Following activities are considered for the pilot study.

•Understanding the geographical nature of the project area.•Collection of statistical information about the project area in order to create a common understanding with the partner NGOs about the Project area.• Understanding the climatic conditions of the specific locations in the project area.•Analysing the weather events of the Project area at least for a Hydrological Cycle (27 years).•Understanding the water resources, its nature and its usages in the changing climatic conditions. •Understanding the cropping pattern and its dependence on climate•Understanding the coping mechanism of the farming sector in the context of climate change.•Understanding the fishing sector and how it cope up with the changing climate.•Data Processing and Analysis.•Preparation of Reports.

Information on Climatic Conditions: The project aims to collect the following information in order to understand the climatic change scientifically1. Ambient Temperature (°C)2. Ambient Pressure (milli bars).3. Rainfall (mm)4. Humidity (percentage)5. Wind Speed (km / hr) and Direction6. Solar Radiation (watts / m2)7. Evaporation Rate (mm)8. Potential Evapo-transpiration (mm)9. Soil Moisture Index.10. Sunshine Hours (hrs / day)

Anticipated Outcome of the Project The whole project area will be classified based on the impacts of the global warming as severe, high and moderate and low impacts zones with reference to agriculture, fisheries and the natural disasters. At the end of the data analysis, impacts of the Global Warming on agriculture and fishery will be identified.Livelihood impacts of the global warming on agriculture and fishery will be projected on a chronological basis based on the data analysis.Natural disasters that are likely to be triggered or further aggravated in terms of frequencies and ferocities due to the global warming will be identified and its subsequent impacts on agriculture and fishery will be assessed in terms of the damages they likely to cause.Alternatives to cope up with the global warming effects will be identified and suggested based on locally available resources.General recommendations can be given to the Development Agencies (Government and Non-Government) based on the results of the project on the probable effects of the global warming and the ways to manage the current and future scenario.A general methodology will be evolved on how to handle the locally available natural resources for the better survival without mishandling them (main cause for the problems like the global warming).Proper disaster preparedness and management practices particularly with reference to agriculture and fishery will be given to the inhabitants of the Project area.

Activities so far completed 1. Trainings were organized both for the NGO leaders as well as for the

staff on the impact of global warming on agriculture and fisheries

2. Information related to 9 districts of the project area is collected and shared with the partners.

3. Data related to the cropping pattern of Tamilnadu is collected and analyzed. Based on the analysis GIS maps were prepared and the information was plotted on the maps

4. Capacity development program on GIS was organized to project’s core team

5. A comprehensive check list is prepared to understand impact of global warming on ten major crops cultivated in the project area.

6. A checklist is under preparation to probe the impact of global warming on fisheries
