Figure 2: Example of an electrical installation for the IBS S5 100 SL-T slave interface together with the S5 95U PLC and two analog modules.

Like a bus module, the IBS S5 100 SL-T slave interface is snapped onto a standard mountingrail. The module has two flat ribbon cables. The rear (upper) cable connects the slave interfaceto the left (right) bus module or the PLC. The pin strip connects the right bus module, if required.

51830008

Avoid mechanical stress and canting of the slave interface during installation!

Carry out all work on electrical connections to the PLC (S5 90U, S5 95U orS5 100U) and to the INTERBUS system only when the operating voltage has beenswitched off.

Mounting

Removal

Hook the upper guide rail of the slave interface onto the upper part of thestandard rail (the flat-ribbon cable is facing upwards). Insert the tip of thescrewdriver into the cut-out of the red latch, pull the red latch with thescrewdriver to the bottom and swivel the slave interface to the lower partof the standard rail. Then pull away the screwdriver and let the latchengage.5078B003

Plug the connector of the rear flat-ribbon cable without lengthening orsqueezing the cable- onto the bus module of the last module (if provided)

or

- directly into the bus connector on the side of the PLC.

Plug the connector of the adjacent, right bus module into the pin strip ofthe flat-ribbon cable on top of the slave interface.

51830002

Connect the incoming remote bus cable (SUB D9 female connector) to theremote bus pin strip of the slave interface (designation "REMOTE IN"). Ifan outgoing remote bus is used, connect its cable (SUB D pin strip) to theremote bus female connector of the slave interface (designation"REMOTE OUT").

Voltage Supply

The module is supplied independently of the PLC system with 24 V DC.

Strip off the conductor ends approx. 7 mm (see Figure 3.1) and fit ferrules at the end. Wire theconnector as is shown in Figure 3.2. Insert it into the module as can be seen in Figure 3.3.

Diagnostic Indicators

Diagnostics are indicated with 4 LEDs on the front panel (see also Figure 3).

The slave interface is supplied continuously with power or can be activated withthe voltage supply of the PLC.If the power is supplied via the IM 90 of the 90U PLC (max. 300 mA), only oneslave interface can be used (with an external supply up to 2 slave interfaces).

Setting the DIP Switches

For INTERBUS the slave interface is a remote bus device for which the word length can be set.The used I/O words (data width) as well as voltage monitoring, data bytes operation and statusdisplay can be set via DIP switches.

For setting the DIP switches remove the housing cover (Figure 4):Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the slot (1). Lift up the cover of the housing, pressing thehandle of the screwdriver down (2). Remove the cover from the flat-ribbon cable.

Switches 1, 2, 3 Setting the data width

The slave interface is linked to the higher-level INTERBUS system as a device with apermanent identification code and a word length (length code) which can be set.

Address Assignment/Data Width in the Slave PLC

The addresses of the IBS S5 100 SL-T slave remote interface are assigned to the analogaddress area of the PLC depending on the slot. The slave interface uses 2 slots and 8 wordsrespectively.

* As of output level 8MA03 of the SIMATIC S5 PLC, otherwise only slots 0 and 2
