Pedigree – Sire Line

SIRE: - “Polish Precedent” – Trained in France by Andre Fabre, Polish Precedent raced in Sheikh Mohammed's colours and was French champion three-year-old miler in 1989.

During that season, he won no fewer than six Stakes races, including the G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois.

“Polish Precedent” sired some tough, world-class individuals, highlighted by his extraordinary Champion “Rakti,” who won six G1 contests including the Lockinge.

He also sired the mighty “Pilsudski,” who won the 1996 Breeders' Cup Turf, plus G1 contests in a further four countries. He was a champion in England, France, Ireland, and Germany.

“Polish Precedent” stood his entire career at Dalham Hall Stud and was buried there following his death in 2005.

“Polish Precedent” hails back to the immortal internationally influential Champion of Champion’s sires, “Northern Dancer – CAN.” He does so through another superb individual and Champion of Champion’s sires in “Danzig – USA.”

Danzig stood at stud at Claiborne Farm near Paris, Kentucky USA, where he became one of the world's most important sires. He led the U.S. sires list from 1991 to 1993 and topped the sire list in Spain and the United Arab Emirates.

Danzig sired 188 graded stakes race winners and 10 champions. His foals have earned more than $100 million in purse money and include Breeders' Cup winners Chief's Crown, Lure, Dance Smartly, and War Chant as well as the European champions Dayjur and Anabaa. Danzig also sired 1992 Preakness Stakes winner Pine Bluff, and is the sire of Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee Langfuhr who, in turn, sired the Canadian Triple Crown winner and Horse of the Year, Wando.

A leading sire of sires, Danzig's son Danehill is the first Thoroughbred in history to sire 300 stakes winners, while another son Green Desert has champions Oasis Dream, Ouija Board, Sea The Stars, and Kingman amongst his male-line descendants. Danzig was also the damsire of Fusaichi Pegasus and Dancethruthedawn. He was the grandsire of 2008 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown. His son Hard Spun finished second in the 2007 Kentucky Derby, behind Street Sense.

4. FOAL AT FOOT – “USTINOV – AUS“–“SIERRA LEONE – GB”

Impressive, correct, strong, leggy, good boned, powerful hind-quarted, deep girthed and balanced

bay colt by “Ustinov AUS” out of “Sierra Leone – GB”

“Sierra Leone” dropped a super, strong, well conformed, balanced, correct legged, good

boned bay colt on 28/09/16. He was born “a giant” just like his famous champion grand

dam on his sire’s side in “Lets Elope – NZ” and is a strapping lad. Given time, being

such a strapping lad and with his pedigree begin racing him as a 3 year old ideally/late 2

year old if needs must, do the right thing by him through his career and watch him excel,

through a long and successful career. On paper and type, he will have speed and be

able to hold his own over sprinting trips 1200m – 1400m and also be able to go over

distance, a Derby trip over 2400m or even Melbourne Cup trip over 3200m is possible

and proven with success in his pedigree.

This colt will make a perfect Ready to Run Sales prospect as the ideal time for a good

return on investment for him, if sold before his racing career begins. Once in training,

with a maiden victory under his belt as the minimum, he would also be a good sales

prospect into China, Macau, Singapore or Hong Kong.

5. COLTS PEDIGREE

This colt’s pedigree is interesting as on both sides of his family he has stakes proven

speed and distance success. His Sire, “Ustinov” won his maiden race at 2 years of age

over 1200m and ran 2nd in the AJC Champagne Stakes – Gr1 over 1600m to Viscount

and beat Miss Bussell, both were outstanding race horses at the top level.

(MISS BUSSELL (Sir Tristram*; Battle-Waggon*) 3 wins, $405,450, AJC Widden S-LR,

2d Magic Millions 2YO Classic-RL, 3d QTC Derby-G1).

Viscount was an outstanding racehorse. He is perhaps best remembered for a very

close 3rd to Northerly and Sunline in the running of the Cox Plate in 2001. He has

become a Champion broodmare sire and also bred some Champion progeny inc. the

Sprinting Sensation “Rocket Man – AUS” trained in Singapore by Patrick Shore. His

record speaks for itself.

