Objectives
At the end of this module the participants will be able to:
• Identify the entities required for implementing message routing on MTP layer level
• Explain the concept of CCS7 signalling in RNC.
• List the steps needed to set up the SS7 layers of RNC interfaces
• Configure CCS7 signalling in RNC

SS7 protocols in Iu-CS, Iu-PS and Iur
• To allow for the communication using the ATM-based control plane, the following SS7 signalling parts must be defined in both elements:
– MTP3
– SCCP
– Application protocols (RANAP/RNSAP)
• To allow for the communication using the IP-based control plane, the following SS7 signalling parts must be defined in both elements:

Configuring IP and SCTP for IP Control Plane
• Only if implementing the new feature, IP Control Plane
• To define the IP configuration, the following must be defined:
– IP address of ICSU
– Static route to next hop
– Internal routing over ATM
• To define the SCTP, the following must be defined:
– Association set
– Association
– Source IP addresses

• One signalling link consists of one association set
• One association set consists of max 16 associations for ordered messages
• Signalling link is active when at least 1 association is active
• Signalling linkset is active when at least 1 signalling link is active
• SLS field is used to select the appropriate association
• One signalling unit can be connected to multiple association sets but inside one association set the unit is only connected to one association.
SIGTRAN routing: SCTP Associations

Integration steps – SIGTRAN
• Create an association set
• Add associations to the association set
• Check the associations
• Give IP addresses to own signalling units
• Create source IP addresses for SCTP
• Create IP type SS7 signalling link and link set
• Create the SS7 signalling route set
