Simplicity - A one issue world view, Holy Obedience

An inward reality that can be seen in an outward lifestyle

God never guides us into an intolerable scramble of panting feverishness

To be simple is to fix one’s eye on the simple truth of God regardless of the circumstance.

Radical Dependence = Radical Obedience The sin that produced every evil act in the world:

We will provide for ourselves

The Pearl of Great Price “God made man simple; man’s complex problems are of his own devising”

Eccles. 7:39 Simplicity begins in inward focus and unity (perfection is found in subtraction)

Because we lack a Divine Center our need for security has led us to an insane need of approval/attachment to things…Idolatry

The Bible challenges nearly every economic value or success model of contemporary society

Scripture: Ps. 62:10, Prov. 11:28, Lk. 16:13, Lk. 6:20, Mt. 6:21, Lk.12:15, Lk. 6:30, I Tim.6:9, Heb. 13:5, Jas 4:1

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” Matthew 6:33

Inward reality of simplicity– 1. Receive what we have as a gift from God It is His business to care for

what we own. Our goods are available to others– 2. We have no business where God engineers our circumstances

“What ever weakens your reason, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, or takes off the relish of spiritual things, what ever increases the authority of your body over mind, that thing for you is sin.” S. Wesley

Buy things for their usefulness. If I survived without it today…

Reject addictions Give things away Resist the propaganda of

media Enjoy things with out

owning them

The person in front of me is more important than anything I have to do.

No manipulation just plain, honest speech

Reject anything that breed oppression or dominate another

Shun whatever would distract you from the Kingdom
