It’s a bittersweet feeling as I write my last president’s message as your club president for 2012-2013. I’ll miss leading this group of incredible people. I am also very excited for our new leadership team under the tutelage of past president Kim Jones. This Soroptimist year has been a full one. Beginning with a SIA federation convention on home soil, we then hosted a successful district meeting, exceeded fundraising goals, participated in worthy programs of service, and celebrated our 75 th Anniversary, not to mention the many meetings and program speakers we’ve enjoyed together. We also grew our membership substantially, finishing this year 42 members strong! All of that considered I am most proud of the affect we’ve had on women and girls in our community. This year we gave away thousands of dollars in ways that directly benefit women and girls. Thru our mission-focused awards, direct donations and service projects, the work we’ve done this year has made a major difference in the lives of many. CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU to you all for a great year! Looking ahead our future looks very bright as we continue to work together to better the lives of women and girls. It’s a bittersweet feeling as I write my last president’s message as your club president for 2012-2013. I’ll miss leading this group of incredible people. I am also very excited for our new leadership team under the tutelage of past president Kim Jones.

This Soroptimist year has been a full one. Beginning with a SIA federation convention on home soil, we then hosted a successful district meeting, exceeded fundraising goals, participated in worthy programs of service, and celebrated our 75th Anniversary, not to mention the many meetings and program speakers we’ve enjoyed together.

Sincerely,

Shawnee Hammer SI Honolulu President

Simple Salads for the Season

A few salads from Mark Bittman’s 101 Simple Salads for the Season article for The New York Times:

#2: Mix wedges of tomatoes and peaches, add slivers of red onion , a few red-pepper flakes and cilantro. Dress with olive oil and lime or lemon juice. Astonishing.

#7: Grate carrots, toast some sunflower seeds, and toss with blueberries, olive oil,

lemon juice and plenty of black pepper. Sweet, sour, crunchy, soft. #49: Toss greens with walnuts, blue cheese and raspberries; drizzle with a simple

vinaigrette.
