QuadrupoleVirtual hyperbolic field rods, driven by a solid state, supply ensures low abundance sensitivity and class leading mass stability. Mass calibration assessed and automatically updated when necessary in the ‘Get Ready’ process within Thermo Scientific™ Qtegra™ Intelligent Scientific Data Solution™ (ISDS) software.
QCell Collision/Reaction Cell (CRC)Proprietary flatapole system with high transmission, powerful interference reduction and low mass cut off. Even in He KED mode, the high transmission is maintained enabling complete single measurement mode analysis of all analytes including Li and Be. Non-consumable, small CRC volume for fast gas exchange. Flexibility to work with reactive gases, such as mixtures of O
2, NH
3 and H
2.
Ion OpticsThe Right Angluar Positive Ion Deflection (‘RAPID’) lens is a unique 90° cylindrical ion lens providing high ion transmission across the entire mass range.
The open lens stack eliminates lens cleaning maintenance and a completely off-axis design together with QCell technology delivers a class leading background noise.
DetectorLong lifetime detector with linear dynamic detection range: >9 orders of magnitude for accurate measurement of trace to major matrix ions in a single scan. Minimum dwell time of 100 µs. One Click Setup for optimization of operating voltages and cross-calibration.
Vacuum SystemIn the event of a power failure, high vacuum is maintained and the turbo pump automatically restarts as soon as power is restored. A stable vacuum obtained in less than 15 minutes pumping time enables fast return to service after maintenance.
ElectronicsAll new electronics design for maximum robustness and reliability.
InstallationSimplified installation and reduced lab requirements with plug and play power connections and low heat extraction requirement.

PlasmaRF GeneratorAll new solid state RF generator for ultimate plasma robustness. Argon ICP ion source with dynamic frequency impedance matching the plasma at ~27 MHz., enabling high plasma stability even for highly volatile organic solvents. Low ion energy spread for optimum ion focusing and transmission is obtained without the need of a grounded shield between torch and load coil.
Sample IntroductionBench height, open access sample introduction area for simplified user experience and easiest peripheral connectivity.
SpraychamberPeltier cooled, high purity quartz, baffled cyclonic spray chamber, efficiently filters out larger aerosol droplets for improved plasma stability and reduced chamber surface areas improves sample washout. PFA spray chamber options available. Compatible with all 6 mm OD nebulizers.
NebulizerHigh performance, concentric nebulizer with ~0.4 mL/min sample consumption. Optional nebulizers in a range of flow rates, for sensitivity or tolerance to total dissolved solids are available.
InterfaceUnique front opening interface provides easy simultaneous access to cones and extraction lens, to facilitate routine maintenance and minimize downtime. Cones are rapidly removed by a single (magnetic) tool while the extraction lens is bayonet mounted for easy handling.
Cones Field proven sample and skimmer cones designed to reduce matrix deposition. Skimmer cone with optimized operating temperature and proprietary skimmer insert design minimizes memory effects.
A choice of three inserts allow the user to balance the needs of matrix resistance against absolute sensitivity:
• NEW Robust Interface specifically designed for minimal drift during long-term analysis of high matrix samples.
• High Matrix Interface for typical sample types provides the optimal balance between sensitivity and tolerance.
• High Sensitivity Interface provides best detection and signal to noise ratio for ultra-trace analysis and advanced applications.
Extraction LensSingle extraction lens operated at low voltages for optimum ion extraction and focusing before entry into the RAPID lens.
Interface PumpExternal, high performance pump provides backing to the turbo pumps and evacuation of the expansion region, for improved sampling from the plasma and optimal transfer of ions into the high vacuum region. Supplied with synthetic, chemically stable, temperature resistant rotary pump oil as standard for reduced maintenance.
Slide ValvePC controlled. Defaults to closed position when plasma is off or in the event of a power failure, maintaining vacuum in the analyzer housing.
Load CoilSilver coated copper load coil (water cooled) for improved lifetime and reliable plasma ignition. Accessible at bench height for ease of maintenance.
Plasma TVRemote monitoring of plasma status via integrated HD camera.
TorchPush-in, demountable, single piece, quartz torch with all connectivity (argon gas supplies and plasma ignition) designed into the holder, reducing torch complexity and improving usability. “Tulip” design for improved plasma stability. Proprietary screw-in, self-aligning injector for ease of use and reliability.
Peristaltic PumpCompact, low pulsation, 12 roller, 4 channel mini-pump with inert rollers for improved reliability.
Additional Gas KitTwo additional mass flow controllers (0-250 or 0-1000 mL/min, with full software control) available as options. Close coupling to the sample introduction system and push fit connectivity deliver a neat solution for advanced applications.

For the reliability, robustness and analytical performance demanded by high-throughput, routine laboratories. Ideal for environmental, food safety, pharmaceutical and materials analysis in addition to geochemical exploration and clinical research.
Through the use of intelligent sample introduction, analysis times are significantly reduced, driving up sample throughput and providing a rapid return on investment. High elemental sensitivity and low backgrounds make the iCAP RQ ICP-MS perfectly suited for coupled applications, such as speciation, laser ablation and nanoparticle characterization.
User-friendly Thermo Scientific™ Qtegra™ Intelligent Scientific Data Solution™ (ISDS) software manages entire workflows from ‘Get Ready’ to data reporting. This intuitive platform software is common to other Thermo Scientific trace elemental techniques, so operators can seamlessly switch between instruments.
With proprietary QCell technology, comprehensive single mode interference removal using pure He as a collision gas with Kinetic Energy Discrimination (KED) is possible.
Save time and simplify method development by using He KED mode for the entire mass range. High transmission ensures the sensitivity and LODs needed, even on low mass analytes such as Li and Be. Rely upon predictable, reproducible interference reduction in all sample types from unique low mass cut off (LMCO). When matrix complexity demands even greater interference removal, easily change to reactive mode for efficient, accurate analysis.
Why choose the iCAP RQ ICP-MS for your lab?
Apply low mass cut off
QCell low mass cut off removes all precursors to interferences and reduces BECs even further than He KED alone.

Complex sample matrix
Quadrupole set to filter out exact mass of target analyte.
QCell flatapole dynamically applies LMCO relative to target analyte.
He KED filters out unwanted polyatomic interferences, based
on difference in cross-sectional size of
the analyte and polyatomic.
Low mass cut off filters out unwanted
precursor ions; which are then unable to recombine later in the QCell reducing backgrounds further than
He KED alone.
Quadrupole isolates ions required for measurements.
Comprehensive interference removal
is achieved.