2001 Australasian Champion Two Year Old

2002 Australasian Champion Three Year Old

Winner of Three Group One Races

Already the sire of three Group One Winners

Already the sire of a Champion Racehorse in Rocket Man

His progeny have earned in excess of $23 million

As a 3 year – 4 year old inclusive, Ustinov also competed against the best in his

generation including Lonhro and Sunline. He always held his own in top company. For

example he was victorious in the MVRC AAMI Vase – Gr2 over 2050m and 2nd in the

stallion making Caulfield Guiness – Gr1 to Lohnro and 3rd to Lohnro and Sunline in the

MRC Yalumba Stakes – Gr1.

On his dam side Group success is proven categorically from the sprinting trip of 1200m

through middle distance of 1600m to distance trips of 2400m. This is impressively

evident as follows:

African Peace, by Roberto. Winner at 2400m, Saint-Cloud Prix Collegia, 2d Evry Prix Belle de Nuit, L, 4th Maisons-Laffitte Prix Scaramouche, L. Half-sister to Gueridia (dam of GARNICA). Dam of 11 foals, all raced, 9 winners-

MKUZI (g by Halling (USA)). 8 wins 1¼m to 1¾m, €331,602, Curragh Cup, Gr 3-twice, Leopardstown Kilternan S., L, Limerick Martin Molony S., L, Leopardstown August H., Curragh Anglo Irish Bank S., 2d Curragh Mooresbridge S., Gr 3, Leopardstown Challenge S., L, Fairyhouse Ballycullen S., L, Limerick Martin Molony S., L, 3d Curragh S., Gr 3, Curragh Diamond S., L, Leopardstown Saval Beg S., L-twice,

4. SIRE LINE –

This striking colt is by “Ustinov – AUS” – “Seeking the Gold – USA” – “Lets Elope – NZ”

“Ustinov is incredibly well bred and exceptional type with a lovely temperament. This

suits ‘Sierra Leone” perfectly as she is so superbly bred, is always appreciated for her

quality and excellent and correct type, also has an easy going temperament and is a

pleasure to handle. This colt has inherited all these qualities from his “parents.”

“Seeking the Gold” was a successful racehorse. Seeking the Gold showed his best form

as a three-year-old in 1988. He won the Super Derby, the Peter Pan Stakes, the Dwyer

Stakes, and the Swale Stakes. He was narrowly beaten by Forty Niner in both the

Haskell Invitational Stakes and the Travers Stakes[2] and finished second to Alysheba in

the 1988 Breeder's Cup Classic.

where this son of the prolific “Mr Prospector” line made his mark. Seeking The Gold

6 CURRENTLY IN FOAL, LAST DATE OF SERVICE, GOOD SIZED PROGENY, VOBIS AND SUPER VOBIS QUALIFIED

“Sierra Leone” was positively pregnancy tested from her first service, in foal, at 14 days, 45 days and 90 days to “Canford Cliffs.” Her last date of service was the 22/10/2015.

The resulting progeny will be eligible for the Victorian Bonus schemes of VOBIS and Super VOBIS. Both have excellent incentives for both the breeder, as you will be and the race horse owner/s.

7 WHY “CANFORD CLIFFS - IRE?”

“Canford Cliffs – (IRE),” was a super racehorse and striking, strong, correct individual with a good temperament. He raced against the best of company in IRE, UK and EUROPE from sprinting trips of 6 furlongs/1200m as a 2 year old to the celebrated Middle Distance of a mile/1600m when he successfully trained on as a 3 year old and 4 year old colt. He rose to the top of the sterling competition he met throughout his stallion defining race career.

