Signum Classics triumphs at BBC Music Magazine awards as it celebrates its 15 th anniversary Best Choral award for Tenebrae’s recording of Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Requiem Mass, 1605 Best Engineering award for Berlioz’ Grande Messe des Morts with Paul McCreesh, Ensemble Wroclaw and the Gabrieli Consort and Players Signum Classics marks its 15 th anniversary by picking up two prizes at the 2012 BBC Music Magazine Awards and making Awards history with two nominations in the same category. Tenebrae's Victoria Requiem Mass and 'Songs of Farewell' albums both received nods in the publically-voted Choral category. The news comes as Signum prepares to celebrate 15 years in the industry and a milestone of 300 releases, which will be marked in the autumn with the release of six compilation albums. In its first 15 years, Signum has sold over half a million albums and recorded over 21,000 minutes of audio. Initially an early music label, the first non-early music release was Tenebrae’s Mother and Child in 2003, which in light of this award shows the fruitful partnership between label and chamber choir. This was the second consecutive year that Tenebrae has been nominated in the Choral category (2011: Poulenc Figure Humaine) and the third year in a row that Signum has received a nomination at the awards (2010: 'Liszt Abroad'). Tenebrae, founded and directed by Nigel Short, also becomes the first ever choir to be invited to perform at the BBC Music Magazine Awards ceremony today at Kings Place. Signum Records was launched in 1997 and now boasts an impressive catalogue of releases, many of which are international award winners and five star review recipients. These two accolades will add to an impressive collection including a Grammy and a MIDEM Classical award. The small Signum team strive to produce great music recorded with integrity and creativity at the highest level. Steve Long, Director of Signum Classics, said: "I am thrilled that Signum has received these awards in such a momentous year. The label has developed significantly since its launch and we will continue to record an exciting variety of artists and repertoire in the future." Nick Parker, Recording Producer of both winning discs, said: "It's been a privilege to produce both these titles for Signum Classics. The Berlioz' Grande Messe des Morts was a monumental project with a vast array of forces and I'm delighted that such an ambitious project has gained this wider recognition."
