2012, Singapore received 14.5 million visitors with total tourism receipts of S$23.1 billion. In terms of business travelers, Singapore received 3.35 million, a 4% increase compared to the previous year, with a total expenditure of S$5.73 billion. The Business Travel and Meetings, Incen-tives, Conventions and Exhibitions (BTMICE) sector has become a key economic contributor.

Singapore’s MICE landscape is truly one of a kind. coMMunicaSia and broadcaStaSiaCommunicAsia and BroadcastAsia is one of Singapore’s top exhibitions, occupying a total of 58,000 square me-tres. Last year, CommunicAsia and Enterprise IT brought its largest ever contingent of more than 130 satellite communications companies.

The show attracted more than 35,000 international trade attendees from the world’s leading ICT companies such as Dell, Huawei, Oracle, Telekomunikasi Indone-sia, Samsung, Tata Communications, amongst others. CommunicAsia last year focused on the rise of the em-powered consumer and areas that businesses should be aware of in view of the evolving landscape.

“There is a good representation of international ex-hibitors at CommunicAsia and I’m impressed with the show. In particular, the solutions provided by the exhibi-tors from China attracted my attention because of their

competitive pricing. I have found useful contacts for fu-ture partnerships. This is my second time at the show and I will be back again for the next show,” says Irene Mayarani from PT Ketrosden Triasmitra in Indonesia.

BroadcastAsia highlights the latest updates across the entire broadcasting and film ecosystem, from acqui-sition, production and management system to post pro-duction, distribution and delivery. It is also Asia’s leading event for the broadcasting and entertainment industry and succeeded in attracting a total of 16,000 attendees and 715 exhibitors from the broadcasting, film, pro-audio and live event industries. “I found the sessions ‘the evolu-tion of connected tV’ and ‘Delivering ultra High Definition in asia’ particularly interesting, mainly because they an-swered some of the key technical questions that I wanted to ask,” says Qi Deng, VP of Sales, Altobeam, China.

aSia tV ForuM & Market (atF) / ScreenSingaporeFilm and content markets, ATF and ScreenSingapore, were co-located together for the second time in 2013. ATF is Asia’s leading entertainment content market (to buy, to sell, finance, distribute, and co-produce), across all platforms. It is a key platform for Asia Pacific buyers to engage with the top players in the entertainment indus-try from around the world.

For the first time ever, ATF and ScreenSingapore had a participation of 16 international delegations, with new representations from Indonesia, Russia and South Korea. The attendance at the market shot up by 10% as 1,179 companies from over 60 countries gathered to trade and network. This increase in participation is a significant indicator that the combined TV and film market is pro-gressing from strength to strength.

ATF and ScreenSingapore are also very relevant to the Indonesian market. Rangga Maya Barack-Evans, Manag-ing Director of PT Merantau Films sees ATF as a network-ing base for Asian countries. “The event is a good platform for talent hunting and sussing out co-production oppor-tunities,” says Maya. Edwin Nazir, Producer from Angka Fortuna Sinema says, “During this event, I can meet many people in the film industry. I don’t have to pay a lot to get here due to very close distance to Jakarta.”

There are also many participants outside of the South-east Asian region that find the shows relevant. Seo Jang Ho, Head of International Sales and Acquisitions at CJ E&M Media B/U, from South Korea, says: “ATF is a growing and vibrant market. We witnessed increased traffic at our booth this year, and were kept busy with back-to-back meetings all day. The show is well-timed, and attracts many Southeast Asian buyers who may not necessarily visit other major international events.”

Attesting to ATF and ScreenSingapore’s role as a catalyst for the Asia content industry and a sign of its strategic place on the calendar, committed exhibitors have pre-booked 80% of the showfloor for 2014, which is scheduled to take place in December 2014.

Aside from the substantive ATF and ScreenSinga-pore program, new additions were launched last year. The ATF Animation Lab is designed to present Asian ani-mation projects to international financiers and was newly launched and warmly welcomed.

Irwan Junaidy, Partner at The R & D Studio in Ma-laysia, who was pitching to the Walt Disney Company, exclaims: “For a small and new studio like ours, the ATF Animation Lab gave us a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet, network and, beyond that, understand the kind of content they wanted. Furthermore, we are now on their radar and we have even scheduled appointments for future meetings. We have also met with Nickelode-on and Turner during the networking sessions and it all seems rather promising.”

The three-day closed door event wrapped-up with happy participants and equally happy financiers from Australian Broadcasting Corporation, BBC Worldwide, The Walt Disney Company, Turner International Asia Pacific Limited, Viacom International Media Networks, ZDFE.junior and ZDF German Television.

and vibrant, while a sustainable one showcases resil-ience of its environmental, social and economic systems over the long term. While these may seem like contem-porary buzzwords, it would be useful to think of them as timeless goals in building cities.

Like any other city in the world, Singapore is progres-sively developing. Its extreme resource constraints and overcrowding have compelled the city-state to confront liveability and sustainability challenges since its inde-pendence in 1965. Singapore’s core value proposition in these events is the demonstration of expertise in tackling its limitations in the processes and systems it has built to make Singa-pore a pleasant home for its people.

One of the flagship events featuring Singapore’s ur-ban solutions ecosystem is the 3-in-1 summits of World Cities Summit (WCS), Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) and CleanEnviro Summit Singapore. Themed “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Common Chal-lenges, Shared Solutions”, the 4th edition of the biennial World Cities Summit will be held in Singapore from 1 to 4 June 2014, in conjunction with SIWW and CleanEnviro Summit Singapore at the Sands Expo & Convention Cen-

tre in the Marina Bay Sands. WCS will be a place for lead-ers and experts to share integrated urban solutions and forge new partnerships with participants from at least 208 cities from 64 countries and regions.

Co-located with WCS and CleanEnviro Summit Sin-gapore, the Singapore International Water Week, the world’s only integrated event on water and urban sus-tainability, is a global platform for sharing and co-cre-ating innovative water solutions. The CleanEnviro Summit Singapore on the other hand, gathers the world’s top environment leaders from the public and private sectors, international organiza-tions and think-tanks, to discuss global environment issues, share knowledge, and shape thought leadership and policies on developing sustainable environmental management solutions. The summit features two trade exhibitions—the inaugural CleanMET Asia 2014 and WasteMET 2014.
