In the school setting, what this means is that by now, schedules, routines and procedures are well under way at school and in the classrooms. As I walk into classrooms each day, it is evident that critical thinking, learning, and ac- tive student engagement is abound. Teachers can be seen orchestrating countless ideas as designed in their lesson plans and adjusting what they teach to the needs of their students. The learning process is exciting to watch and it is also nice to see that high standards are a part of our school’s culture. With regard to school-wide processes, we are cer- tainly enjoying reveling in the individual successes of students as they work on specific pillars of charac- ter. For the next few weeks, students will be working hard on “Caring”. As a staff, we are focusing on encouraging students to take care of themselves, their classmates and their school. As a part of our Character Counts program, we work hard as a school to teach the importance of being a person of character as well as a person that works hard – especially in the area of academics. In the next couple of weeks we will be honoring our students at our first trimester Awards Assembly of the year. At this assembly, each teacher will choose 6 students (2 students for academic achievement, 2 students for perseverance and 2 students for being a person of character) to honor and recognize for their contributions to our school. Don’t worry if your child is not chosen this time. There are two other opportunities for students to earn recognition. For the past three years, we are focused on teach- ing the importance of good character and being good citizens. Good citizens are trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair and caring – not only at school but at home. Please help us promote good citizenship by finding opportunities to talk about what this means to you and your family. Partnering with you always makes the lessons richer. Lastly, over the holidays, consider challenging your kids to read a good book or two – reading is a gift to the soul! Enjoy your time over break and may you form beautiful memories as you enjoy your special time with your children! Dear Silverdale Families, December has arrived with the blink of

an eye. In the school setting, what this

means is that by now, schedules, routines

and procedures are well under way at school and in

the classrooms. As I walk into classrooms each day,

it is evident that critical thinking, learning, and ac-

tive student engagement is abound. Teachers can be

seen orchestrating countless ideas as designed in

their lesson plans and adjusting what they teach to

the needs of their students. The learning process is

exciting to watch and it is also nice to see that high

standards are a part of our school’s culture.

With regard to school-wide processes, we are cer-

tainly enjoying reveling in the individual successes of

students as they work on specific pillars of charac-

ter. For the next few weeks, students will be working

hard on “Caring”. As a staff, we are focusing on

encouraging students to take care of themselves,

their classmates and their school.

As a part of our Character Counts program, we

work hard as a school to teach the importance of

being a person of character as well as a person that

works hard – especially in the area of academics.

In the next couple of weeks we will be honoring our

students at our first trimester Awards Assembly

of the year. At this assembly, each teacher will

choose 6 students (2 students for academic

achievement, 2 students for perseverance and 2

students for being a person of character) to honor

and recognize for their contributions to our school.

Don’t worry if your child is not chosen this time.

There are two other opportunities for students to

earn recognition.

For the past three years, we are focused on teach-

ing the importance of good character and being good

citizens. Good citizens are trustworthy, respectful,

responsible, fair and caring – not only at school but

at home. Please help us promote good citizenship by

finding opportunities to talk about what this means

to you and your family. Partnering with you always

makes the lessons richer.

Lastly, over the holidays, consider challenging your

kids to read a good book or two – reading is a gift to

the soul! Enjoy your time over break and may you

form beautiful memories as you enjoy your special

time with your children!

Sincerely,

Snow and Emergency Routes We may need to change bus schedules for bad weather and other

emergencies. In bad weather, we will announce changes by 6am.

Communication We will contact parents in one of the following ways:

*Automated phone calls

(Please keep your phone number updated with your school)

*School and district websites

*e-News

*District Facebook and Twitter accounts

*Television and radio. Listen for Central Kitsap School District #401,

and listen for which areas are affected.

Emergency Bus Stops In bad weather, we limit bus service routes when road conditions are unsafe.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. If your child rides a special needs bus, you

must make other arrangements with the Transportation Department, please call 360-662-8800.

Please note:

*Students who are picked up at a limited bus service stop in the morning are

dropped off at the same stop in the afternoon.

*Students need to arrive at the limited bus service stop by the normal time for their regular

stop. However, when schools open two hours late, bus stops are also two hours late.

* Please talk with your child about how to stay safe while walking and waiting.

We will announce limited bus service by area. If you live on one of the roads that are closed,

use the designated emergency stop. If your road is NOT listed, your child can catch the

bus at their regular stop.
