SingularityU Global Branding, Communications and Social Media Guidelines
Many of our SU Alumni have organized amazing initiatives in
their local communities. As this extraordinary community of
people, events, competitions, and spaces around the world
grows it is important that we create a few rules and
guidelines.
These guidelines will strengthen the brand for your local innovation ecosystem
including, SingularityU Chapters, SingularityU Salons, SingularityU Summits,
Innovation Hubs, SingularityU Global Impact Challenge and other events and
activities.
This is a basic overview of the SingularityU identity system. It covers proper use
of our identity and complete specifications for print and on-screen applications.
If you have question about about using this guide, please contact:
1: Introduction
4
What is SingularityU Global?
SingularityU Global embodies the alumni community of Singularity University, at
the forefront of driving ideas, impact and change through exponential
technologies to address humanity’s grand challenges in their cities and regions.
SingularityU will act as the prefix of a local brand extension that communities will
be able to use to create a local identity for their community (Chapter) as well as
brand its activities (Salons, Summits, Innovation Hubs and other events, etc). In
general, the SingularityU prefix should not show up by itself — mostly to minimize
confusion. It should always be followed by either Global, country name or city
name to indicate global or community identities.
Singularity University (SU), a benefit corporation, educates, inspires and
empowers leaders to apply exponential technologies to solve humanity’s grand
challenges. SU is committed to creating positive and sustainable global impact
through the billions of people who benefit from our programs and activities in
three core areas: Education, Innovation and Community. SU’s global ecosystem of
individuals, businesses, institutions, investors, and NGOs is active in more than
90 countries.

Using the SingularityU Chapter brand
In order to maintain and preserve the SingularityU Global
brand identity, the only acceptable versions of the
SingularityU brand are those appearing in these guidelines.
Only approved SingularityU Chapter logos should be used
to brand your Chapter and related Chapter events. Please
make sure that your SingularityU Chapter logo appears on
all outbound communications and on all PR and marketing.
Guidelines for generating and using Chapter logos follow.
2: Chapter branding
7
How to name your Chapter
SingularityU Community Chapters are
named after the local community where
the Chapter is situated. All Chapter
names start with SingularityU, followed
by a space and then your city name, and
the word Chapter.
Examples
• SingularityU Paris Chapter
• SingularityU Mexico City Chapter
• SingularityU Dubai Chapter
Only use the name approved for your specific
Community Chapter.
Do not use the name Singularity University.
Do not use SingularityU without also using your city
name and the word Chapter.
2: Chapter branding
Naming Chapter events
Community events should be named after the local
city where the Chapter is situated.
All Chapter names start with SingularityU, followed by
a space, your city name and event name.
Examples
• SingularityU Paris Salon
• SingularityU Mexico City Salon

Chapter logo
The SingularityU Community Chapter logo is used
to brand and market a local Chapter.
The artwork is based on a common template, which is
available to you as a vector file (AI, EPS, SVG) on the
SingularityU wiki (https://sites.google.com/a/
singularityu.org/suglobal/branding-info/logos) or by
request from [email protected]
Individual Community Chapter logos contain the
Singularity University mark, the SingularityU name, your
specific name, and the word Chapter. These templates
include an area to type in the city name so that it
automatically appears in the correct place in the logo.
The Community Chapter logo may appear on one or two
lines, depending on context.
The SingularityU Global Logo Generator may be used to
create web-ready PNG image files.

Using the logo templates
We’ve created a unified system for
SingularityU logos, so they all retain the
same look and feel.
We provide different templates that you can
download and customize for your local Chapter,
Salons and events. Each includes a text field for you
to type in your event name (in Nexa Bold) so it
automatically appears in the correct place.
For your specific chapter and related events, you may
use the official SingularityU logo templates that will
allow you to type your name into the logo. The logo
templates allow you to work with vector files, which
may be used for any type of printing.

The SingularityU Global Logo Generator
is also available to assist in the creation
of Community Chapter, Salon and
Summit logos. The Logo Generator
automatically produces custom PNG

Which colors are needed?
2: Chapter branding
Color information is included in a file and
interpreted by the output device
(printer, screen). Professional offset
printing uses four-color process inks,
which build color out of cyan, magenta,
yellow and black (CMYK), or spot color
inks (such as Pantone®). Screens display
color with red, green, and blue (RGB)
points of light. Hex numbers are code
that designate RGB colors for use in an
HTML environment (web or ebooks).
Color system is noted at the end of our logo file
names:
• sRGB represents standard RGB
• bw represents black/white grayscale printing
• 4C stands for four-color and is an abbreviation for
CMYK offset printing
• P stands for spot-color printing designated with
Pantone specifications.
16
White or black for the background color
2: Chapter branding
It is preferable to use white or black as a
solid background color for the
SingularityU and chapter event logos, as
shown. Do not place the SingularityU
Community Chapter logo on other colors
or on photographs, patterns or
illustrative backgrounds.
CHAPTER LOGO ON WHITE
CHAPTER LOGO ON BLACK

Clear space
To remain completely legible and
ensure that the SingularityU
Community Chapter logo is presented
in the best possible manner, a
minimum buffer zone of “clear space”
should always be maintained around
the entire perimeter of the logo.
The largest dot from the SingularityU
mark may be used as a unit of
measurement in order to maintain
consistent clear space. The buffer
zone should be at least 3x stacked
dots on each side.
Logo usage

Other logos, graphics or copy
should be kept out of this zone.

Logo usage
Minimum size
Proportions must stay consistent when
the logo is resized. To ensure legibility,
never use the SingularityU Community
Chapter logo at very small sizes on
screen or in print.
As a general guideline, do not size the
logo so that the overall height of the
mark is less than 50 pixels (on screen)
or .69 inches (in print).

