Aart Huijg, the 31-year-old from Amsterdam, TheNetherlands, who stopped in Silver City on Nov. 9 on hisbicycle trek from the North Pole to the South Pole, hasreached his Christmas destination.

Huijg, who left Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, on July 14 and plansto reach Ushuaia, thecapital of Tierra del Fuegoprovince, Argentina, inMay 2013, was in the stateof Cuernavaca, Mexico,on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

Todays ride startedhorrible, Huijg stated, referring to Dec. 21. Therst 50 kilometers (31miles) I dived into thetrafc chaos of MexicoCity. Then I went up to3,000 meters (9,842 feet)to fall down into the richnature of Cuernavaca.

The terrible drought ofNew Mexico and thenorthern states of Mexico(Chihuahua, Durango andZacatecas) seem to behistory (for me). Now, hesees colored owers andjungle plants.

Huijg plans to stay inCuernavaca until mid-January, when he willresume his journey throughGuatemala, Hondurasand Nicaragua toward hisultimate destination.

    Entering Mexico inmid-November, Huijg

said he was frightened of meeting the narcos, specicallyLos Zetas. Although the people were fearful of the drugtrafckers, as well, they were over the top nice, feeding meand hosting me, Huijg relates.

Huijg said, One man took a picture of me and posted iton Facebook. Since then, my followers on Facebook havedoubled. I would appreciate it a lot if you could mention myFacebook page: www.facebook.com/Today.You.Can. Hiswebsite may be accessed at www.today-you-can.com.
