To talk about an activity that finished in the past.
To express some ideas that happened in the past.
To list some hobbies you did during your free time,
besides, you are not doing them anymore. Examples:We played tennis last Sunday.I worked in London from 1984 to 1989.

These verbs, you just have to add ED at the end of the verb, when you are using the past.

In the second group: The verbs are the same in the simple form and the simple past.

We use the auxiliary DID when we are talking about the past tense, for the negative or interrogative statements. We use the same auxiliary DID for all the pronouns even if they are singular or plural. Example:

To form the negative sentences, we use the same structure of the affirmative ones. We just use the short or long form of the auxiliary did in a negative way.
Example:He walked.He didn’t walk.
