to meet the stated size requirement or for other reasons. FOR LARGE, MEDIUM, SMALL QUILTS: Please enter your quilt in the technique category (pieced or applique) that best describes the preponderance of work on that quilt. There may be elements of both but one or the other is incidental to the construction of the quilt (e.g. piecing large background blocks together for applique or appliqueing a few elements onto a pieced quilt). The mixed category should be chosen when your quilt is more or less an even blend of both piecing and applique, with no more than a 60%-40% split between the two. NOTE: MINIATURE QUILTS WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE SMALL QUILTS CATEGORY. ART QUILTS: An art quilt is an exploration of a concept or an idea featuring textile manipulation, mixed media, unconventional colors or textures. An art quilt may be abstract or representational.

CONTEMPORARY/MODERN: These quilts are inspired by contemporary design aesthetics and may include the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast or graphic areas of solid color, improvisational piecing and an emphasis on negative space. They often employ classic and traditional quilt designs in updated ways.

BLOCK-OF-THE-MONTH/KITS: Quilts in this category include ones made from purchased block-of-the-month patterns using either fabric supplied with the pattern or one’s own choice of fabric. Kit quilts are made from complete packages, including pattern and fabric, with minimal substitutions of the quilter’s own fabric.

THEME: OUT OF THIS WORLD: In 2019, we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of humans landing on the moon. This achievement ushered in an era of space exploration that has seen missions to the moon, other planets in our solar system and celestial bodies outside our own universe. Using this as your inspiration, crate a quilt that celebrates the vast worlds beyond our own – the sun, the moon, the stars or whatever you can imagine. Each side of the quilt should be between 20” and 50”; the quilt can be square or rectangular.

REGISTRATION CHECKLIST

□ Does your quilt have a label? □ Does your quilt have a 4” sleeve? □ If your quilt is over 90” long, is your sleeve sewn 90” from the bottom of the quilt? □ Does your quilt conform to the size requirements?

8

□ Have you completely filled in all required information on your registration form? □ Have you attached a color picture of your work (remember, this does not have to be a picture of your finished quilt) □ If you are registering judged quilts, have you enclosed your check in the correct amount?
