Singing Frog AHS Preschool All AHS site programs are based on a holisc approach to early childhood experiences which emphasize the needs of the child within the family, school and community through the following six components: • Culture and language • Nutrion • Educaon • Social Support Programming • Health promoon • Parent Involvement Aboriginal Head Start (AHS) Components These preschool programs are for Aboriginal children ages 3-5 years old and follow the playbased philosophy. We strive to provide cur- riculum in an Aboriginal context with acvies that foster develop- ment in social, emoonal, physical, spiritual and cognive skills. Our Program Our preschool programs are designed to include parent involve- ment. We have an open door policy, which means that at any me you are welcome into the centre. Here are some ways we encour- age parents and guardians to be involved in the program: • Come into the classroom and parcipate in the day’s acvies. • Share family tradions and culture. • Parent, Elder Advisory Commiee involvement. • Join sub-commiees. • Assist with field trips. • Assist with program and curriculum development. • Assist with the development of Aboriginal resources. Parent Involvement • To foster the spiritual, emoonal, intellectual and physical growth of the children. • To foster a desire for lifelong learning. • To support parents and extended family as the primary teachers and caregivers of their children. • To foster a holisc approach to learning and living based on the values of Aboriginal peoples. • To foster the preservaon of Aboriginal culture. Program Goals (Monday to Thursday) Morning and Aſternoon classes are available. A nutrion program which follows Canada’s Guide to Healthy Eang and approved by the Community Nutrionist is provided in each class.
