Sierradora and Mick Leonard

Darren Weir Racing’s well respected Mick Leonard wears many hats around here – he’s the Financial

and Operations Manager for Forest Lodge, he runs his own agistment property Millwater Farm,

and he dabbles in breeding and training a few racehorses himself.

He’s accustomed to Darren winning plenty of races, but on the 10th of June he had reason to

celebrate his own success when one of his horses, three-year-old filly Sierradora, who he bred, owns

and trains, crossed the finish line first in the Benchmark 58 Handicap at Edenhope. Mick and

his wife Helen (photo above) were obviously both proud and excited to see their filly win. We all

recognise how busy Mick is, so congratulations on your win Mick, and we wish you plenty of further

success in the future.

Three for Three for Anjana

Exciting filly Anjana took her early career success to the next level this month when she took her impressive form to town and excelled in a 2YO Fillies Handicap over 1200m at Moonee Valley. Anjana kicked off her racing career back on May 7th with a Maiden victory at Wangaratta before heading to Ballarat where she had no issues ploughing through the heavy going to salute by a whopping six lengths over her nearest rival. This outstanding performance earnt her a crack at city level where she definitely cemented her place as a filly to watch come this Spring. She looked classes above her rivals as she peeled off the leaders backs and went on to comfortably salute by three lengths over Goldifox and Cosmic Ruby.

Anjana is one exciting prospect for Roll The Dice and everyone involved – a big congratulations on her early success!

Nature Strip Flies at Flemington

Star three year old Nature Strip produced a jaw dropping performance at his much anticipated stable debut down the straight at Flemington. Lining up in the 3YO Handicap over 1100m with Damian Lane in the saddle, he was quick to take up the lead and never look back as he effortlessly lumped 60.5kg to prove victorious by a huge four lengths. It was an uber-impressive turn of foot shown by the gelding who with a time of 1:02.26, finished just 0.11 seconds outside of the course record! Nature Strip’s impressive victory was one of two for the day after Silentz was quick to find his way back to the winners stall making it four wins from his past five starts in the $100,000 Provincial Plate. He saluted over his fast finishing stablemate and second placegetter, Another Coldie.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the success!

Ipswich Cup

It’s been a busy six weeks up North for the Queensland Winter Carnival with Darren Weir Racing being

represented with runners at every feature day. Former Perth galloper Tradesman made his trip up north well worthwhile when he took out the Listed

$180,000 Ipswich Cup in thrilling style. Tradesman kicked off his career with the stable in early March and it wasn’t long before he made it to the winners stall having saluted at his third up run over the Warrnambool carnival. On the back of a pleasing performance at Group 2 level on the Sunshine Coast the gelding headed

into the Ipswich Cup in good form and had to do it the hard way ‘facing the breeze’. He definitely didn’t enjoy the best of runs having got caught wide over the 2150m journey but toughed it out to run down the

leader and narrowly salute over First Crush and All in Vogue. Tradesman has proved himself to be very honest for his connections having taken out two races and a

number of minor placings in his first campaign with the stable.

A big congratulations to everyone involved!

A day with Roll The Dice and Darren Weir

On Sunday, June 3rd, Roll The Dice Syndications held an owner’s open day at Forest Lodge, Ballarat. This was a perfect opportunity for owners, family and friends, to visit their horse, watch the horse parades, and mingle with fellow owners, Darren, and stable staff. Roll The Dice directors Leigh Saville, Steve Travaglia, and Rob Norton also showcased their 2018 yearling purchases. It was a fabulous morning blessed with fine weather and good company, followed by an afternoon of racing action at Ballarat Turf Club.

Roll The Dice Syndications are exclusive to Darren Weir Racing. For more information or to become involved please visit www.rollthedice.com.au.

New Financial Year changes

With the end of the financial year our accountants have provided their schedule of recommended training fee increases. They have suggested a daily fee increase of $8.80 including GST. However, based on

Darren’s suggestions, we have decided to adopt a lower fee increase of $5 per day plus GST.

In addition we did not implement the second part of the recommended 2017 fee increase, which you may recall had been deferred and was scheduled to apply from February 2018.

We believe these two decisions minimise fee increases, recognise the contributions our owners make to our success and acknowledge the loyalty of our owners.

The increase will apply from 1st August.

Agistment rates will also increase but these rates will vary from farm to farm. Fodder is the major driver of these changes and drought conditions in the horse areas of NSW have had a major impact on both

availability and cost of all feeds.

Your feedback on our policies is always appreciated.

Paying Your Account

We remind all owners of the need to supply sufficient detail on EFT remittances to enable us to identify whom the payment is from. Your account number (shown on invoices) is the preferred reference

(highlighted in below picture)

We once again thank all our clients who settle their accounts promptly. In fairness to owners (and to ensure our cash flow is managed so as to enable us to pay our suppliers on time), we will

enforce our expectation for full and prompt settlement of our accounts by the end of the month of which it is issued. This includes referring overdue accounts for external collection. We

are sure you all appreciate the need for our collection policy to be conducted as professionally as possible. No horse will be allowed to race where there is an overdue account owing on that

horse. In these circumstances, our training terms and conditions authorise us to notify other owners of that horse the reason why the horse is not running.
