SummaryCollaboration between business partners is a key metric of successful capital projects.

Industry spends billions of dollars each year sharing, assembling and analyzing design information from conception through engi-neering design, construction to ownership, operation and throughout the lifecycle of facilities and equipment. The global market is now demanding unprecedented levels of interoperability between industry software applications to significantly lower costs, save time, achieve compliance and ensure quality. It is vitally important to undertake initiatives that improve interopera bility to accelerate the execution of lifecycle and operational processes, and doing so is often a man datory consideration for becoming a business partner.

Businesses that embrace interoperability can overcome such challenges as:

• Isolated applications and data

• Redundant entry of data and information

• Disconnected applications

• Inaccessible data for decision support and reporting

Successful collaboration is independent of proprietary formats, provides transparency of information and removes any tie-in to proprietary software. This strategy fosters a neutral platform for the review and man-agement of the published design, while still allowing equipment suppliers to retain their proprietary knowledge and authoring system of choice.

Siemens PLM Software fully supports an open strategy that enables organizations to leverage existing investments in technol-ogy while transitions in technology take place to make the organization more effi-cient and productive than ever.

Benefits continued• Neutral-published format

for 3D product definition fosters independence from proprietary formats and software applications

• Allows a 3D product definition to be published throughout the extended enterprise while protecting intellectual property

Features• Supports AVEVA version

11.2 SP0 and above for all geometry types

• Operates either from a standalone GUI or from the command line

• Includes a configuration file for additional settings

• Installation of AVEVA is not required

• Reads exported REVIEW files (.RVM) along with an optional attribute file (.ATT) or directly from the AVEVA database

• Writes JT parts and assemblies

• JT files contain tessellated geometry organized as JT nodes with color and translucency controls

• Holes can optionally be ignored

• Nodes are structured and named according to the equipment and piping structure

• Exports the model origin

The JT Translator for AVEVA generates ISO 14306 JT files AVEVA is a 3D design tool used in the power, process and marine industries. Siemens PLM Software’s JT™ Translator for AVEVA writes ISO 14306 JT files from AVEVA design applications. The trans-lator operates a standalone graphical user interface (GUI) or command line. It reads directly from the AVEVA data-base or from an exported REVIEW file (.RVM) along with an optional attribute file (.ATT) to generate JT parts and assemblies. The JT files contain tessellated geometry organized as JT nodes with attributes. Nodes are struc-tured and named according to the original equipment and piping structure.

ISO 14306 JT and the JT Open program as an interop-erability platformJT is the world’s first ISO stan-dard for lightweight 3D product definition data. JT provides a common 3D lan-guage to facilitate collaboration, visualization and interoperability between product lifecycle management (PLM) software applications. JT serves as a unifying technology for tradi-tional design, manufacturing, supplier collaboration, documentation and data archiving. Any company working with 3D digital data in a heterogeneous

environment requiring interoperability between internal departments or with external suppliers and partners can benefit from the use of JT.

As an ISO standard, JT is the benchmark for openness in the PLM domain, paving the way for virtually any product producer to adopt JT as their published enterprise for-mat for 3D workflows and long-term data retention.

The direction of JT is driven by the JT Open program. The program is open to commer-cial manufacturers and project developers, software vendors, academic institutions and PLM providers. Program members endeavor to champion JT technology, pro-mote its usage and sustain its position as the industry standard for visualization, collaboration and data exchange. System requirementsWindows 7 operating system and 64-bit hardware

* The JT files can be used with Teamcenter® soft-ware, Teamcenter visualization and JT-based PLM and multi-CAD processes that operate from tes-sellated JT files. The translator does not populate the Teamcenter database.
