Edina, MN 55436 Epsilon Kappa of Sigma Nu Educational Foundation September 17, 2011 Dear Brothers, As the fall approaches so does another school year at the University of North Dakota.  Take a moment to look back and recall the time when you first strolled  up the sidewalk of 2808 University Avenue. No doubt, you were impressed with this most imposing structure. You were then invited inside for a tour...first the foyer, then the lounge and librar y. Most of us weren't exactly sure what a private club looked like, but this had to be it. Maybe it was the mahogany paneled walls, the two-sided center fireplace or the barrel ceiling in the librar y. Whatever it was, you wanted to become a part of this club. I consider myself very fortunate to have ha d the experience. It's been 24 years since I walked those hallways as a collegiate. The time escapes us all but we have a collective history that nothing can erase. I relish the friendships that were forged and the stories that f ollowed. Some sad, a few tragic but most bring a smile and a hearty laugh. We had no idea of what this fraternity experience would provide us then. Today however, it's crystal clear. Lifelong friendships and a common history that bonds us to a very special time in our lives. For 30 plus years, David Kane helped navigate Epsilon Kappa through good times and bad. He along with a handful of dedicated alumni, could be counted on in a crisis and to be tireless with their involvement with the active chapter. Unfortunately with the untimely loss of David, many critical items of business came to a halt. While a new House Corporation board has been assembled, we now find ourselves faced with potentially the most Critical and Serious Issue in the history of Epsilon Kappa. The city of Grand Forks has recently inspected the property and had suspended the Certificate of Occupancy. They also provided an itemized list detailing all items of correction and compliance needed for re-instatement. To date, we have spent over $60,000 in corrections and we have quite a long way to go. Epsilon Kappa is in very rough shape. While we have new windows and a 5 year old roof, the inside of the facility (now 87 years old) is showing its  age. The only room to have had a restoration is the library, while the rest of the building is in serious disrepair. The bathrooms need to be gutted, the kitchen is barely to code, and the original lathe and plaster walls are crumbling. Amazingly, all of this hasn't deterred the a ctive chapter. Our numbers are growing in spite of ourselves and they are looking to us for support. This letter is a call to action like none you have ever received. Some of you have been very generous in the past and we thank you and look toward your future support. The rest of you however, are now being called upon to help right this ship.
