Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity 17th Biennial Pacific Regional Convention
Hyatt Regency | Sacramento California
October 3, 2013 to October 6, 2013 Hosted by Gamma Epsilon Boulé
Dear Friends:
Twenty-four years after serving as the host in 1989, Gamma Epsilon Boulé is
once again looking forward to serving as the host of the 2013 Biennial Conference,
Pacific Regional Conference. This year’s Conference will convene from October 3-6,
2013 in Sacramento, California. We are expecting over 300 participants in what
promises to be an exciting and informative event. With the State Capitol as a backdrop,
The Hyatt Hotel will serve as the site for a four-day conference that will feature a wide
range of activities as well as business meetings focused on current public policy. Repre-
sentatives of the business community as well as local and state officials, including the
Mayor of Sacramento, Kevin Johnson, have already committed to participate.
Sigma Pi Phi is recognized as the first African-American Greek-lettered organiza-
tion in the country. The fraternity was founded on May 15, 1904 in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania by a group of African-American professionals. As of June 2012,
Sigma Pi Phi’s membership is comprised of over 5,000 members in five regions and 129
chapters, known as Member Boulés, throughout the United States, United Kingdom and
the Bahamas. The Sacramento “chapter”, known as Gamma Epsilon Boulé, is part of the
Pacific Region and was founded on July 17, 1984. The region’s membership spans six
states and includes over 800 members representing a variety of professions including
medicine, dentistry, law, politics, architecture, engineering, real estate development,
education, business and the entertainment industry.
Like other Boulés of Sigma Pi Phi, Gamma Epsilon is active in the local
community supporting a wide of array of causes and social action programs. Member
Boulés throughout the region are developing innovative strategies for increasing support
for social, educational and economic assistance for the African-American community.
Gamma Epsilon Boule's is proud to partner with Scholar Athletes Globally
Emerging, Inc. (SAGE) to sponsor our Pacific Regional Gala and Public Policy Forum.
Team SAGE has been measured to be a worthy organization doing great things to sup-
port the development of future leaders and inspiring academic excellence.
Our involvement in public policy and social action is replicated on an ongoing
basis as part of a collaborative effort with the other sixteen Member Boulés in the Pacific
Region, which includes the Member Boulés in California, Alaska, Arizona, Nevada,
Oregon and the State of Washington.
On behalf of the members of the Pacific Region of Sigma Pi Phi, we invite you
and your organization to join us in supporting the 2013 Biennial Conference, an event to
remember.
Fraternally,
Kevin J. Mitchell

In 2009, Gamma Epsilon Boulé Archon Wornel Simpson looked around his community and decided that
there was a need to create a greater capacity for leadership development and inspire the pursuit of academic excel-
lence in its schools. He created Scholar Athletes Globally Emerging, Inc (SAGE) as a vehicle to accomplish those
goals. He was soon joined by local community, business and political leaders who stepped forward to provide their
support.
SAGE grew from a local program that uses sports as a catalyst to support the pursuit of academic excel-
lence to a regional effort that expanded to the rest of Sacramento County and throughout Northern California. Stu-
dents participating in SAGE include underprivileged kids who enter the program with low grade point averages
(GPAs) in the 1.0-1.5 range who are inspired by encouragement and working with their teachers and counselors to
GPAs of 3.0-3.5.
SAGE is partnering with Gamma Epsilon Boule to support the 2013 Pacific Regional's Gala event and
Public Policy Forum to provide yet another opportunity for its members to engage with successful and high achiev-
ing African Americans who are members of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity from throughout the Western United States
who can inspire SAGE members to achieve even higher levels of achievement.
We encourage any potential sponsors to support the partnership of SAGE and Gamma Epsilon Boule in
their effort to help develop future leaders of tomorrow and to join us for what will prove to be a memorable experi-
ence for all who attend. Please check team SAGE and their successful programs at www.teamsage.org.
