Salerno Container Terminal is an efficient state-of-the-art maritime gateway, linking the global container shipping networks to the import and export markets of South and Central Italy. In 1977 it operated the first container vessel in the port of Salerno and now ranks among the top Italian port facilities, serving over 40% of its population (consumers) and a vast number of the Italian manufacturing export industries located in the South of Italy, up to the Rome area.

While an increasing number of terminals in the world is controlled by individual shipping lines, Salerno Container Terminal is a private independent enterprise, and thus can guarantee to all shipping lines and customers top performances, neutrality and confidentiality to freely access regional markets.

The Salerno Container Terminal set up is based on two quays of 380 m. each and one quay of 140 m., six cranes operating up to 22 rows of containers across (15.000 TEU capacity vessel), 100.000 sqm. of bonded storage space geared with a large variety of advanced handling equipment, offering non-stop round the clock operations, 365 days per year.

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENTSINFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENTS

2020 begun under a very good star for Salerno Container Terminal.

The dredging operation of the port infrastructure is now proceeding at “full speed ahead”. The hopper dredger BREYDEL arrived on the 13th January and immediately started the sucking operation, which are being performed no-stop, 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

The first phase dredging will be completed by next April, when a water depth of minus 13.5 m. will be achieved. Just after, the Harbor Master will release the up dated official port chart, showing the new allowed draft (12.5 m.).

The dredging operations will carry on, after a short summer time suspension, with the second phase (the tender assigned is covering both phases under one single

contract) which will bring the port water depth to minus 14.5/15 m. by early 2021.

Another strategic upgrading is starting in February 2020. The port entrance is being enlarged by 100 m., to allow the access to vessel of 350 m. LOA, in line with the present Salerno Container Terminal quay length of 380 m. at the East side, 380 m. at the West side, 140 m. at the top side (for feeders).

Salerno Container Terminal invested in the construction and management of the new port Border Control Post adjacent to the container terminal yard.

The construction of the new Border Control Post in the port of Salerno is progressing and will be completed by mid 2020. The Border Inspection and Control Post are the only points of entry into the EU for animal and plant products originating from third countries. The infrastructure, being implemented by SCT in accordance with the UE regulations, will have adequate facilities, offices, cold rooms, laboratories,

inspection and storage rooms, to enable the public agencies and bodies to provide efficient inspection of products of animal origin, both for human and non-human consumption, live animals and plants subject to phytosanitary inspection. The new building will include – in a single site – inspections posts for:• Veterinary inspection• Phytosanitary inspection• Sanitary and hygienic Surveillance

and Regulation Service for Foreign Trade (USMAF)

• Customs control

The design of the new infrastructure has been developed by SCT combining an excellent set up for the public services, secured by the state agencies and offices in charge, with fast and smooth handling of the cargoes to be inspected, in order to improve the overall efficiency and competitive attraction of the port of Salerno.

Salerno Container Terminal and Terminal Intermodale Nola “Alliance”

The vast majority of the export flow of business from China, the Far East and remaining countries in the world discharged in the South Italian ports is delivered to the Nola District (over 500 companies specialized in importation and distribution) and to the Rome area, the Italian Capital.

Salerno Contaner Terminal and Terminal Intermodale Nola have jointly set up the most efficient, fast and cost effective logistic and transport arrangements for the handling, clearance, storage and delivery of the goods destined for these two strategic locations.

The two partners have set up an alliance for the coordinated use of the Salerno port infrastructure and the Nola in-land hub, offering an innovative integrated facility, able to respond with greater competitiveness and efficiency to any logistic need, from the place of departure to that of delivery of the goods.

The goods are transferred under bond, by dedicated fast shuttles running round the clock between the port of Salerno and the Interporto. The customs clearance operations can be performed at the Territorial headquarters of Nola Customs office and the “last-mile” just in time deliveries quickly provided to the companies operating in the Nola business district, the leading B2B trade distribution center in Europe.

SATELLITE TERMINAL: SCT 2SATELLITE TERMINAL: SCT 2

SCT 2 is an inland terminal strategically developed in the heart of the “export oriented” foodstuff industry. It is a facility fully organized and equipped to receive, store, repair and deliver containers, as well as cargo, located at the Castel S.Giorgio (Salerno) gate exit of the fast three lanes motorway linking Salerno to Rome, adjacent to the food canning district. The depot can be fed by the restitution

of empty containers originating from the delivery of full import loads to destinations placed between Salerno and Rome. The empty containers stacked at SCT 2, inspected, maintained and ready to go, can be positioned to the export canning industries in a range of just few kilometers and then delivered full to the port of Salerno, for shipment on board vessels. The integrated cycle, delivery full-import-in / empty-redelivery at SCT2 / empty

positioning for export / full export return to SCT 1 in the port of Salerno, enables saving through the trucking optimization. SCT2 is under the ownership, management and control of SCT1: one team, one organization!

Focus on

In order to enhance efficiency, market approach and cost effectiveness in a very competitive environment, the shipping industry is keen to appoint partners-suppliers capable to offer wider integrated services. SCT has identified an area of service integration which received a good feed back by the Shipping Lines: to directly operate and provide third party “neutral” trucking services, in addition to the terminal services, specially dedicated to the Lines for the land transportation of containers in “carrier’s haulage”.

The attraction of this arrangement is that the transport services are offered by the terminal, being a solid “recognized” third party services provider.

SCT mission is to operate an own fleet of trucks and an own team of truck drivers, through a fully licensed trucking division.

The choice of the investment in trucks has been made by focusing on the highest efficiency, top quality, latest technology, also in terms of safety and most advanced eco-friendly equipments.