Logo usage
Placement
Placing the SingularityU Community
Chapter logo on any type of
communication—an ad, a web page, a
sign—requires positioning and sizing
decisions. It’s important to position the
logo consistently and with maximum
brand visibility for the design of the
piece. In general, the logo should appear
flush left or right within the brand area
—centered vertically or in one of the
four corners. Centering the logo
horizontally is acceptable, but a less
dynamic solution.

Chapter names in copy
When referring to SingularityU Global in copy
it should be written as “SingularityU Global.”
Chapter names should be written as
“SingularityU Place-name Chapter” (example:
SingularityU Dubai Chapter).
Note that there is no space between
“Singularity” and “U,” but there is always a
space between SingularityU and the name. If
the name has two or more parts, they should
appear normally with spaces between each
part (example: SingularityU Los Angeles
Chapter).

Chapter website: guidelines
Once your Community Chapter is approved, it will be your responsibility to purchase your
Chapters url and set up your Chapters website. Do not purchase your chapters url until
your chapter is approved. Note: Singularity University HQ has acquired several Chapter
urls. If your chapter url is not available please email [email protected] and HQ
will transfer the domain to you providing we have acquired it.
The Chapter URL needs to mirror the approved name of your SingularityU Chapter, i.e.,
SingularityUParisChapter.com.
The .com domain should be your first choice, you should also acquire the top-level domain
of your country (e.g., .fr for France). as well as the .org and .net just to have, to prevent
cyber squatters.
This URL will belong to your chapter as long as your chapter holds a valid chapter license.
It will be your chapter’s responsibility to create this website on www.singularityu
(approve city name)Chapter.com and update your chapter page on SingularityU.org,
when this functionality launches.
Note: you may only acquire the domain name related to your approved chapter. You may
not domain squat on other SingularityU URLs.

Setting up a Salon
Singularity University has designed a new community
driven event, called a SingularityU Salon. The objective of a
SingularityU Salon is to foster an understanding of
Singularity University, highlight local innovation and impact
stories in your region and keep the community connected
between the less frequent larger events and summits. This
will serve as an additional tool that alumni can add to those
which have already been available for engaging the larger
community: namely, Global Impact Competitions, Summits,
Field Innovation Exchanges, and connecting local
government and corporations with SU for Custom
Programs. SingularityU Salons are small, approximately
100-person events, that happen with some frequency —
usually monthly or quarterly.
3: Salon branding
The most important parts of
your Salon are the stories,
ideas and connections your
Salon generates. Please
upload your stories and
photos and tag them
#singularityu and
#singularityu(city name).
41
Setting up a Salon
Naming
The naming convention for a SingularityU Salon will follow
the naming of your event Chapter. You will use your
approved Chapter name and add the word Salon. So a Salon
organized by SingularityU Paris Chapter will be called
SingularityU Paris Salon. This is the name and branding you
will use for all communication with the outside world,
including communication with speakers, attendees, social
media, partners, web properties etc.

If you are doing this Salon as part of your SingularityU

be an extension of existing web properties. This means your

SingularityU Community Chapter website.
Your Twitter hashtag and other social media will be branded
according to your Chapter branding. You will not create a
new hashtag or build a new website just for your Salons.

Social media ownership and rules
If for any reason a SingularityU Chapter ceases to exist
(the license expires or is revoked), all social media
properties revert back to Singularity University or the
SingularityU Country Partner.
In the case that a Salon license is revoked, all social media properties must be
removed.
In the spirit of fostering a great local and global community it is the
responsibility of the SingularityU Chapter Ambassador and the SingularityU
Country Partner in each city to ensure that there is access, collaboration and
cross promotion on all social media platforms for all SingularityU local events,
programs and activities.
Social media cross-promotion should happen between all SingularityU
programs, products, activities, innovations and ideas in each city and where
possible and appropriate between cities, communities and countries.
4: Chapter and Salon social media
49
Twitter is a dynamic tool to highlight and promote exciting
ideas and innovations going on in your community, promote
Chapter activities, promote Chapter Salons and events and
keep your community, the Global SU Community and SU HQ
updated.
The name of the Twitter ID should mirror your approved
chapter name, using the following format: @SUCity. For
example, @SUParis. If that ID is unavailable, try adding an
underscore, for example, @SU_Paris. Whenever possible,
your Twitter and Instagram handles should be identical, as
well as any other custom URLs you use across social
media.
4: Chapter and Salon social media
50
We suggest setting up a Facebook page to promote your
Chapter. You are a global community and the best way to
engage is through Facebook and other social media. Your
Facebook page name should mirror the approved name of
your SingularityU Community Chapter — SingularityU (city).
Suggested Facebook activities:
• Highlight activities happening at your Chapter
• Highlight events and activities at other Chapters
• Highlight alumni and their achievements
• Post video and photos from your Salons and other Chapter activities
• Engage your community with ideas and questions
• Highlight and promote Summits or any other SingularityU activities
happening in your region
4: Chapter and Salon social media
51
We encourage you to take out an Instagram account for
your SingularityU Community Chapter. The name of the
account should mirror your approved Chapter name, using
the same format as Twitter. For example, @SUParis. If that
ID is unavailable, try adding an underscore, for example,
@SU_Paris. Whenever possible, your Twitter and Instagram
handles should be identical. While you can abbreviate your
Twitter and Instagram names to for example @SUParis all
other social media must use your full approved name, for
example: SingularityU Paris.

52
Flickr
All images from chapter activities should be uploaded to
your chapter Flickr account and tagged: SingularityU(city