This began with, x2 all important victories over 6 furlongs/1200m including by 6 lengths in the Coventry Stakes – Gr2 beating “Xtension” and a close 3rd placing over the same distance in the Prix Morny – Gr1 and included sensational victories as a 3 and 4 year old in such time honoured races as the Sussex Stakes – Gr1 over a mile/1600m at Goodwood beating “Rip Van Winkle,” St James’ Palace Stakes – Gr1 (Royal Ascot) over a mile/1600m beating “Dick Turpin” and victory over the European Champion Darling “Goldikova” again at Royal Ascot as a 4 year old over the mile/1600m in the Queen Anne Stakes – Gr1.

“Canford Cliff’s” brilliance earned him the awards of:-

Champion Older Miler in Europe 2011

Top Rated 3 year old Miler in England and Ireland 2010

And the highest praise from his Champion British trainer

“He’s the best I’ve ever had.” Champion trainer, Richard Hannon Sr

It is always important to the seller/breeder to widen the buying market of resulting progeny to International and not just local buyers. In addition importance is given to keep on top of local and international Racing and Breeding race results and sales results, to ensure accurate and up to date knowledge is considered when deciding on matings for breeding stock in consulting advice, for their own mares or purchases of racing and or breeding stock. The type of the resulting progeny, nick and commercial value and to gain an upgrade/upgrades to the value of the mare/s and their future progeny, breed an athletic, correct type to gain racing results on the track, thus better return, per resulting progeny or and for siblings and the mare/s, is considered extremely important. The value of the family increases exponentially accordingly.

Shuttle stallions and or proven sires, with both own racing success and progeny success are felt specifically necessary options for Maiden mares and the first x3 foals of the mare to establish her, the worth of the progeny and siblings from Day 1 and increase theirs, the dams and future progenies value as well. More interest and importance is generally given in suitability to the Classic Races and other Stallion making/breeding value shaping flat races in UK, IRE and Europe than anywhere else as well, when considering the suitability of Shuttle stallions for the Australasian/South African market over that of the US or Canadian markets.

The value of commercial stallions on offer per breeding season from shuttle to colonial stallions is compared in the decision making process. There is the benefit in the Southern Hemisphere of reviewing progeny’s results gained racing during the Northern Hemisphere Flat Season especially valuable for first season sires in the UK, IRE, Europe and US that are shuttle stallions due to stallion duty on rosters in Australia, towards the end of the Flat season there.

Generally stallion service fees have already been set prior to significant results gained during the Flat Season in UK, IRE and Europe for example, so if the stallion’s progeny soar as a proven sire or first season sire like “Canford Cliff’s” did on the track in UK, IRE and Europe in 2015 for example and his fee remained unchanged/and excellent value, it is a risk lessened and highly commercial exercise to breed to that stallion or him in “Canford” as has been the case. In addition to prove how commercial, broodmares in foal, weanlings and yearlings need to be selling well and or proving themselves at Stakes level on the track as well.

If a sire has all the credentials proven that are being looked for inc. successfully race proven themselves, progeny successfully race proven, thus making the sire highly commercial with more positive likely to come from the progeny on the track and in the sales ring it is a good decision to use them especially for mares yet to establish their progeny results/maiden mares.

The type of horse expected from the resulting foal is good on paper and importantly on type and temperament must be good to exceptional and commercial especially in foretelling the market x2 years on to present and sell, for a profit, the resulting progeny at a yearling sale for example.

“Canford Cliffs – IRE” ticked all these boxes as a suitable sire.

Bear in mind Australia has always had a strong International market to sell its highly regarded, tough, durable racing stock to. Shuttle sire’s progeny from Australia are highly sought after for these attributes being bred here.

If raced here owners from abroad or locally gain super prizemoney and breeders are the envy of the world with each state’s bonus schemes. If taken back overseas be it to Hong Kong for a racing career, back raiding at Royal Ascot in the UK, an icon for the racing world to be represented at, in the UK or Dubai on Dubai World Cup Night, where the highest prizemoney is offered for a race meeting in the world to only the best International competitors or for breeding careers, interest is high in the Australian product and has sustainability as well. Australia is hailed as the country that breeds the toughest horses and best sprinters in the world.

