SILK SCREEN

Find and/or create a design. Needs to be approximately notebook paper

size.

• SHADE areas to print (will be what you cut out of the stencil)

Tape your design onto cardboard.

Get approval, practice film, and a new blade from instructor.

With approval get a large piece of film. (Fee paid?)

Cut out shaded areas (lines too). Do Not cut or dent plastic backing!

Find a frame to fit your design.

Get silk from instructor. Stretch silk TIGHTLY over frame.

Have instructor or TA adhere film stencil to silk. Wait 20 minutes.

Pull plastic backing off SLOWLY.

Mask around stencil using masking tape. Roll tape up the sides of the

frame.

Directions for printing

• Lay blank paper on top of a pad of newspaper • Lay down frame with screen and your cutout

stencil • At one end of the stencil lay down a couple

tablespoons of ink • Pull squeegee firmly at a 45 degree angle

across the paper 2 or 3 times (t-shirts=6 times) • Lift off frame slowly

Print

Fill out an assessment and turn in: 2 paper prints, 1 black on white and

1 color. Sign like a printmaker!
