    MusicAll students in Kindergarten through grade 8 receive musicinstruction in their regular timetable by a qualified music specialiston staff.Students in Kindergarten through grade 4 receiveinstruction in singing, rhythm Orff instruments, and basic musictheory and appreciation. Students in grades 5 through 8 receiveinstruction on band instruments and music history.

    ComputersOur state of the art computer lab features both Apple and PCplatforms. With the help of a qualified computer teacher, ourstudents are afforded the opportunity to explore the world ofcomputers as they develop the skills to compete in the world oftoday. Our goal is to equip all classes with an Interactive SMARTBoard as we prepare our students for the 21st Century.

    DramaStudents in Kindergarten through to Gr.8 receive Drama instructionin their regular timetable. Students in Kintergarten through grade 4receive programming in thier homeroom classes. Students ingrades 5 through 8 receive instruction by a qualified Dramaspecialist on staff. Our students showcase their talents in eveningwinter and spring showacses and heritage days.

    French ProgramOur French teachers offer an oral and written French program thatpromotes and enhances second language acquisition. In addition,focus is given to the awareness of both International and CanadianFrench Heritage. The school takes part in the annual BonhomeWinter Carnival every February.

    On behalf of the student body, we would like to share that:Silver Springs has many programs that encourage studentsto show their school spirit! We interact with teachers throughmany extra-curricular activities and feel very safe because ofthe great community established here. Students are friendlyto each other and encourage everyone to participate, nomatter what their culture, religion, race, gender or ability. Wehave learned the importance of joining together to helpsupport developing countries, each other, and thecommunity. We incorporate eco-friendly habits into dailyschool life. There are friendly competitions betweenteachers and students in various sports. At our school,students take part in many nutritious lunches, and also lookforward to the healthy snack program. Students can freelydisplay their talents, as shown in the art on the walls ofSilver Springs, and in talent shows (winter and spring). Welove our school so much that we can often be seen early inthe morning and late in the evening taking part in manyclubs and teams. Overall, students think of Silver SpringsPS as their second home, and the teachers as closefriends! Student Council

    At Silver Springs we have forged many partnerships with ourparents and community, including: Parent Council and Parentvolunteers (assist in classrooms, excursions, committees),St.Silvester Catholic School (evacuation site), L'AmoreauxCommunity Centre (grade 8 graduation and evacuation site),Settlement Workers (Chinese and Tamil), ACSA & Action forNeighbourhood Change (Glendower site), Faculty Students (teachercandidates - OISE, nurses - York Universtity), and Co-op Students(L'Amoreaux C.I.). Silver Springs maintains ongoing communicationwith our parent community in many ways, including: School Websiteand monthly newsletters, Classroom newsletters and teacherwebsites, Evening Events (Curriculum Night, Open House, Winter &Spring Showcases, various Parent information Nights, etc.).