A current falling Australian Dollar and American investment in the breeding industry here, also advocates the strength of the Australian Racing and Breeding Industry as does the new investment.

Mares in foal to “Canford,” yearlings and weanlings by him, have sold at auction, from x3 - 4 times and a lot more above his advertised service fee in both hemispheres. In, Australia for the 2015 breeding season the service fee remained, as it had been for 2014, at AUD$13750.00 inc.gst. This is excellent value especially when one considers despite his being, during the current then European flat racing season as it unfolded, First Season Leading European Sire, which title he also claimed at the end of the season. He did so with gaining the most 2 year old progeny Stakes winners and place getters in IRE, UK and France.

This is therefore an outstanding opportunity to purchase this quality mare “Sierra Leone – GB”, well nicked on pedigree and type to an outstanding young champion in Coolmore’s shuttle stallion “Canford Cliffs – IRE.” If he returns this season or for a few more, before maybe not doing so, as often occurs with Shuttle stallions from Coolmore’s farms overseas, you are unlikely to be able to breed commercial progeny to him at better value or buy them cheaper either as yearlings or Ready To Run horses for example again.

“Helsinge – AUS” the dam of Australian Champion and World’s highest Time form rated Champion mare “Black Caviar – AUS” foaled a filly for her breeder R.Jamieson of Gilgai Farm in VIC on 15/10/15. So illustrious company is joined when purchasing and owning this breeding package and producing a foal to this super sire.

Inglis Broodmare and Weanling Sales - 2014 Sale Overview

The new dates and format of the Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale were due to turn heads and excellent results in 2014 clearly validated the auction’s position as Australia’s headline breeding stock sale………. Weanlings from the first crop of dual hemisphere champion racehorse So You Think were in high demand headed by Lot 119, Lustre Lodge’s colt half-brother to Thousand Guineas winner Irish Lights, which sold to Coolmore Australia for $290,000…… Other first season sires represented included Uncle Mo (sold up to $120,000), Smart Missile (up to $80,000), Canford Cliffs (up to $65,000), Master Of Design (up to $52,000) and Foxwedge (up to $50,000).

Goffs Orby - 2014

This year’s edition of the Goffs Orby 2014 Yearling Sale once again saw the first crop of World Champion Miler Canford Cliffs in huge demand. Over the two days of this year’s Orby Sale 17 members of Canford Cliffs first crop were sold at an average of €99,176 (AUS$143,321). Eight of them made over €100,000. Just as impressive as the prices was the list of purchasers of these yearlings which included BBA Ireland, M V Magnier (2), Dermot Weld, David Wachman, David Redvers, etc. The highlight of the sale for Canford Cliffs was the spirited bidding duel that took place on lot 340 (pictured), a bay colt out of Lulawin, that was eventually knocked down to M V Magnier for €200,000. Lulawin is a young half-sister to the Joint Champion 3YO Miler in Europe in 2007 and St James’s Palace Stakes (Gr1) winner, Excellent Art. This colt was M V’s second Canford Cliffs purchase at the sale having parted with €160,000 for another colt on day one.

Canford Cliff’s Popularity to the Fore at Tatts - 2014 - AU$500,00 Colt

The strong demand for first crop members of World Champion Miler Canford Cliffs has continued at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in Newmarket, England. Two days in to the Book 1 session of Europe’s biggest yearling sale and there have been some wonderful

results for the five time Group One winner.

Topping the bill at 270,000gns (Aus$518,000) was a magnificent bay colt from the well

related young Galileo mare Bright Sapphire. This colt (pictured) was purchased by Amanda

Skiffington who in recent times has purchased the multiple Group One winner Toronado (2013 Sussex Stakes and 2014 Queen Anne Stakes) amongst others as yearlings. MV Magnier made another purchase of a quality Canford Cliffs yearling when parting with 150,000gns (Aus$287,000) for the colt from Group Three winner Welsh Diva and Dermot Farrington also made another Canford Cliffs purchase when prevailing for the filly out of Newmarket Pretty Polly Stakes winner Saphira’s Fire.
